OK, I’ve downloaded (and converted) some awesome AudioJungle video loops and am ready to start making some “videos” and posting them on YouTube to increase my music sales. Before I start I’d like to get the opinions of those here who have already taken the YouTube plunge.
Quite simply, has it been worth your while?
Thanks, Garry O’Neal
I have several ‘videos’ up on YouTube but haven’t notice any difference in sales but it’s early days yet. I still think it’s worth doing – I create new ones whenever I have a spare moments.
p.s. I could be wrong but I don’t think you’re allowed to promote yourself with links in these forums.
I think it’s certainly worth doing, simply on the basis that it’s an extra online presence.
I also haven’t seen an increase of sales from it, per se, but my Envato analytic page suggests I’ve received quite a few item visits directly from the YouTube video. If those converted into a sale however, we will never know.
Also, page views on these type of videos is inherently low, as they’re usually found via a specific search by people looking for stock audio. Therefore, I found it’s pretty important to have them well tagged, linked and a proper description to drive the right audience.
You may also want to consider using Vimeo. In the process of setting mine up. There are a lot more creative types such as independent film makers and motion graphic designers using that site as their main video platform. Just so happens these are our customers!
I think it’s an awesome idea and has helped me HUGE ….but also once traffic comes be prepared to deal with all the people complaining about the watermark. At first I just ignored it but after thousands of comments about the watermark it starts to get really annoying!
Other then that it can be a great way to spread the word. One thing I’ve found though is that the videos need to be moderately entertaining as well. What I mean is, not every video should be the exact same visuals or people get bored really fast. Also YouTuber’s can be quite harsh sometimes.
I decided to upload one video only a year ago and the views have snowballed to over 330,000 + total views right now, with around 1,000 new subscribers. Compared with many others this is nothing, but I am glad I started is my point – because I almost blew of YouTube as a valid source of advertisement… and it has become the single best way I now spread the word about music!
Good luck man!
I have got a few referral fees from youtube and soundcloud. Maybe just a small handful have turned into sales for me. But I bet someone got a sale. Which means I helped someone here get a sale. That is one important factor for promoting on various other sites. It benefits the whole community. If we all were out there, the site traffic here could potentially increase dramatically.
If I can make one important suggestion. Put your ref link first line in the Youtube video description. Otherwise it will be hidden from viewers and they will be less likely to click on the link.
I’ve also put up a few videos on YouTube, using the AJ video assets available here on the site for the visuals. Not sure if they’re having an effect, but it certainly never hurts. Videos can also add a bit more life if you’re showcasing your work in blog posts etc.
But can anyone suggest some good sources for the visuals, other than the ones available here on AJ? They’re really great, but would be nice to have some alternatives for a little more variety.
Use video hive video for some nice hd visuals, they got some nice loop stuff. I used some time lapsed clips from there that looked cool even looped a few times for the length of the song. Leave a referal link to the videohive author and maybe someone looking for good stock video will get you a referal commission by buying footage.
Tim I guess you mean comments about the watermark like these:
“Yeah,, its a good music, i really want to use it on some of my video editing works, but the voice is really anoying so,? never mind”
“You know,? if you want us to use your music don’t put voices in them”
“She’s saying audio jungle..?
__” Wish she didnt. It’s so annoying”
I think it comes down to music whatever you doing – timmcmorris creates so good and catchy music that always find some listeners and buyers. Is it soundcloud ? Is it twitter ? Is it Burkinafaso government site ? It always going to be popular and that’s it. Create better music and buyers will find you – don’t worry.
