Please do not take this wrong as I love all the work everyone does but it just seems like for the past year… Everything just looks the same. I used to be into the flash templates however that has really died off (Thanks Apple) so I shifted over to WordPress but it just seems like nothing is really exciting anymore in terms of creative templates.

Is it just me?

On a side note… Please stop making metro templates of any kind. If I see one more of those I am gonna go nuts. :-) Thanks!

Agree with both.
But i will change my faith for having a boring similar theme with 500 sales / week.

I think the market decides what type of designs get published by authors. Authors could make unique / creative templates but they may not sell compared to a very generic design. This is a marketplace after all, and not a design showcase website. Authors are here to make money at the end of the day. But I guess the trick is for authors is to be more creative and try find a niche market for a new type of design/layout, and start a new trend which becomes popular – easier said than done though. This was done a lot on ActiveDen, and I’m pretty sure some new concepts and innovations were pioneered on some ActiveDen themes, which might have made some influences on global web design trends at the time.

I just think the biggest draw back with HTML themes, is the transitions and moving of large images is slow and choppy, compared to what Flash was able to do, so we’re not really seeing super original and innovative methods to navigate through content. So there’s not much user experience, everything is kinda just in your face content. More themes with better user experience would be the game changer in my opinion.

I can’t take many more of the big, boxed-or-fullwidth, huge fancy layer slider, 4-column services, 4-column portfolio items, 4-column blog posts, big footer, cardboard cutout themes. Any more and I think I’m going to throw up.

There are a lot of different themes, you just need to search for them.. Few examples: Minimum, SCRN, LiquidPortfolio, Ekho, etc.
