@MyNameIsMatthew, I don’t mean to rain over your parade, but people will discover the closure compiler tools eventually and whatever you create will only be twice as hard to sell. I’m not sure your already aware but authors developing CSS only based solutions can go for something like google closures renamer :

https://code.google.com/p/closure-stylesheets/#Renaming

This is pretty much what JavaScript developers do. The idea is to simply make it harder for individuals trying to steal code.

Googles Closure stylesheet compiler will rename class names in your CSS to something much shorter and meaningless. Combine it with the other closure tools and you have a complete solution :
Closure Compiler to update the class names in your JavaScript and Closure Templates to update the class names in your HTML.

This will help you keep everything in sync and is a good way to provide your demonstration pages. Without clear variable names it will be quite a chore for end users to steal your hard work, surely not worth it when the item costs a few dollars :)

This is what Google uses on most of their products. Gmail, g+ etc

I thought about it and I’m glad you understand.

Even if you obfuscate the code or whatever solutions you may have thinked of, they won’t work with normal templates, there’s no solution for that, it may take some time in order to get the original code in place if you obfuscate or encode it, but that’s the only effect you can get.

Human, Browser, Browser Console, HTML, CSS files, Other static elements – Minimum 6 elements that are involved.

Yes please obfuscate / domain lock / hidden php generated expiry redirect to a “please purchase a licence” page (my personal favorite)

Anything you do is certainly a lot better than doing nothing at all :)

Domain lock is good idea in my opinion :)

Any other experience in this matter?

@Matthew,

I think all possible solutions worth to be tried and tested..

and I’m sure many people will appreciate your effort.. :)

But above all, basically this intellectual property problem is more about web 2.0 users and and their mindset rather than about technology.

It’s about mentality, education and perhaps economy ..

The disease is inside people’s head, not the technology.

Anyway, Matthew, when will you publish / share your protection tool ? :)

Generally a screenshot is a much less exciting preview than the actual working, clickable theme or Javascript tool ;)
