hi again, I just ran into another issue that I didn’t notice before. I’ve added some content under the menu, but I can’t see it on the IPad because the left side doesn’t scroll. How can I let this side scroll along with the right, or independently if that is easier.

Hi,

We choose to don’t make the sidebar scrollable, because it makes the look and feel of the theme much less simple. But if you want to change that, it’s quite simple to make the sidebar scroll with a child theme. That doesn’t mean that it will look very good in every browser, though.

Do you know how to use child themes? There is a brief description in the plattan-documentation and a more complete one in the WordPress codex (https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes).

I’ve created a minimal child-theme, which you can download here:

http://northemes.com/assets/downloads/plattan-child-140723.zip

The only file it includes, is a style.css file which overrides some color css-rules of the parent theme, you can remove these rules and add this one instead:

.sidebar-header { overflow: auto; }

If you need further assistance, just give us a note.

Hi Northemes crew.

Super good job – loving the template so far.

I should have approached you earlier about this, however i figure its better late than never.

I discovered a ‘bug’ if you like where the page shakes and repositions itself upon load/refresh. The issue occurs just in chrome (yet to test in firefox) and i know it may be a small issue but i figured its a good one to tackle..

Investigating the how and why, i found out that the shaking occurs when the content section has no space to move after its animated itself in. When there is some padding at the bottom and the window is scrollable the content window can animate and then hold its place.

Thanks a bunch.

Adrian.

Hi,

thanks for your kind words about the theme and for letting us know about the bug. We will try to replicate the issue and uploading a fix as soon as possible.

I, too, have experienced the issue described by Adrian above, or at least something similar to it.

Again, I love the theme. There’s nothing else out there quite like it. However, I’d like to see widget support added in to a future version of it. Thanks.

Hi,

appreciate your kind words about the theme. We will try to replicate the bug and fix it as soon as possible.

Widget support is the very next feature we would want to add, but we haven’t found a way yet to do it without offering the simplicity of the theme.

Widgets in the left sidebar require us to make it scroll, but a scrollbar there just don’t looks good, there are some issues in mobile views as well.

Another way is to add a widget area to posts, that’s quite easy, but most users want to have widgets on the start page, which doesn’t work with this solution.

The last possibility we are considering is a fly-in sidebar from the right, but it just don’t feels not as clean as it does now.

So, every input is welcome, where would you want to add widgets?

Thanks

Hello, I wonder how do I insert in my post-type post, both the twitter icon, as a citation appears unformatted as the model available here in the live preview of the theme forest.

appears just the quotes without any formatting and without the colored background.

thank you

northemes

Hi,

the quote-formatting appears when you choose a post to have the post-format ‘quote’. Here a link where you can see how to change it:

Hi.

I have just bought the theme and noticed the following issues. You can also view them if you simply open your own plattan-wp demo site.

1) If you open http://plattan-wp.northemes.com in IE10, the twitter icon and quote icons in the posts listing are much larger (and look bad) compared to the other browsers like Chrome

2) I am also experiencing the “shaking movement” of the left sidebar when scrolling using chrome (v36). It does not do this with IE.What I have noticed is that if you scroll using the scroller on the mouse, then the left sidebar shakes. But if you scroll by using the scrollbar on the browser, then the shaking does not occur. I hope this helps a bit more.

Then,

3) Is it possible to display the full post in the blog posts listing, instead of the standard summary with the “Read more >> ” link? \ EDIT: Nevermind, I saw an older question that showed how to do this. This would be a nice option to include on the theme though!

(I just change <?php the_excerpt(); ?> code with <?php the_content(); ?> on the loop.php file and this solve my problem.)

Thanks.

Hi,

I just got the approval mail, so the new version is now ready to download!

Thanks! I see it live on the plattan demo site and it works now! =)

northemes

Great!

Hi there,

I love the theme and I have forked it a bit to change the styling.

I am wondering how to create new, custom post types? I’d love to make post types for certain types of things I blog about, beyond just a status, post, or link. Is this possible?

Thanks,

northemes

Hi,

sorry missed your message. I’m not quite sure if you perhaps mean post-formats, not types? With some work and a bit knowledge in php and css you can easily add more formats, but we are supporting just these three.

A good starting point and a list of possible post-formats you find here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Formats

Hi,

Is it possible to change the site name in the design and put a logo instead?

northemes

Hi,

indeed are we just preparing a new release with more options in the customizer, one of them a logo instead of title and tagline. We’re expecting to release it very soon.

If you don’t want to wait you can solve the problem with a simple child-theme, I’ve created one with some adjustments, including a logo in the header. You can download it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7YuHBlChfX4Z1ZoMlJHekdEUWc/view?usp=sharing

Best to go through the style.css file and functions.php file, you might want to take out some of the changes.

Hope this helps

northemes

Hi again,

the newest release supports the upload of a logo in the customizer. Just wanted to tell you in case you missed the update from ThemeForest.

