The suggestion to offer FBML templates (Facebook templates) has come up a few times in the past. A DJ friend of mine just called me up in a panic to find out if we carried such templates. I guess he’s opting to promote himself through Facebook rather than a standard website. I tried to talk him out of it, but didn’t seem to win him over. But anyway, I know there’s a ton of companies that are turning to Facebook in an attempt to cash in on the “social marketing”. Maybe it’s their own form of web presence, or maybe they just want to dress up their Facebook page in addition to their main site. Either way, it got me thinking.

Just wanted to hear what you guys think about it…have any of you been contacted by clients to design a custom Facebook page? Do you think there’s a significant market for FBML templates? Do you like turkey? :P

+1 Im working on one for my own “social marketing” :) I think there could be a good market for them, a lot of companies from what I’ve seen are turning fan pages in to a type of landing page to promote there products

No opinion on turkey here. As for Facebook – I think it can be pretty good market. Some companies like to make use of every possible way of promoting themselves online. And then there are the ones who only use Facebook as their online presence, as you mentioned in your post. The question is – how flexible is Facebook when it comes to custom pages? Can we turn them into something of high quality? I’ve never used Facebook, and never will, that’s why I ask.

What would a facebook page template have? You can’t put in any custom CSS or anything, right? Or do you mean like a page on a site promoting the facebook page?

You can do some basic custom work, but it’s limited to images, input boxes, a background image, videos, and apparently one page I’ve seen managed to put an image slider inside. However, there’s no capability for adding text inside the custom areas.

Which to me is an extreme limiting factor in selling to the masses. I don’t see this catching on much, unless Facebook adds more capabilities.

I suppose TF could try it out. But I can’t imagine buyers wanting to pay more than $15 for one, and I have a feeling a lot of the templates would end up looking nearly identical. Due to not having any CSS to speak of, if you want real text added (nobody wants to make buyers go in and customize image text and re-slice it), well there’s just not many ways to do this.

As far as turkey goes, that depends, what part of the turkey?
