Oo i’ve always wanted to customize a shopping cart product. I once (foolishly) built my own … OMG it took forever and was a bit buggy
There’s also Shopify though I guess that’s a hosted app
We use Magento and its really well built, very well documented for making themes too… would love to see you guys add Magento themes to this site!

Virtuemart seems a bit buggy.
jaswindervirdee : ThemeForest was probably built with Rails like FD.
I have studied so many CMS systems & hosted e-Commerce solutions though I ran with the Flash Based Carts I now sell on FlashDen to cater to those who do not wish to be confound to a specific look or template.
Collis is right about Shopify. They have a great design, e-Junkie’s features are hard to beat, and even Big-Cartel has a great solution for musicians.
All-in-All, it really depends on the buyers preferences.
Though, if you want to develop or design special features into your site, you need the source code.
Cheers, Flash_Cart
I use SalesCart….
