Would like a few advices

Hey! I’m pretty new to the whole illustrator area and I am trying to make a logo out of the chongqing bridge. BUT I am such a horrible google’r and I would like to know how you make normal lines and if anyone knows how to get effects on them?

Sorry if this is the most stupid advice requests ever posted on tf but really I need help!

Edit: http://facebook.com/swedishmediasource when my friend created this logo (as on the display picture for this fanpage) he had some strange way of drawing lines around in a area with diffrent squares and dots??? I could really need some help on how to do that as well!

With line segment tool (\) ? More advanced options will give you Pen tool (P). You’re truly horrible google’r

lol I googled it and I got confused.. most people said that I were to press that button but there was no such button on my panel :/ I didnt find the problem so I reinstalled the whole adobe master kit and now it works !
