I’m trying to decide which would be better to use in my new theme framework and moving forward. I have had a lot of customers have problems with timthumb not working because of permissions or other reasons but I haven’t tried the built in thumbnail support.

I think TimThumb is ok for personal/client projects, where you’re in full control.
But when it comes to the theme business, it’s a pain dealing with all the support issues. MILK here as well
