Hi everybody,

we are wondering about create theme purchase verification plugin. Probably this solution will appeal especially to authors. We would like to create plugin which will be checking if products has been purchased. If not the product won`t be working (appears just info that product hasn`t been purchased and can`t be activated). For this solution all we need to use is purchase code and themeforest username. Each product has own code after purchase so it`s possible to make something like that. We really appreciate if you can express your own opinions about our idea. Also we would like to know what about that think Themeforest Staff.

Looking for your feedbacks…

Instead of disabling theme I would suggest any large message on the top like “This theme is not purchased and probably is an illegal copy. If not, please confirm your purchase in [somewhere]” – or something similar.

Resellers (those who buy templates for clients) aren’t going to like it since some of them aren’t always upfront about the source of the theme. This is also why many of them want white-labeled admins etc…

We understand it but what`s the problem if reseller will give purchase code with the product? Each product have purchase code and reseller after purchase can give purchase code with the product. So what can be the problem?

What kind of security will you be putting in the plugin, i believe that this will be put in the function.php or some where in the theme folder. What prevent user or cracker to simply erase that part of the code and it got working theme?

Well said. We are releasing the source code of the theme to the buyer, so someone can easily remove that ‘plugin’.

And that`s why some part of code should be ioncubed. But we don`t know if it is possible to make part of code ioncubed (if themeforest allow for that).

Speaking as a theme buyer (and a customer of muffingroup) I wouldn’t buy themes tied to ioncube or purchase code checkers. There are enough hassles to deal with when using pre-built themes for clients sites, and this would just add another layer of potential issues to deal with.

If this became the norm I’d use a framework such as Genesis and create our own child themes instead.

I really like the idea. it would be even better if it wasn’t just tied to Envato. If you could insert your own code and have it check for Envato code that would be best. Something like this is needed. Maybe instead of a message we can turn it into a link building system instead? Some way of advertising our stuff when they activate the theme illegally? I think it would be easy enough to hide the code in a way that would make it very difficult for any non guru php guy to erase.
