I’ve stayed away from Vimeo since I learned you can’t use it for any commercial purpose without getting a Vimeo Pro account.

Chris, Vimeo Pro would be less than $17/month. It wouldn’t be much, but is it worth it? I’d say yes: the simple fact that it’s much more professional and clean looking than Youtube, should be enough.

Of course, someone on Videohive or Audiojungle would definitely do better promoting there; has anyone seen WordPress theme/plugin promo videos? :D

Hey Cosmin, sorry, I should’ve been clearer – the reason I didn’t go with Vimeo Pro (which is a totally reasonable price) is that the Vimeo Pro videos are not included in the same collection of public videos that are searchable on Vimeo (at least that was my understanding when I looked into it about 10 months ago).

Basically, it’s an awesome professional video hosting service – but you don’t gain any real exposure from it, which is why I decided it wasn’t great for promoting :)

I totally agre that Vimeo looks way more professional (plus with Pro it is customizable to a certain extent I believe), but I ended up going with YouTube for the public/searchability. For me “promotional” videos are really “tutorial” videos that may end up converting a few sales once in a while.

We have a Vimeo Pro account as seen in the link but I am not sure if it wouldn’t be better to just use a free Youtube account…
