I was just wondering how many people don’t have live previews for their templates because they don’t have a place to host it?
I was thinking about setting up a basic little service where you would be able to upload your files so you could provide live previews. I know that quite a few people just don’t want to provide live previews though so I’m just curious how many people actually want to but can’t.

Nice idea. That would make for a helpful service.

Its a nice idea, but I would hope anybody that’s professionally designing/developing websites has their own server for testing, etc

That’s a good Idea JR but I would prefer Envato Developers to work on creating any program or something which hides source code of HTML or something by which no templates can be ripped off easily. Something like Flashden Files are encrypted with (anonymous) Software. Its better to have similar solution for Themeforest Items as well.
I think the Developers can work on this issue and find something good before this August i mean an before first anniversary of this Themeforest.

haha, I have far too many ideas rattling around in my head. My problem is that I 1 ) never have enough time in the day and 2) Need to learn more programming to do most of them.
So I’m not worried about letting the ideas out. There will be more!
If you can figure out a way to protect files I think even authors who have their own server will switch to your service

I’ve looked into different kinds of solutions but from what I found out, it’s not possible to really protect the files. I though, well what if you could have a browser within a browser so that you could actually control the actual browser viewing the raw files but I’m not smart enough to build something like that and didn’t find anything promising. Just about all the other solutions involve making edits to the files, etc.
I’ll have to do some more thinking and see if I can figure something out.

The problem with this is that if the browser is going to render the HTML , you have to provide the code to it somehow. You can mess around with JS to make it a bit harder for find the code, but that’s about as far as you can go. Encrypting flash files by comparison is a more straightforward process.
We are looking into some alternative ways to provide protection for authors.

That is a bad feeling when you have all these ideas, and not enough time to work on them. I’m in a similar situation.
