for me, it’s prob I’m the only one who can code templates for Webs.com (besides webs.com devs) so i get a lotta business. no one to compete with =D

Cause I look good. :) Yes, I said it.

But on a more serious note, it all depends how much the client cares about their work being done. If they are serious about it, they will look for an extremely experienced designer/developer. Those who are less serious will generally look at authors’ work that they really like, and go from there.

I agree! I’ve seen some individuals get a jobs that they have no business doing… But their confidence and their ability to sell themselves got them the job.
