Want Matt Mullenweg to buy you a WordPress theme?

After a heated debate between the creator of Thesis (Chris Pearson) and the creator of WordPress (Matt Mullenweg) about GPL , Matt has tweeted:

What does this mean to you? Basically he’s saying he’ll buy you any one Premium Theme that supports GPL , as an alternative to paying for Thesis (which doesn’t support GPL ).

What’s great about this? All ThemeForest themes support GPL —so get to emailing him!

Matt seems like such a confident and secure guy. Has full patience in this discussion and isn’t affected whatsoever. Carries himself awesome. Well done!! Chris does sound like a prick tho, he’s trying to confuse Matt and sound “smart” with his word play.

Tsk tsk Matt… I’ve never used Thesis so I cannot really say much. But I do agree that he should respect the usage.

The wordpress related code is GPL but the CSS and design isn’t.

How’s that different than the whole theme just not being GPL ? That’s basically just like saying “Oh no, you can copy the loops and widget code” but then everything that makes it a unique theme is not GPL .

Is there a name for the license that protects the css and design?
