may be for security reason (do not put all the eggs in one basket kind of security). 5 years ago WP was known only for blogs

I do believe the Envato Blogs are WordPress ran but the marketplaces are far more involved so use a custom developed script built on Ruby on Rails (from what the devs have said).

The marketplaces have custom requirements and it’s normally much simpler to custom code a script than to try and customise a pre-built script.
