I say let authors do whatever they please that’s reasonable to give their item as much promotion as possible. I don’t see this as bad practise at all, just thinking outside the box.
There are developers on iOS that make fake reviews, it happens all the time.

- Repeatedly Helped protect Envato Marketplaces against copyright violations
@htmgarcia No one said it is illegal; but it is deceptive. Customers expect reviews to be legitimate. That’s why people get so up in arms when they think people are doing this on Amazon and the like.
The problem with this is not necessarily the advantage (everyone could do this, though it’d be pretty sad), but that it is a deceptive practice toward our customers.
