Hi Gravity

Great work

I want to customize your design slightly to fit our client’s requests. I would like to make a mockup ideally in PS and show the client a few versions of how your design could be modified to suit his requirements.

Is it possible to get access to the PSD files once purchased similar to other high-end templates ?

Keep up the good work with great support and a spot on design package.

The initial designs are in the /source/concept folder as layered PNGs, but Acumen was primarily designed in the browser — and it’s evolved a lot since 2010. The original concepts aren’t really relevant anymore and reproducing mockups for the sake of having them has never been a priority. The real design is documented in the code because that’s where it lives.

All graphic assets used in the site have accompanying layered PNG source files in the /source/img folder. You can open them in Fireworks or Photoshop if you prefer.

Default-user

Thanks for a swift answer. The way we normally work is by customizing the design in photoshop and presenting that to the client. As I understand the PSD files for the design is not something that is available from you ? Or are they ? I might be misunderstanding you.

Thanks in advance.

GravityDept

What I’m saying is there aren’t PSD files in the sense you’re asking for. Rather than designing pictures of websites, I built Acumen in the medium where its design lives: in the browser.

I used graphics programs only to mock up early layout / typographic ideas before moving into code. Commonly known as “designing in the browser”, the entire design process moved into HTML / CSS prototyping and the aesthetic of the site was refined outside of Photoshop/Fireworks. It’s been continually updated over the last three years, so those original mockups bear little resemblance to the site today (they are included though if you’re interested).

Mockups are a starting point, not an end point. There’s little value in recreating and maintaining a picture of the site — that’s just an intermediary to the actual design. If you need to present flat mockups to your client then I suggest taking screenshots of the Acumen demo and customizing them.

Hey Brendan, Trevor here (we’ve been emailing).

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why the 1 column layout is messed up.

Here’s an example page.

http://www.gadgetwraps.com/devices.html

Whatever is in the content box isn’t contained in the main section. The text spills over to the left and right. What did I screw up? I tried replacing the entire App/Design folder but it didn’t help.

GravityDept

I got your email too, sending a reply over there.

Hi GravityDept, How to enable sidebar “Popular Tags”?

GravityDept

If your products have tags it is shown automatically. If no tags exist then it obviously won’t be displayed.

Hi, the following TripAdvisor code is not working on my product page:

<div id="TA_selfserveprop710" class="TA_selfserveprop">
<ul id="ODnRzJ52op8" class="TA_links C2dkXR">

</ul>

It seams like is not loading the external java script file. You can see it here: http://staging.thecelebrityplanet.com/london/harry-potter-film-locations-london.html just above the Facebook like box.

The same code works on our current website, running a different theme: http://dev.thecelebrityplanet.com/london/

Any ideas why?

Thanks.

GravityDept

There’s nothing in Acumen that would prevent loading an external script inline. It’s just HTML and JS. Since it’s third-party code though you’re in charge of debugging it. I don’t see anything offhand that looks wrong though.

Default-user

I contacted TripAdvisor and they replied:

“Some other JavaScript on your website is blocking the TripAdvisor widget to load. When this type of JavaScript issue happens, it means that another module is not fully loading, which block the widget to load. We usually recommend to look at the page source, find the TripAdvisor widget, then start removing script blocks that are located after the widget in the page source until the widget starts to work.”

I have no idea which “script blocks that are located after the widget” could be preventing it from working properly. I understand it’s a third-party code, but any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

GravityDept

You’ll need to hire a developer to assist. There are too many scripts, extensions, and customizations on your site to easily pinpoint the problem. What TripAdvisor suggested is correct. You’ll need to audit everything that’s been added to the site to identify what’s causing the problem.

Default-user

OK, we’ve found the script that was causing the conflict and it wasn’t related with the theme. Thanks a lot for the great support.

GravityDept

I also received your email and will reply over there. This is most likely from using a newer version of Acumen with an older version of Magento. Releases are paired together. You have to use the appropriate versions.

i need to download 1.3.3 version, as I do?

Hello Team.

I am trying to put a rel=”nofollow” attribute on the top links (log in, my account etc) and other pages.

any help about?

GravityDept

Those links are generated via Layout XML. You have to add attributes to the links using Magento’s XML syntax, which is a little cumbersome. You’d be much better off doing this in robots.txt.

However, it’s probably not a good idea to prevent search engines from indexing those pages. You want users to be able to find the login page easily. Search engines obviously won’t be able to access the interior pages without credentials so that’s not really even a concern.

I don’t know what you mean by that. You can check that it’s valid XML, but that doesn’t mean it will be parsed by Magento properly.

I’ve just upgrading from version 1.5 to 1.7.0.2. On the product page my prices seem to be incorrectly displaying.

The correct price is in pale grey and the Special Price is Large and prominent.

www.pulseight-sample2.co.uk/flowers/index.php/tulips-flowers-delivered.html

Is this something I’ve done? The site also displays 0.00 as the price under all of the products.

Regular Price: £23.99

Special Price: £0.00

Did you try refreshing the cache and indices?

Just done so, hasn’t made a difference – I’ve checked database table and price is in the correct price column and special price is 0.00 in catalog_product_flat_1 – for some reason my site now seems to be using special price instead of price.

GravityDept

I wouldn’t try to read the DB schema directly, Magento stores relationships in pretty abstract ways. Look in the Admin. If you have special price set to $0, then it’s going to display as $0 on the site. You have to make the field empty to unset a special price.

There’s nothing in Acumen that should cause a difference in the pricing template. That file is inherited through base/default and isn’t part of Acumen’s custom files.

