Homepage was looking good before. Did not change anything and now it seems the java scipts are not loaded correctly. Any ideas?

Your “New Products” slider doesn’t have enough products. You need at least 3 products in each slider to generate a second slide. Otherwise there’s nothing to slide to and it doesn’t initialize correctly.

Hi,

I am sorry to ask questions that I am sure will have been dealt with many times over… just cant seem to find the answers.

I want the catagory pages to be single column with 4 products across the page… (currently 3 products with tags in a left column). I have tried amending catalog.xml and page.xml … not sure where to go next.

I also want to change the color of the product name text and product highlight from a aqua blue… to something else but cant seem to find it in the stylesheet.

please help. with thanks Owen

GravityDept

There are some conditional settings in catalog.xml that can be confusing. You can easily set the column count in “grid view” in: /app/design/frontend/gravdept/acumen/template/catalog/product/list.phtml line 101

You’ll also want to modify the image sizes in this template and override the CSS which determines width of these elements so you can fit four instead of three products per row.

I can’t figure out or find instruction on how to make product a featured product. I think you have a way set up within your theme, but I don’t see instruction on it.

Also, thank you for referring us to Nexcess hosting. Those peo[le are amazing! I don’t think I’ll ever host with anyone else as long as they are around. Absolutely the best out of about 12 I’ve tried and by far!

GravityDept

Check the documentation section “Categories”. The “Category Slider UI Widget” simply pulls products from the “Featured” category that you create here. If you add products to this category then they appear in the UI Widget.

Nexcess is superb for Magento hosting. Glad to hear they’re treating you well.

Do you know if your theme interferes with EV SSL certificates? I currently have it installed in my store, but the EV just temporarily shows up when each page loads, then disappears. The EV stays visible no problem in the “admin” login… Your help will be greatly appreciated.

URL : https://www.funnydummy.com/store/

Thanks!

GravityDept

This isn’t an Acumen issue, it’s from extra content you’ve added that isn’t protocol independent (it’s always called over HTTP not HTTPS ). This content is accessed over HTTP while the rest of the page is HTTPS . The partially insecure content prevents the EV SSL certificate from working. See these assets which are causing the problem: http://cl.ly/LC0w

Is it possible to show the original AND special price under the product? It works fine when I revert to the default theme but it does not show on Acumen?

Thanks.

GravityDept

Yes, all the pricing info is included in the page but it’s currently hidden in CSS . I’ve changed this in Acumen 1.3.5 so special pricing conditions for a product are visible by default because few people have asked about where this info is.

Regarding Funnydummy’s question, is there a proper way to avoid such issues. In our current, older cart you had to upload images with the admin panel otherwise certain browsers would throw a security issue so consumers would see this warning about non secure content.

Is this the same with Magento?

GravityDept

Always use Magento’s URL methods when adding content like images that requires an HTTP request. In CMS Pages this is done via {{skin url=”the/path/to/image.jpg” }} or in PHP with the method: echo $this->getSkinUrl(‘the/path/to/image.jpg’);

If you just write http://domain.com/path/to/image.jpg it will always be http even when the page requires https because you’ve hardcoded the protocol.

Hi GravityDept

Any update on Acumen 1.3.5 ?

all the best Corrado Izzo

GravityDept

Nothing new to share at this time. I generally don’t discuss the specifics of releases before they’re released. When I’m happy with the quality of the updates and documentation it will be released.

hi Gravity

Thanks for the reply.

I just asked because 16 days ago you wrote here that you would release it the week after.

“Acumen has used HTML5 for over a year (since Acumen 1.2.9). I’m prepping Acumen 1.3.5 for release this week, and will be sharing more about Acumen’s roadmap in a blog post.”

I have been following the thread daily and am waiting for the update as it seems to me that you are implementing alot of positive changes.

I am waiting because updating a theme can be a pain at times and if possible i want to avoid that.

Will updating from the current version to 1.3.5 be difficult for a Non- Developer ?

Thank you

GravityDept

Acumen 1.3.5 is done from a development standpoint, but I’m reworking how documentation and theme updates are distributed. Since this release is all optimization and feature improvements — and not prompted by any Magento releases or bug fixes — I’m fine with delaying it until those pieces are ready.

