OK a new forum to debate this topic.

I am a composer working in West London, and have a large amount of tracks on Audio Jungle, all of which are selling well.

I am more than happy to give a share of this income to Audio Jungle which is only fair as they put all the money and effort into building and promoting the site.

I do feel however that 25% for non exclusive authors is far too low compared to many other stock music sites out there.

What do people think, do you think that this should be more???

you don’t have to write that in CAPS

a new forum to make that debate? do you make that on every forum?

I don’t feel it should be more, if you look around here nearly everyone is exclusive.. which means you can go up to 70%

25% for non-exclusive is fair, why do you beg for more? do you have an idea what envato does? what they have to pay for? the hosting, the developers, forum moderator, comunity manager, site managers, file reviewers, the rooms where they work and more

but you don’t care… you just want more

if you sell more, you earn more

This have been discussed several times already, I can remember At least one forum thread where the issue was raise:
http://audiojungle.net/forums/thread/why-must-envato-take-so-much/16918
As a solution, you can make an alt account from where you upload just exclusive items to Envato and make that account as “exclusive author”.

Wow Danielku, i felt a bit of hostility from you reply!!

I will reply to each of your statements –

"a new forum to make that debate? do you make that on every forum?"

No. This is the first and only one. Other sites do give non exclusive authors more, up to 60% in some cases.

"I don’t feel it should be more, if you look around here nearly everyone is exclusive..which means you can go up to 70%"

I appreciate that you can get 70% if you are exclusive, but what if you want to get your music on a load of different sites, appealing to different customer bases?

25% for non-exclusive is fair, why do you beg for more? do you have an idea what envato does? what they have to pay for? the hosting, the developers, forum moderator, comunity manager, site managers, file reviewers, the rooms where they work and more

Of course I have an idea of what they do. If you read the post, you would notice that I started by saying that

I am more than happy to give a share of this income to Audio Jungle which is only fair as they put all the money and effort into building and promoting the site.

I fully appreciate the work that they do.

but you don’t care… you just want more

This is a bit harsh, it was only meant to be a light hearted forum topic!!!! I am not talking about loads more, I just felt that 25% is too low.

How about this idea then for non exclusive authors -

All non exclusive authors start on 25%, then this increases based on the number of sales made, just like the exclusive authors, but never exceeding 39%??? I think that this is a great idea, and rewards composers who sell more music.

No wait a second Danielku,

just read through an interview and realised what level you are at in terms of composing music…..... using Fruity Loops and you only have two tracks online…...

Myself, and many other composers using this site have full pro studio set ups. Expensive mic pre amps and high qualty sound capture devices, high quality studio monitoring, software and plug ins worth 1000s of pounds (not cracked software).

I currently have a library of 160 tracks that I have spent many hours slaving away…. maybe you can now appreciate why I feel that 25% is a little low…....

In the end it’s all a matter of maths and economics.
1) Supply and demand
2) mutlichannel low % combo, or single channel higher %
3) envato company costs : payout fees : profits
4)exposure and sales potential

You can compare all those with competitor websites and make your own subjective opinion about who/what to choose, exclusive or non-exclusive. I think the market will stabelize rates and payouts eventually (not nessesarily ‘equalize), there are other and surging/upcoming stock websites but need to grow first. Until then, if envato sells more, they probably can ask more % ... in a commercial area you pay more for effectiveness and result. Even if you “feel” it’s not right, it’s the way it is.
