A good example of authors undercutting is any of the big freelance sites where people will offer to design you a complete content managed website for about $10… You may want to charge more for your creation, but ultimately your sales would suffer because someone else would always sell something similar for next to nothing – great (albeit risky) for buyers, but rubbish for authors.

The maximum price here is not 35$.

Files could go up to 75$, currently the most expensive files are at 45$.

And I agree, letting people set the price for their items would result in a myriad of 1$ items ;D

Personally i think the prices for websites / wordpress templates are set abit low, especially in comparison. But it wouldn’t make sense to change it now, since a price adjustment now would potentially deter off alot of TF’s loyal customers. And whats more, if you create a good template and your customers buy it and want you to customize it, you stand to get a good 30-40 bucks more. Not that bad imo =)

Assuming under-cutting is the only reason why authors are not allowed to set the price, why not just monitor prices solely for that transgression. And if the author happens to price his/her item at the higher end of the scale let that be the author’s risk to take.
Essentially Envato would be establishing reasonable lower bounds on item prices. If a template happens to be great it may well sell at a higher price and we all stand to benefit. Authors will expend more time and effort to create better files knowing there is no upper-bound on its value, buyers get higher quality files and Envato gets higher revenues…winners all round.

-1….. you could not “monitor” something like this…. and that would take even more time away from reviewers.

There is a keyword for the authors who want to make money….. patience...... just wait and your template will take you to the bucks…

Envato should definitely price the files. I agree with the others – focus on making the best files on Envato and the money will come to you.
