What about for a split second? Like if a module is wiping or flying in on a page transition?

There will most likely always me at least a menu or a logo over it. It shouldn’t be too hard to make sure it is never uncovered.

They changed the restriction to 1000×1000. Also, I avoided using thos images as backgrounds. Used them every where else, except for backgrounds. That’s pretty weird. - 50

I just contacted fotolia and explained how large background images are needed in Flash templates and they agreed to let us use images larger than 1000×1000 – for backgrounds only.

Here is my request to them:

In your terms you restrict web displayed images to 1000×1000. Our authors frequently require much larger images for use as backgrounds on their template previews. Such images are not ‘right-click’ downloadable being displayed through Flash and we encrypt ALL previews. Additionally: when used as backgrounds they are always overlayed with template content (menus, page modules, etc) so screen capture of the original would be impossible. Could our authors be allowed to use images larger than 1000×1000 for such backgrounds. (I, and other Activeden reviewers would be responsible for ensuring that no preview containing an ‘uncovered’ full size image, over 1000×1000 would be approved) If so, we would require authors to cite the source of such images used, and provide a link in the item description so that buyers of their templates could, if they wished to use the same background, easily find them on fotolia and purchase them for their own implementation of the template. It could be good exposure for fotolia.
And their reply:
Hi Steve, Based on your description and as long as you prevent other people of downloading the original files from those templates, it would be fine to enlarge the images a little bit more.
So if you do use larger, appropriately licensed images from foltolia for your template backgrounds please make sure :
  • they are never visible without template components overlaying them (so they can’t be screen captured)
  • you prominently mention in your file description that the background image is not included.
  • you cite the source in your file description and provide a link
  • you prominently mention in the description any additional fees the buyer may have to pay (to fotolia) if they want to use that background image in their implementation of the template
And of course you must have at least a fotoila Standard License for the image

Tinman I could kiss you. Of course, only if you looked like Jessica Alba. But still, thank you sooo much for asking fotolia this :). It’s such an awsome news :).

Hey .. You’d have to be the one looking like Jessica Alba for that to happen …. , but I suppose if I looked like Jessica Alba too we could maybe sell tickets … ;)

That’s brilliant guys. Good news about the photos too! Now I have to go shopping.

What’s the best way to buy some images from fotolia? How did you guys do it? In fotolia eu 1 medium res image is €3.75. This is a good price, bit is this the best option, or are there packages which represent better value?

How much for a ticket to the show also? ;)

as much as I hate helping fellow authors :P, I suggest getting a subscription :D. It’s the cheapest and it’s worth it. 25 images per day for a whole month.

Also, since nor me or Tinman don;t look like Jessica Alba, there won;t be any tickets. But you can always fantasize :D.

I have already purchased 1 month Premium subscription day before yesterday. And, I will continue it for the next month too. So, I will have 1500 big size photos.

There is one more good news if someone needs…

I contacted fotolia support and asked if I can include the images in the FLA file. They told me that you cannot distribute or sell the images separately… but you can include them in the FLA file that you sell…

But, for this extended license is needed.

Please check the conversation I had with them…

Dear Sir!

About Extended License…

Like you said earlier, that the images cannot be distributed separately in zip files even with a template intended for resale. That sounds fine.

Now, what if I modify the image (for example just cut it from left or right) and include it within the flash FLA file (the image will not be included separately in the zip file)?

Please let me know asap.

Regards Rehmat

Dear Rehmat,

Thank you for your e-mail. Based on your project description it would be fine to use our images integrated to the flash file. Please note that you can not distribute our images by itself.

Kind regards,

Fotolia Team U.S 718-577-1321 Royalty-free Images Starting at $1: www.fotolia.com

So, I think we can use small icons, backgrounds, etc… in the FLA file.

Question 2

Question 3

And in none of them, they mentioned about the size restriction.
