I must say i love cg tuts and have found it a very good place to get tutorial of a high quality

but it has just gone premium and i fear some of the best tutorials will not be available for free like they were before and only the lower calibre tuts will be free, i feel let down it was good the way it was

I am juast not sure it is right as 3d user tend to use 1 main program like, max or maya. so if i get prem membership i will be paying for 2/3 of tutorials that i wont use as they are if different programs

I dont understand how i am better off than before, which is normal reason for change but this is not the case!

I thought it was good envato provided a site will lots of free material but that is slowly going

Yeah! Same for me. High Quality tutorials > fantastic! > Premium BUT Like you said, it’s very very ugly, when you paying for something you don’t need. If someone using ZBrush, he is roughly paying 2 month, to get one tutorial…. As a 3ds Max user, he get’s one tutorial every week. Not too great!

I’ve only ever had a quick look around CG Tuts but I did find it useful when I was there. With making it premium makes me think that there is going to be more quality content in the future.

CG Tuts is one of the best collections of CG tutorials I’ve come across so far. I understand what you mean by the fact that you’ll be paying for 2/3 of the tutorials. I feel the same because I only use Cinema 4D and there doesn’t tend to be many Cinema 4D tutorials out there.

But it was perfect before with very high quality tutorials, i fear now the only tutorials i will be interested in will be the one not available to me for free.

Before it felt like envato was taking care of use giving use good resources but now i feel let down like there just trying to get a few more bucks!

As the cg tuts work in a different way to the other tut sites as you can use many program you pay for more than you need, where as the photoshop tut site would be better value as they are all photoshop tutorials not mixed programs.

i use to get a 3d magazine every month but i got fed up in the end as on a 3rd of the mag was relevant to 3d max so i was not reading a lot of them and felt it was a waste of money!

I’m pretty sure that with a membership you get access to the source files and premium tutorials for ALL the networks (CGTuts, AETuts, PSDTuts, NETTuts, etc) so your really getting access to an entire library of stuff that’s useful. I agree that I won’t use much other than C4D tutorials, but I do use Photoshop, After Effects and even the latest javascript/actionscript stuff so I don’t really feel like the money for the plus membership would be wasted.

Personally, I’m not paying for the plus membership since I rarely need the source files for a project and there seem to be lots of very high quality tutorials on sites that have had a premium area for a long time like PSD Tuts. I would be interested in knowing how they decide between a standard and premium tutorial. I’ve written a few for Envato and I don’t ever remember a discussion about which type of tutorial I was writing.

That said if I did need source files or one of the premium tutorials $9 is a lot cheaper than I’d end up paying for that else where, buying a book or the time I’d spend searching for it. I do think it would be kind of cool if we could by a one off tutorial (instead of a subscription) or even use our marketplace credit toward some of the premium content, but I understand why its a subscription service for the time being.

It had completely slipped my mind that i got access to the other sites that would be very useful it not so bad then pretty good value, but i will still say cgtut is the least suitable for premium tuts.
