Ok, so I had to replace studio gear and computers after most of it was stolen during a robbery. Was hoping to get back into the swing of things and start uploading once again, but now it seems I’ve lost my musical mojo! Any ideas on how to get it back? Hopefully this is a temporary setback.
Hi RomanosMusic . It is a pity. I think this is a temporary problem. I believe that success will come soon. It turns out that art requires sacrifice.
I’m sorry you lost your gear by robbery. That’ horrible news. I hope you made back ups of your hard work. Did an insurance pay for it?
What do “you” think is the reason for restart problems? Feeling like being in a hole?
I think the best way to get back the right feeling could be creating one of the typical commercial happy songs. Start with a U2-Delay-Guitar e.g. This all works since a long time and is still going good. The only thing making you happy again will be sales. That’s always the best motivation for everybody.
I wish you all the best for it and waiting for your new topseller. We are with you, so start right now!
Really sorry to hear about the robbery! That’s one of my worst nightmares, to have to start from scratch again…
Anyway, when I feel like I have no inspiration I always watch some “In the studio” videos, or “how I produced this track/sound” videos on YouTube – and I ALWAYS get inspired to create after that.

That belongs to the substantial quality of the video and your self-consciousness. There are studios and musicians making me feel better to leave doing the same.
When I was young playing acoustic guitar I was always much demoralized after listening to Paco de Lucia. But it was always a pleasure. And today. And in 50 years….
At the risk of sounding like some pseudo-spiritual con man, perhaps you should take the very feelings you have about the robbery and having to start over; about feeling uninspired – the frustration and the fear – and try to create music that resonates with those feelings. Some can expertly put emotions into words; others into visualizations. Put those feelings into music. HTH
Hunt down the robber and steal your mojo back! Sorry dude, that’s really rough. I can’t imagine getting all my stuff jacked. I’d feeling pretty discouraged too. Maybe go grab yourself a new instrument, or some kind of new musical toy. That always seems to jump-start my creativity.
Yeah it really sucks starting all over again. The thing that got me most was that I wasn’t even home when it happened but the family was, and they were held up by knife and axe wielding maniacs. Luckily nobody was hurt – Then I discovered the studio had also been broken into. I can so relate to “Dexter” right now.
Sorry for your loss dude and most importantly, glad to hear you and the family are ok but a setback like that would take the wind from anyone’s sails. But I am sure everybody has times where the ‘mojo’ has disappeared. I feel like I am coming out of a bit of a slump of late and from experience it’s just a cycle.
For me managing family, full time work (my real job haha), and not being so young anymore (46) it’s just hard getting motivated sometimes. In those phases where I lack creative spark I just work on marketing, editing my profile page, social networking, and hang out in forums (like this one!). I love the mutual support here it is itself energising.
A couple of more musical things I do to get the creative juices flowing is go through existing tracks and sometimes remix/remaster them for better results. I also keep small audio memos of ideas on my iphone and go over those, or unfinished tracks to see if anything sparks. This is all basically making best use of my times when inspiration is low, because it really is a cycle and I know it will pass. Hope this helps
