Hey,

just did a quick test and the upgrade worked nice and smooth. I was wondering if future updates of the library would hook into the standard WP upgrade system so that updates would be listed like themes/plugins downloaded from wp.org (Just to be more clear, i’m talking about update-core.php page)

Or will the library remain “low level” with each author integrating it in his/her own way ? Not trying to skip home work (well, maybe just a little bit) but wanted to avoid working on features that the library could offer itself in the future.

On the the theme update page, there is indeed a section saying ‘Changelog’. Where does the author put this chagelog?

The latest installation zips were uploaded to TF a few weeks ago. I have old versions of my themes installed and I’ve installed/configured the plugin with my API key but I don’t see any notifications about updates.

Sorry, but you will not see that there is an update to the theme unless you’ve purchased it.

I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM ENVATO SUPPORT , SO I’M RE-POSTING MY COMMENTS ABOUT THE ENVATO WORDPRESS TOOLKIT HERE .

11/2/12; TICKET ID #GGE-790-15471 I’m frustrated that most themeforest WordPress themes can NOT be updated automatically using the WordPress dashboard. Most premium themes can be automatically updated using the WordPress dashboard. And none of the themeforest authors seem to warn people that they will have to manually update their themes. Worse yet, one of the themeforest Elite Authors I purchased a theme from earlier this year [name removed], quickly becomes hostile when asked about this issue. And even though Envato supposedly released a WordPress plugin for this very problem earlier this year, every themeforest author I’ve asked has told me their themes must be manually updated. If you use a professional web designer to work on your website, that means it could easily cost you $300 a year just to keep a $35 theme updated (one update per month x $25 for designer’s time). That’s ridiculous, especially when most premium themes can be updated automatically and for free.

This situation is particularly frustrating and unnecessary when you consider all the programming talent that is associated with Envato. In other words, if Envato or its authors truly cared about this problem, they could have provided their customers with a solution a very long time ago.

While I agree with you on the complicated and irrational update process we’re having at the moment here I would like to remind you that you get a full theme for only 35$ – 60$ (depending on the category). Of course it seems weird when you buy a theme for that price and have a freelancer updating your theme which will cost you another 300$ a year, but in the end you need to distinguish between a “template” and “custom work”. Custom Work is always more expensive and even updating a theme on your website is “custom work”. And in the end it is your choice if you hire a freelancer for that task or maybe to learn it for yourself so you can update it also for yourself. It isn’t that hard.

Most of the Premium Theme Studios are working on their own. They run their own servers and therefore they are in full control of their themes, plugins and the whole update process. That isn’t the case here at themeforest. Authors don’t have this kind of control over her. It is actually quite complicated to find a way which suite authors and customers alike. The Product needs to be verified from within your theme options (probably with the purchase code), and all authors need to update their themes according to a given concept. And that is probably the most hardest part. Reviewers need to review all wordpress themes again and check if the update procedere was successful implemented in order to have it work properly. I’m sure you can understand that.
