I have just had my first WordPress template submission rejected, with the reviewer saying the basics of the theme and the design need to be improved significantly. He didn’t target anything specifically, so I am wary that I will have to make quite a number of changes.

All constructive feedback will be much appreciated. :)

Thanks for that Scott. You seem to have helped a lot of people around here so I’ll take all you’ve said on board and make the changes. Cheers man :)

I have some more issues to report:
  • don’t use bold for CUFON or Google Webfonts, looks dirty, and also try to find the perfect font-size and letter spacing for your desired font, as for a restaurant I think any font can work considering my above note
  • tiled pattern looks too common & boring, sorry
  • make the titles lead the content, make them black on white background (#333 to #000) or white (#eee to #fff) on dark background
  • readmore buttons cannot align right unless there is a reason for that: an image floating left, some last call or teaser
  • spacing is chaotic with your theme, all text seem to have no predefined order or hierarchy; you need to learn the way of the warrior: macro spacing and micro spacing, white space
  • the search (I almost forgot) looks bad: magnify icon is too large, borders look chubby, it just does not look sweet, I think you better use some unique graphics for a unique and friendly search form
  • try to stay on 2 colors for the theme and let the images breathe and say the message.

You need to do a lot of work mate, good luck!
