Do those British comedies get dubbed into German as well? I know a German who likes Red Dwarf but he watched it in English I think. He also loved Father Ted. :D

No, most of them wont get dubbed and usually it’s thank God for that, because most dubbed versions of the last ten years are just awful, with ‘My Name Is Earl’ being a laudable exception.
Cant stand five minutes of ‘Seinfeld’ in German for example.
.... and Black Books… haha, I just recently saw a short clip of a dubbed version in French, but I doubt that it would be possible to even closely ‘translate’ Bernard Black to German.
No, I love watching the originals, that’s how I learn and improve my English :)

PS: And yes of course, thumbs up for ‘Father Ted’ !!!

+1 Since I started watching series in English for the first time there is no turning back to German… 80% of the humor gets “lost in translation”. The OV Big Bang is genius – no comparison to the German translation.

Humour has to be the hardest thing to translate. For a start you would lose the great Irish accents in Father Ted. :)