Hi

I have seen an email that the theme has been updated. Where can I view what updates were done?

Thanks

northemes

Hi,

the first section of the theme description lists all new features, here a copy of that list:

- The Plattan theme supports widgets now. One global, off-canvas area and one under posts. - You can add a logo via the WP-Customizer now, replacing the header text. - Choose one of the five color-schemes via the WP-Customizer now, no code-editing anymore - Checked for WordPress 4.0 compability

If you’re referring to the very last update, that was just a minor change, in the customizer in the Navigation section, you can change the label oft the widget-link now.

Give us a note if you have more questions.

What’s the difference between the $38 version and the $19 version?

northemes

Hi

the $38 version works with WordPress and the $19 version with Ghost (https://ghost.org/), a relatively new CMS.

Your theme is super clean. I tested 92 themes on Pingdom Tools and Plattan was the one with least requests (just 10 requests, on a normal blog post).

Did you use any cache plugins on “http://plattan-wp.northemes.com/about-northemes-high-quality-design-from-sweden/” ?

I need to analyze a web page with no cache plugins in order to compare with my current wordpress theme.

northemes

No, there is not running any cache plugin on the preview.

Hi Northemes team, Have been searching for a while for a good, fast theme for my personal blog/training diary. And i found myself coming back to Plattan, so in the end refusing to spend any more time decided to purchase your theme. Without exaggeration i can say that this was really unexpected… your theme not just looks good but it’s blazing fast!!! I couldn’t believe it how much difference it made. So, i guess, thank you is i order here for your (high) quality work. Having sad that i do experience very strange issues (most probably css related).

1. Smileys – if i put few smileys at the end of the sentence first ”:) turns into smiley but it shows up not at the end of the sentence as intended but on new line. And second” doesn’t even turn into smiley and shows up too on the new line under previous smiley. Like this: :) ”:)” (without the quotation marks) Same goes for pictures. If i insert into post few pictures they all show up under each other, no matter what alignment i have chosen.

2. I have this mini iPad (second gen i think, not the retina one) and i was expecting in horizontal position theme would change to “mobile” view. But it’s not and all text in articles is so crammed up that it makes it hard to read. Same goes for MS Surface (first gen) I would really loved to for theme to turn into “mobile” view sooner (earlier). And on both devices site name gets out of it’s border into main area ( i really don’t know how else to describe it, sorry).

3. can you, please, suggest some plugins for photos that best work with you theme?

Thank you in advance.

northemes

Hi

Thanks for your feedback. I will look into your issues and come back to you within one or two days.

I have (kind of) solved resizing problem by increasing ”@media screen” attributes from 768px to 960px. But all changes i made are in core files. Please see my latest question…i couldn’t make it work from chile theme.

Hi Northemes team,
I just have noticed another thing, not really a disturbance but would love to set it straight:
In the normal (type standard) article info about author, tags, date etc show up above the post.
But if post is type “status” then that info shows up under the post. Consistency would be lovely. I for one would like to see that under the post every time.
Thanks again for wonderful theme.

Hi Northemes team,
Just wanted to share… theme imports fonts from googleapis
they get imported via http and will make firefox display exclamation
sign in the address bar if you are running site via
https only. I did corrected it for myself, but maybe it would be nice to
include this for future updates.
Thanks again for great work.

Hi Northemes team,
Few more questions, if i may.
1. In “mobile” view twitter icon switches to the right. How can i keep it on the right always?
2. Post formats – are you planning adding them by any chance? I am especially interested in “video” (with self-hosted video support) and “aside”.
Thnks in advance for your time.

mmm… in regards with first question i meant to say: “how can i keep it on the left always.”

Hi Northemes team,
Question about child theme. I have decided to tweak theme little bit, so i created child theme with style.css and function.php. I enqueue parent theme style in functions.php rather “import” them from style.css.
Now question, when i for example, modified byline fragment in order to transform blog tagline text from uppercase to lowercase by adding to child themes style.css fragment .byline with text-transform function – it all worked like a charm.
But when i decided to increase content-wrapper max-width from 40rem to 50rem it had no effect, it didn’t work. But if i go directly to themes “core” style-4.css (one i’m using) and make change there – it works.
Could you, please, help to solve this from child theme, i really don’t want to mess with core files. Thank you.

northemes

Hi

sorry, I have to admit I’ve lost track of which problem you managed to solve and which you need an answer to.

1. I’m quite sure that the second smiley doesn’t render is not caused by the theme, because I can create multiple of them in our test version. But you are right that they shouldn’t break the text rows. We will fix this in the next release, for now you can add

img.wp-smiley { display:inline!important;}

to your child theme to fix this.

2. The problems with overriding the styles with a child-theme can have multiple causes and it’s quite hard to help you there without code examples. Check if your child-theme CSS is included after all the other CSS.

Give us a note if you need more answers, send code examples to support@northemes.com if you want.
