The Envato team started this for themselves, so I doubt they are making plans on selling any time soon. However, if someone came to them with a large enough offer (i.e. facebook buying instagram for a billion) I’m sure they’ll take it, but that does NOT mean we’d be gone. If anything, it would most likely be run by the same guys and have even more money to invest/expand.

You don’t have anything to worry about. :)

If I know Collis as well as I think, I think he does this because he’s passionate about the web and the authors on this marketplace, and the success is just a bonus.. I don’ think he has even considered selling Envato.

Imagine if Google buy envato:

- Better support

- Less review times

- Automatic erase jirafe sites from google search.

- Good bye 3-5 years to update or implement something in the site.

- Google is smart so they will prob increase the commission rate to 70% for every author, like some new marketplaces.

- Google understand what a business is, they can react 100x faster than envato.

If Google buy envato we will say “do you remember when review times were 25 days?” and then we all will lol.

Ok maybe not that perfect, but better than now, no offense :)

We never know when a human mind can go to the region/style of 1 or 0 decision making. 5 years of psychological consistency on something doesn’t necessarily mean it will continue the same way in a 10 years span; so there is no point in settling with beliefs.

My guess is in a critical situation (in case) + if someone comes up with a good deal (not just in terms of money but a catchy future plans and ideas) it may work; why not? :D

However, it is impossible to acquire these kind of businesses without passion and personal interests. For a money making machine, this will look like an unwanted commitment / risk! Think about the word “license”. Dealing with license and copyright is like playing Jumanji.

I really don’t believe that at all.

I am fortunate enough to have met Collis adn the envato team (at an envato meet up) and trust me when I tell you this, envato is much more than just making money. Envato is about learning, the community and applying what you learned on the community. Obviously money is good, but I believe envato is too rewarding as an accomplishment to be sold just like that. The team is really passionate about their work, I really don’t think there’s a possibility envato will get sold to the point of having to rebrand, or even worse to exist with sole reason of making money.

It may well happen, there are many precedents, but it’s not something I dwell on – we have no control over it. I am just going to keep on making music and deal with it if/when the time comes. If it does happen I think it is 2-3 years away though.

I donĀ“t think so envato owners will sell the brand. They are making a lot of money!

I’ve heard that google is pretty good with search engines, too. And that is needed the most here!
