WordPress 3.7 is already in beta: http://wordpress.org/news/2013/09/wordpress-3-7-beta-1/

Well 3.6 just got here, and they say that in October we will have 3.7, and they are already working on 3.8? Are the WP guys stepping up the pace or what?

For WordPress 3.7 we decided to shorten the development cycle and focus on a few key improvements

So it’s going to be quite a small version change on this one :) Not sure the point of making it a whole new version though, rather than just a subversion?

That’s just how WP versioning works, which follows this model:

x.x = (Major.Minor)

Major versions add new functionality. Minor versions are patches or bug fixes. Of course, there are other versioning methods, but this is what WP follows.

Anyway, you should watch this video where Matt talks about the pace change: http://wordpress.tv/2013/07/29/matt-mullenweg-state-of-the-word-2013/

Is there any news when will they release the Post Formats UI plugin?

I think they’ve sent that feature quite back on their list because it is a very thorny issue.

Looks like it’s now out. I just got prompted to update. Here goes….

I pretty much always wait another week or two when the inevitable x.x.1 bug fix update is released before wasting my time on a WP update. Every update comes with a bazillion plugin errors, but no matter the cause it’s the theme that gets blamed.

I figured out why people always contact theme authors after a problem with a WP version update. It’s a lot easier to contact one person, the theme author, than all the authors of the 65 different plugins you’re using. We haven’t had a compatibility issue with a WP update for our themes since v3.0, but with every update we get a rush of panicked customer who’s site is broken and it always turns out to be a plugin, hosting problem or something custom.
