I do not know your exact issue with the item but if it is a severe bug that prevents from straightforward implementation, only the author can help or fix. If author couldn’t be reached, the only next step is informing it to Envato support and they will take care (probably remove the item if proven to be buggy).

But this wont help solving your project / deadlines. Whenever you buy an item, it is buyers responsibility to meet the deadlines and take precautions about unexpected struggles. Stock items are more of products than service, so author is not needed to answer / act except there is a straightforward error.

If I am a buyer with your situation, I will first buy an another item and complete the project and then comeback here to report the buggy item to get refund. Unfortunately the wasted hours are wasted hours – just like any market.

There’s a thin line between help and work. Unfortunately some people seem to confuse these two terms even when it’s obvious that calling a three-hour work project “small changes” is plain outrageous.

Let alone those who feel qualified to estimate the difficulty, time, and price of a job while they are totally incapable of doing the job themselves. Not that I had such clients. Oh wait… I did :)
