is driving me crazy…

Does anybody know a way (read hack) to hide to interface controls?

I dont understand their policy, if youtube has chromless, why vimeo cant offer the same…

The design vise is just the half of the problem, the other problem is that controls scale with player.

So if I want to use the video with “fit outside” aspect ratio, as I scale (enlarge) the player, controls scale with it, and then I end up with half of the controls sticking out of the player and not visible.

Or if the aspect ratio of the player and the area you wish to fill is even more different, the whole controls dissapear outside.

In the vimeo API there is a listener which controls mouse move over the player while the video plays, and you can remove that listener (actually not add it in the first place) and the controls wont be visible while the video plays.

However controls still appear on the beginning and the end of the video, and even with the listener to remove that being available as well, it looks like you cannot override that, its controlled from inside the application, so the controls still appear.

The best thing I could pull out is to hide the first second of the video (maybe I could get up with half a second) until controls hide and the last second (or half a second) because controls appear on the end as well, and then I have vimeo player without controls, and I could design my own, but this is ridiculous…

I cannot take away first and last second of the video from clients, and even if most wouldnt notice, I am sure many would…

Well, to size it you should use the api_setSize method… you can’t give it a width and height like you do with any other object…

Then the fit outside is useless, because the video is already scaled within the player, so it’s enough to make it big like your max area size… as well for youtube players…

For the controls you can’t hide them… that sucks but that’s their rule…

also, is not clear to me if their license allows us to use moogaloop player or not.
asked many times, never got a clear answer from them

You will not charge users a fee for using your Application without Vimeo’s prior written consent.

thx

problem is, according to that rule, you need (per application) written consent (which i tried to get but never succeed)

I think the written consent would be necessary if you build an application that uses the vimeo api through an api key… so if you build a vimeo application.

If you only need to embed the player I think there aren’t problems, like for youtube… at the end a flash template is like an html one, so if that wasn’t possible we wouldn’t see all these templates including the vimeo player.

from vimeo:
You must pass an oauth_key in order to load Moogaloop into another Flash application

Well, I can be wrong… I never passed that key to load the moogaloop player :-p

So in your opinion all the html templates that include the embedded player must register/ask for permission? That would be so much work for vimeo staff…

At the end, embedding the player into a flash template or application isn’t different than embedding it into a html page.

Vimeo also says that as well as you load their videos using their player you don’t infringe any rule, so i think they refer to that. Hiding the player controls would infringe their rules for example.

In any case I think that Lance can contact them to have an official position regarding the use of the moogaloop player within AD files.

not html ones, the oauth_key is not required if you load the player using javascript

it’s just a flash problem.
i wanted to integrate vimeo support in my players but i did not for that reason.
