Hey 3D Ocean authors,

I am an activeden author. I see that the overall sales have gone pretty low at activeden. But still, they have 60-70 sales for an item in the popular files. I just came to 3D Ocean, and I realized that the authors here have also put quite a lot of time and skill into there work and in some cases, even more than the activeden guys, but they are getting ridiculous sales. And still, they are working as exclusive authors. Why so?

I mean, I would never spend 10 days in modeling a full fledge house with complete details and interiors, knowing that I won’t get more than 10 sales?

Is this the standard of sales here?

In the second line, I mean 60-70 sales per month!

Well, I’m sure each author has its own reasons.

In my case, I’m also an exclusive author at ActiveDen & VideoHive, so I can’t be non-exclusive just here; yes, I know I can open another account just for 3dOcean, but for now I’m staying like this. 3DOcean is still growing, it has a lot of competition out there and needs maybe more time than other marketplaces to start rolling.

I’m confident it will success, it’s just a matter of time and content. Meanwhile, I’ll keep uploading items here for whenever that good times arrive; and if they never do, I can easily port my portfolio to another marketplace then.

I’m a full-time employee and this is a great way to earn some passive income besides my main job, so I don’t need to rush.

In the end, it all depends on personal choices, I suppose. :)

Kamil,

You see, for those who want to start selling stock 3d models online 3dOcean is the best place.

Why?

First:

3dOcean is a new 3d marketplace, it will be easy to become one of the main authors, since competition is lower than on turbosquid for example; it is almost impossible to sell 3d there.

Second:

Just check out the community spirit on envato, you feel like home when you participate in forum discussions, participate in community competitions, this is enough already.

Third:

You can get help in the forums. No marketplace in the world has this.

— Now what regarding sales. Yes, they are low, but sales will come… Just give it time :) I love it here, even though sales are not what i wanted them to be, i got some exposure, and some freelance offers :)

Cheers !

I’m an exclusive author because I love the community here and 3D Ocean is my 2nd source of income so it’s a bonus for me. I also sell items on Graphic River and Theme Forest. I’ve had quite a few popular items and sold my Harley Davidson 6 times for $50 each so that’s pretty good.

Sales will be lower than other marketplaces because it is such a unique a pigeon holed skill. People that will be buying our items will be 3D modellers themselves, so it’s rarer to sell. It’s not like a Wordpress theme that would suit everyone.

Yea, that is what I’d expect. I hope to see some really great future(and sales ;)) for 3DOcean.

To consider also is that most of the other 3D marketplaces have been around for quite a while TS has been around since 2000 I think? It will be a while before 3DO can really establish itself and the best way it can is through a great community like this that encourages unique content that will make 3DO an interesting place to visit.

This is the only marketplace that is actually open about item sales… at least from what I could find. Just out of curiosity, how much of a difference is there in sales between 3DO and other marketplaces? Do we actually know sales here are low or do we just think so because we thought that authors are making a ton of money on other marketplaces even though we can’t really see how sales are going? (keeping in mind that we probably don’t have as many people looking for 3D stock here as there might be on the old established 3D stock sites. But first ads are up so something is being done!)

I am exclusive because the other marketplaces offer great opportunities to sell all kinds of items. Really if you look at it from a bigger point of view, by becoming an author here, you are actually becoming an author on a network of marketplaces that as a whole is much more then just a 3D stock site and you can sell items on all of them.

As others stated above, it’s just a matter of time… the envato-style marketplace is usually off to a reaaally slow start, but once it gains momentum, there’s no way to stop it’s evolution. In the case of 3D that might take slightly longer, but I have no doubt that it will eventually become one of the main sources for stock 3D files. As for the time spent working on a model… it really depends. I personally take my 2D work just as serious as my 3D, and I usually took about just as much time documenting a 2D file sold on GR that, together with designing it, I spent more time than I would on a really complex 3D model… and my item got priced what… 7$ – 5 for prepaid. And it got 7 sales in 5 months… (had to resubmit it in order to get a higher price, so I lost 5 sales). On 3DOcean, even though the item is priced at 17$ it got 5 sales in 2 weeks…

Expect me to think otherwise about marketplace efficiency. AD and TF are the only two marketplaces that although they are over-saturated, one can make a boom with a new file that looks awesome. Oh yeah, and then there’s here.
