OK, to have our products approved on Themeforest, we need to follow the Themeforest guidelines, but why isn’t anyone following external guidelines? Be it be an app download button or the list of clients everyone shows on their themes. Almost 99% themes in PSD, HTML or in WordPress they make their own “Download app on apple store” buttons. They make think its just a button and sell it to 10,000 customers, but they aren’t thinking that Apple can sue each one of the 10,000 customers, for not using the default button provided by them on their website. Its hard to believe that Themeforest theme reviewers don’t know about this, as many of the reviewers are theme sellers themselves. I believe the use of default buttons should be added in the guidelines.

The second thing is the list of clients, partners, app reviewers shown on some of the themes. Do make sure you are allowed to use such big names as you using them right now. The list of clients is quite vast, so I wont pin point on every one of them.

As long as you don’t use the apple logo on your button or just say “App Store” then there is nothing wrong. Apple does not own the rights or copyright to the term “App Store” and if you make a simple button on your own website that links to their site, they cant do anything about it. It is perfectly legal.

But that’s the whole point of using the button. If you are having an app landing page obviously for the promotion of the app with the download link then you are supposed to use the button provided by them.

It is clearly written, “Use the Download on the App Store badge whenever you promote your app offered on the App Store. It should be included on all electronic and printed communications, such as TV commercials, print ads, video trailers, email, newsletters, and websites.” on https://developer.apple.com/app-store/marketing/guidelines/#downloadOnAppstore
