Hello,

Some of you know me. I’m a 14 year old designer, I’m literally a kid. I love to design and code, I want to dedicate my life to all this. So I’m making you a request, what can you recommend me?

Thanks,

-Santiago – Agodesa

I think you need to be more specific about what type of recommendations you are looking for. Are you just looking for general advice? Recommendations on career paths? A direction to chose your specialty?

Anyway, good luck to you – always a big advantage to start anything young :)

Yes, in general.

Developers earn more than designers, developers/designers earn more than developers.

Don’t dedicate your life to developing and designing. Dedicate your life to helping the world, solving solutions, making things easier for others. See the difference? From this point of view design and development is just a tool and is worth nothing on itself.

  • Dedicate yourself to come outside at least one hour a day. It will keep you in touch with the real world.
  • Dedicate yourself to not reinvent the wheel.
  • Dedicate yourself to be yourself.
  • Dedicate yourself to not create the next big thing. Be dedicated to create good and usable things.
  • Use your advantages to your advantage. You are from Mexico. So you probably speak Spanish and English fluently (or you will within a few years). Can you do something with this?
  • Use your disadvantages to your advantage.
  • Dedicate yourself to be yourself. Again.

Agree with DADU . I would suggest try to work for a company (team) before starting your own venture. That will give variety of experience / clarity which will help when you start your own setup.

Congrats for entering in such an awesome age! :)

Find a very successful Designing company in your city.

Approach them and tell them your age, tell them you want to learn from them, tell them you will intern for them, do anything to get yourself into their surroundings and learn from them, tell them you will even go and get coffee for them if they will let you watch them and learn from them.

Keep learning English, but never forget your native language – you will need it when you come to California and get work from all the Spanish speaking businesses here.

Also, while you’re learning all of the neat stuff they do at the Design agency, read all their Books, Study all their Works, Learn to Design and Code from them. Ask lots of questions every chance you get.

Ask questions all the time, at school, from your art teachers, your friends . . . .Read, Read then Read some more.

Visit all the Design Sites you have time to visit and learn something everyday!