Keep in mind, there is always another update in development. When 1.3.5 is done I’ll start working on 1.3.6 and then 1.3.7 and so on. If you’re holding out for the next release, then you’ll always be waiting.

Upgrading can be difficult or easy depending on your technical comfort level and how much you’ve customized Acumen. It was designed specifically for this so as much as possible your custom code is separated to make updates easier than most themes.

Is there a limit on the Featured Product slider? I can only get 9 products to scroll through.

GravityDept

The Featured Product Slider UI Widget is simply a category with a different presentation, so it still has the default limit assigned to categories (in grid view). Keep in mind loading more than 10 items probably isn’t a good idea for performance reasons. Most users won’t click through that many slides.

To have the slider controls visible, you need 3 or more items selected as new or 3+ for featured.

Is there a way to have 2 items featured (so no controls) and have 3+ new items with controls visible?

Right now, as soon as one ‘section’ only has 2 items, the controls disappear for both.

GravityDept

You need at least 3 products in each instance of those sliders to generate second slides. Otherwise there’s nothing to slide to and the slider code shared between them doesn’t initialize correctly. If you want to have a non-sliding list of products pulled from a category, then the Featured Products Slider isn’t the right choice because you’re deliberately putting it in a situation to fail. You may need to build a custom UI Widget for your exact needs.

Your server may be denying the mail. You’ll have to talk with your admins about its configuration.

Hi Brendan, on my site on the homepage its showing 3 featured products, I’m not sure what caused it.By any chance do you know if there is a way of showing 2 again. cheers!

GravityDept

Check the documentation section for the widget. There is an option that controls how many appear per page. You’ll need at least three products for a two column slider though.

There’s Description, Details, and Tags tabs on the lower half of the product page. I can’t find anywhere in the Magento backend where to put any description information for that tab. Also, is there a way to change the name of or add tabs?

GravityDept

Description is the product description. Details is a table of the product’s attributes if you’ve configured any. Tags are created by your customers.

You can add new tabs by editing the product view template, and names can be changed this way or using Magento’s translation methods.

I doubt this is an Acumen issue, most likely another david issue. I’ve set up Free Shipping for $50 but the tax is being added to the total before that rule so if someone has $47 in their cart it qualifies at $50.17.

I have Apply Discount On Prices = Excluding Tax set in the Config/Sales/Tax.

GravityDept

Make sure you’re applying the minimum order value for the promotion to the subtotal and not the total. Themes don’t have any impact on this. They only show the form and whether a promotion is applied. All the processing happens in the core, and promotions are configured in the admin.

Default-user
davidl Purchased

I didn’t really think it was an Acumen issue, thanks for responding.

I can’t figure this out though, I’m not doing it as a coupon but offering it via the shippers, FedEx and USPS. and I’ve tried the free shipping section there too. Nothing seems to change the results.

Not expecting an answer just venting…

GravityDept

Generally it’s more flexible to set up promotions using Magento’s promotion tools rather than shipping functions. That’s what I’d use. The free shipping functions built into each shipping carrier may differ slightly, and I know changing the order of rule precedence is difficult in Magento.

For related products, the word “Compliment” is used incorrectly. It should be Complement, as noted here: http://www.elearnenglishlanguage.com/difficulties/complementcompliment.html

I’ve fixed it in the related.phtml but FYI for future updates…

And this support ticket is free of charge! :)

GravityDept

Good catch! This has already been fixed since Acumen 1.3.4. It will be included in the 1.3.5 release.

Great theme! Coming over from WP and the Magento back-end is sooo much better.

This is the WP theme before I bailed when I realized I needed Acumen on Magento: onewinestand.com

Got Magento installed. Got the theme installed. Your docs simplified the process. Got Magento configured. Again, thanks to your docs.

This is the prelim: 1winestand.com

Starting the tweaks to create the 1winestand site and coming up short. Can’t find sample pages, code, or config data in the theme package to reproduce the functionality of your demo/preview site. My thought was to take that configuration and page code and reshape it.

I’ve already swapped in my own placeholder images and edited the code to create the 1winestand version.

Where in the Acumen package is the demo site page code and configuration data? Hoping to roll this out next week.

GravityDept

All the setup info is included in the documentation HTML file. Follow all the sections to the end. There is also a spreadsheet which includes all the relevant config options you must add to the Magento admin. Obviously there is no product/category data included as part of installation because that comes from your store’s catalog.

