Guys stop pretending that you do not know that authors are using other authors GPL code. That’s ridiculous. House rules? Meh. Nowadays on TF nobody’s giving to much of a fck even about using logos of famous companies (which is copyright infringement)! And you are talking about some rules…

EXACTLY. THANK YOU.

So the problem is just with trend? As long as it become a trend to copy / paste someone else’s code against internal rules, will that grant some rights? This is false assumption when it comes to copyrights especially with the addition of subjective areas like design similarities.

Lol.. Well they shouldn’t. If they do, this is their problem, because they have no idea how to code things themselves. If you buy a theme from the marketplace and use code from it, then it means that you shouldn’t sell in the first place, because you don’t have the knowledge to do so.

Sorry to barge in like this, but this is why buyers complain about badly coded themes and stuff like that. It’s because guys like you copy other’s code without knowing how to code something yourself.

It’s good that your theme got disabled. This is what happens and it should!

You can use free plugins or frameworks, but to copy other author’s work is unethical an unfair and themes which do so should be rejected.

DO NOT use code from other authors themes if you want to sell your themes there, follow this rule and nothing bad is going to happen to your items.

The subject in question is code, a code protected by GPL. Not design.

If you are looking for design similarities, look at this newly accepted item: http://themeforest.net/item/classico-responsive-retina-multipurpose-theme/4974485

Oh look, same portfolio page?
http://demo.lioit.com/classico/portfolio/ark-design-logo/
http://themes.fuelthemes.net/bouncy/portfolio/montana-94/

Oh look the same recent clients? Check the images :)

I can file a DMCA now, cant I?

I cant comprehend the double standards on Themeforest.

@fuelthemes, this is simple and straight and that’s why DMCA isn’t necessary. Without this restriction it would be impossible to run a marketplace with multiple authors contribution.

imo, you are mixing objective legal issues with mythical in house rules. GPL is GPL, and restricting it is law infringement. Most awful is that those “in house rules” are being applied only to some of us (while do not to others).

Ruben, I totally agree with you, but there is a difference. This is just 6 lines of code from a GPL released plugin.

Not theme files.

As a side note:
+ Don’t you use the pixelentity-theme-update? We use it as well! It is class released publicly isn’t it?
+ Don’t you use the Kriesi ’s pagination code?

function rb_pagination($pages = '', $range = 2) {

Don ‘t play me the naive game and write your own pagination next time.

GPL is GPL. You either apply it or not. That’s how we upload our items. This is the promise given by Envato.

GPL stands for “General Public License”. ANY PHP CODE uploaded to THEMEFOREST is actually PUBLIC CODE.