Default-user

Sorry – I’ve wasted your time – I’ve just flipped to the default theme and it’s the same . I should have tried that first :( . First class support though – Thank You!

Hi, was just browsing this product with a view to purchase.

Could you tell me the best way to use this with regards updateability.

I gather from comments css can be modified cleanly in an overides file. Is there a similar best practice for layouts and templates ? Should I use your theme as a sort of layer between my theme and magento ?

Thanks in Advance

GravityDept

If you intend to make a lot of customizations, you can simply create a child theme that inherits from gravdept/acumen which inherits from base/default. This way all your changes are separate from Acumen and the Magento core theme.

Default-user

As I hoped. Thanks for the quick response.

I’m fairly new to magento, so please bare with me. I have have installed your theme as per your instructions and have been working through the guide, but I am having issues with the URL rewrites. The ID path and Target Path fields are grayed out with category/# and category/view/id/# lines and if i put for example ‘home’ or ‘about’ in my request path it does not properly redirect to those pages. and yes I have created those pages and the names are the same. Any help would be appreciated.

Update to my issue:

When editing a URL rewrite, if i put for example:

aboutus/?___store=default

into the redirect path, my naviagation menu on the main page correctly redirects to the page. This doesn’t seem like the right way to do this, but I may be wrong.

Figured it out, was failing to create custom rewrites. My bad, sorry for the bother.

GravityDept

No worries, cheers.

Default-user

Ok, so I’ve spent some time researching and reading because I am still having some problems. As long as I change the target path in my url rewrite from eg. “catelog/category/view/id/4” to eg.”aboutus” my menu items work flawlessly. The only problem I have is when I reindex my url rewrites they all get reverted back to the “catelog/category/view/id/#” in the target path and go from custom rewrites to system rewrites. So for now I have set my index updating to manual so it will not auto update and have made a backup of my core_url_rewrite myql DB so if anything happens I can easily import it to avoid tedious manual changes. I have also looked into creating custom id #’s to stop it from reverting to system #’s but that didn’t work out. I get the impression this is magento related and not theme related, but any advice would be appreciated.

GravityDept

You should not be rewriting catalog URLs to CMS pages. The menu markup Magento generates is composed entirely from the Mage_Catalog module. When the catalog is reindexed Magento replaces all URL rewrites for the catalog and that’s why your custom rewrites into the catalog module are disappearing.

The correct way to add non-catalog links to the menu is inject them into the markup manually so the catalog module is unaffected. In Acumen this is done with Snippets before and after the nav to make your life easier.

For stores with complex blends of category and page links you need to build the entire menu manually. This is far more efficient than trying to force Magento to do what it’s not meant to.

Default-user

Thank you so much! I didn’t quite understand the snippets section previously from the documentation but you cleared it up and solved my issues.

hello! first off thank you for continuing help with this theme. i am very impressed with how diligent you are responding to people. my question today is that while i have many products selected as new and the date they are selected as new has not passed, but today the home page decided that there are no new items to display. i flushed the caches and reindexed the data and redid a few of the “mark as new” dates and they are still not showing up. have you seen this before? any ideas?

GravityDept

The “new products” index in Magento is finicky. It needs to be re-indexed regularly so normally this is done with cron jobs. Also remember that dates are not your local time, it’s whatever time the server is configured to be. So if you want newness to start immediately it’s a good idea to set the start date to yesterday.

The best way to get around these issues is to not use the new products fields at all. Just setup a category called “New” but don’t put it in your navigation. Then use the “category slider” UI Widget to show its products. This gives you a lot more control, but you have to manage it manually.

Is it possible to have sub, sub categories show up on the left hand column when someone goes to a main category? Right now only the first sub level is on the sidebar Shop BY:

So if you have Clothing on your menu bar and it drops down to MENS & WOMENS and under each of those is more sub categories what happens now is if you click on Clothing only MENS & WOMENS is shown on the left side.

GravityDept

Yes, this is possible but it’s not the functionality of layered navigation. Magento implements categories in layered navigation as filters to drill-down into lower categories. You can only have filter active per attribute at a time. It doesn’t render the whole hierarchy.

You need to implement a separate block that includes the full navigation hierarchy, and CSS/JS to show/hide the levels as needed. There are tons of articles and forum posts describing how others have implemented this.

I see what you’re describing now. It’s because you added margins for #matter and this breaks the grid system math.

ok, what do you suggest to do? Maybe I don’t understand well but the problem is the same when I install the homepage from your file (the page with lumberjack flanel, bikinis etc) before that I modify the page with my banners or anthing else)

Remove the margins you added to #matter. Then everything will align properly.

I ask you to be patient :-( , I don’t understand what i added. When I put the code of the homepage taken from your “readme” file the problem is sill here, without any action from me. Scuse me again …

GravityDept

Look in override.css. You added margins to the #matter element. If you remove these changes, the content will align properly. The problem is not with the content, the problem is that the CSS you introduced breaks the grid system.

Thank you for the theme. I recently installed it on my magento 1.6.2 and the category menu bar at the top is not working. I then installed it on a Magento 1.7.02 and it worked just fine. Is the latest version compatible with 1.6.2? Perhaps I can download the previous version from you? Please let me know. Thank you.

GravityDept

Acumen 1.3.4 is designed specifically for Magento 1.7.0.2, which is the latest version.

If you’re using Magento 1.6.2.0, then you have to use Acumen 1.3.3. You can’t mix/match releases and expect everything to continue working. This is mentioned in the documentation and the full compatibility table is documented on the changelog: http://acumen-magento.gravdept.com/tour/changelog/

If you need an earlier version contact me from my profile and include exactly which version of Acumen you need.
