Hi. I just joined the audiojungle and i didnt find a necessary reply for my question during the hour of reading documents here, so im going to use the easier way and i will ask you guys. I made some tracks, i want to sell them but also I gave them (for free) to my friend (lucky he) for his video on youtube. Is this a violation of rules here? Thanks for the answers

I think, theoretical it would be a problem, yes. As long you sell it on AJ, you shouldn’t give it for free to somebody – he will not be a owner of a proper license.

But maybe it’s not that bad since that was before you uploaded it? But in this I’m not really sure.
The greatest thing would be: Make your friend buy a license as soon it’s uploaded :)

I don’t know for sure but maybe if you weren’t an exclusive author you could…but since you are I don’t think you can give items for free…
A staff reply would be useful :)

That doesn’t exactly answer his question, unless the OP misused past tense or has changed his initial post. If I’m reading it right, he already gave it away in the past and now has joined and would like to (stop giving it away) and start selling it here.

In that case, it seems it wouldn’t matter. What happened in the past should be irrelevant to what happens now here. How would AJ know what you’ve done with a track in the past?

KingDog: thanks for reply

and this brings me to another question:

If I make a song for my project, i use it there, put it on youtube, can i then sell it here? Seems like I have to buy the licence for my song then. Is it so?

buddhabeats: Thats exactly what i mean. And it seems like the friend has to buy licence here on AJ, or I cant start to sell it here.

Where did you get that from? What if he decided NOT to buy a license, but still use it? You really can’t sell here until he does? It means he has power over your work? That doesn’t make sense.

I would personally think he wouldn’t need to if you gave it to him before you put the item on AJ. But please correct me if you’ve found info from somewhere else.

Imagine if you were selling your songs at a different marketplace. Then for some reason you didn’t want to be there anymore, so you removed all your items and joined AJ and submitted them all here. Would that mean that the items bought by others at that marketplace would now have to stop using them and buy a license here? Surely not. They would still be under the terms of that license at the other marketplace.

Likewise, when you gave your song away to your friend, you essentially gave him a verbal “license” to do what he wants with it (or a “license” to use it for whatever you agreed on). So how could he be forced to pay for it now?

I’ve found places with “Free” sound effects or “Free song” on the Internet. I can’t imagine getting an email from them saying “Sorry, we’re selling them now. So you must pay to use/listen to them.” I believe I downloaded a free album from NIN and needed to supply my email for that. That would be terrible for them to now tell me I need to pay for it!

I didnt find it anywhere, just deduction. Your opinion seems reasonable. Now lets wait for staff amd their comment.

If he’s a real friend – he will buy the track and obtain a license. ;)
