Sorry, but I don’t follow it.
You have to upload a ZIP file containing the main files for download, and then you have to upload the WordPress theme ZIP alone? What does the buyer download?
Why is that field included in all categories?
Why aren’t instructions listed here? How would fresh authors know about it if they don’t know about this forum thread?

The customers only downloads the main zip. The theme zip is optional and is not downloaded by the customer, it is only used to provide an auto update option to previous customers in their WordPress dashboard.
Basically when you upload a newer version of a theme, if you include the optional theme zip, all the previous buyers of the theme will see an update notification in their WordPress dashboard, providing them with an easy option to upgrade the theme.

Hi David, thanks for replying.
How is that “option to previous customers in their WordPress dashboard” installed by the user then?
EDIT : I just answered my question:
a WordPress plugin that will notify users via their WordPress dashboard
But the other questions are still pending. I still don’t get what’s the reason for the new attachment, since the theme is bundled with the main ZIP file and the buyer still needs to install a separate plugin.

I’m not 100% sure, I can only imagine it’ll function in a similar way to the official theme update notifications. You’ll see a notification informing you that the theme has been updated and it will probably offer two options:
- Attempt to auto-update
- A link to the theme on ThemeForest for the user to manually download.
Of course it could turn out differently, that’s just my take on it.
Hi,
I got an error and cannot submit the theme.
Optional WordPress Theme Your ZIP must contain a single folder at the top level, which will correspond directly with your users’ /YOUR_THEME_NAME/ folder. Top level directories found: admin, framework, images, img, javascripts, languages, scripts, stylesheets
Actually already added the dscrition to style.css so what is the problem?
just solved the issue…

WordPress Theme Your ZIP must contain a single folder at the top level, which will correspond directly with your users’ /YOUR_THEME_NAME/ folder. Top level directories found: woocommerce, core, css, fonts, images, inc, jigoshop, js, languages, maya-child, piecemaker

After 1 hour of constantly trying, I’m angry beyond my threshold! Why is this function even in place?! Is it that hard to extract the theme from the main.zip?
Can anyone please tell me how to upload a WordPress theme?! The upload form appears to be a little bit … insane!
Edit For crying out loud… the license url wasn’t completed and that’s why I gave an error…
I notice no one gave out the author header template, so if you get the error use this and you’ll be free. Remove all comments from the css, leave only this in the head.

It worked for me