I have added images to my products in magento. But when I go to the product page in magento, the main image is still the placeholder image and not the uploaded product image. The product image is shown below the placeholder image as asmall icon. Any way I can fix this and make the product image the main image?

GravityDept

Your server permissions are probably set incorrectly. Talk to your host, they should be familiar with what to do.

Default-user

Hi GravityDept,

which server permissions on which folders are you talking about? Sound like you have seen this problem before.

regards,

Ed Alkema

GravityDept

Well, if you’re uploading product images and they don’t get saved on the server then your permissions for /media are probably too strict. The exact values needed vary server to server though and it can depend which user apache/whatever executes as. That’s why it’s best to go straight to your host because they know exactly how the server is configured.

Related: use Nexcess’ specialized Magento hosting and you’ll never have this problem. See http://gravitydept.com/to/nexcess

“The product image is shown below the placeholder image as as mall icon. ” I can upload images and they are stored on the server and shown with the image, only not as the main product image! The placeholder is shown as the main image! Here is an example http://stylecase.nl/stylecase-januari-2013 The small image below the big ‘product image’ is the image assigned in the back-end as the product image!

GravityDept

Looks like you’re using the default/modern theme. I can’t see the problem you’re describing but it’s possible an extension or customization error is causing it. Make sure the image you uploaded is properly assigned to the size roles in the admin.

“Looks like you’re using the default/modern theme. I can’t see the problem you’re describing but it’s possible an extension or customization error is causing it.”

You can’t see the problem? Don’t you see one big image with a “stylecase logo” and below that a smaller image with a pink giftbox with a ribbon? The big picture is the placeholder image and the small one the assigned product image (done in the admin) I am using the Acumen theme (with some css changes) not the default theme.

GravityDept

When I checked this morning on my iPhone the default/modern theme loaded and not Acumen, so I couldn’t see anything wrong.

You need to assign the base, small, and thumbnail image for each product. This does not happen automatically when you upload an image. See this screenshot for an example: http://cl.ly/LRgi

I checked if I assigned all image types. But it looks like the radio button for the base image is missing from the interface!

Ok I found the solution. Some crappy AheadWorks module messed up. Answer is here > http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/198705/#t253330

Sorry to have bothered you! I hope this will help anyone who has ran in to the same problem I have.

GravityDept

Glad you got it working. Yes, extensions can do very bad things sometimes. I generally recommend avoiding them if possible.

I’ve got a question regarding the ordering of items in sliders like ‘Featured Products’ and “New Products’. Is there a specific order in which items appear, or is this random on every page load (considering that all settings have been made of course).

Also, it would be nice if one could search in this style’s comments ;-)

GravityDept

‘Featured Products’ is a category, so you can order them however you like. ‘New Products’ is a generated list, which I believe is sorted chronologically by “new to date”. So you have some control over the order but it’s not drag/drop.

You could simply use two “Category Product Slider” widgets and give one a label of “New Products”. Then you could easily curate and order the list manually.

Thanks for the tip!

Hi there—does 1.3.5 include downloadable content support? Thanks!

GravityDept

Downloadable product support is partially completed, but will likely not be included in Acumen 1.3.5. Less than 5 people have ever inquired about downloadable product support so this feature has never been a high priority. I’m focusing on more important changes to Acumen’s architecture in the next few releases that everyone will benefit from.

Hi,

Once again thanks for the great theme.

Hopefully you can help! I’m trying to streamline certain landing pages by removing specific elements. For example I want to remove the entire footer on only the checkout page using css. What code would I use?

GravityDept

Take a look at the body tag as you browse around the site. Magento adds a class to identify every page that you can use to target its content.

You could write a rule like this to hide it: .checkout-onepage-index #footer { display:none; }

Gravity, i received your reply. Unfortunately, I don’t think the issue I contacted you about two weeks ago is a result of another other extension I am using. when I disable acumen and enable the modern theme, everything in the shopping cart aligns properly. Can you help me with this issue?

GravityDept

It is an extension conflict. Many extensions are tested only with the default/modern theme, which is a poor practice. Virtually all themes (like Acumen) extend the core Magento theme package which is base/default (not default/modern). You will need to merge the extension and theme customizations to use them together together.
