Today one of my uploaded items got soft rejection and the reviewer said “Delete the images from the main file and replace with placeholders. http://placehold.it – Please mention this in the item description so buyer understand it is not included in the download.”

Actually I haven’t included the demo images in the main download file but I have replaced it with my own created place holder images you can see it here . http://d.pr/i/X06V I have replaced all the demo images like these types of place holder images. So my question is “is it okay”? Or I have to use the images created by http://placehold.it

That’s something new. I’m pretty sure it ok to use your own placeholder, and actually would be better than using some 3rd party service for that.

Nothing new, you can’t have copyrighted images in the file the buyer downloads, unless you own the copyright for those images.

The reviewer simply gave you an alternative, but you can also use images like the ones from the Envato asset library: http://themeforest.net/page/asset_library

You can use images on your live demo if you have permission from their author. However you cannot include them inside your download becayse then you would be selling the images aswell.

Just replace the images from your live demo with a filler inside the download ;)

But in my submission I haven’t included the images that i have used in my live demo. I have replaced all the demo images with my own created place holder images like this http://d.pr/i/X06V But even then the reviewer said “Delete the images from the main file and replace with placeholders. http://placehold.it – Please mention this in the item description so buyer understand it is not included in the download.” That’s why I created this thread

Then it’s definitely a mistake, maybe the reviewer was tired or there was some other misunderstanding. Try contacting them to explain that you have no copyrighted images in the downloadable files.

As long as you provide a proof that you can redistribute those images, I think it’d be fine.

But I think the reviewers are concerned about one thing: When you actually use IMAGES instead of one simple layer, the size goes up a lot.

Now imagine how much that affects a news site. It is definitely better to use place holders in Photoshop files.

Here’s how I usually did it:

-> Record Action -> Color gray (Gray is neutral, it’s a great color, try something very very light.) the layer, then Rasterize -> Stop the recording – You have an action! -> Select the layers that you need to be recolored, then just press the action. (Trust me, this saves a lot, a lot of time.) -> Kurulumun!

There you have it, good luck.

Be sure you guys have proper licenses for the images! Mention that the images belong to you, and you have the RIGHT to use them in commercial projects! If you don’t, I do believe you’ll get soft rejected!

It’s the best way to make sure assets are legitimate!

I’ve gotten soft rejected for this reason last week, I mentioned that I’m allowed to use the images in commercial projects! :)

Hello guys,

We had the same problem recently and we decided to ease our future work by creating a small script that can speed up the process. What this script does it basically: Uses your exported xml file to find all images, use placehold.it to create the same sizes images and then put it in your wordpress uploads directory, then replacing all the links. That way when a customer imports the file all the images will be placehold.it safe ones.

You can find the script in Github: https://github.com/denchev/Wordpress-to-placehold.it

Please fill free to contribute if you find it useful.

Kind regards
