Hello jason whenever i am adding new images on a page to show the gallery, it shows all the images instead of showing the images what i want. so how could i insert the particular selected images for a gallery.

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

Here are the parameters you can use with WordPress’s gallery shortcode:

Hi Jason,

Can you please let me know how to avoid losing builder layouts? Which activities affect the database and how layouts can be maintained if any alterations to the database are required?

I have backed up my database, but it is a major hassle to restore it each time. I recently exported my content and I was unaware this would affect the database, and with it my layouts.

What is the best way to prevent such losses?

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

When you transfer your database, are you manually changing anything in the the database or the database’s export file? Like maybe the site URL or anything?

Default-user

Hi, and thanks for the reply. I haven’t transfered the database at all. I changed the site URL from a directory to the root with the config file. Other than that only the .htaccess and index were moved manually. The issue I had was that (12 hours after changing the URL ) I tried to export the content from the wordpress dashboard and lost all the layouts. How can I avoid this from happening? Any other warnings about what will affect the database? Many thanks!

ThemeBlvd

Are you using Akita 1.1+ and were your layouts saved while running Akita 1.1+? If, so you should be able to export/import the layouts with WordPress’s dashboard importer.

But remember that much of your data from WordPress is serialized when you store it in your database. So if you edit anything directly in your database, you risk messing that up if you’re doing any kind of database transfer.

The custom layouts are a custom a custom post type and the elements and their settings are meta data saved to the post. There’s nothing unique about what the theme is doing to save these things to the database. We’re simply using the system that WordPress has setup, nothing custom.

Is it possible to call a lightbox image from call to action button in the slogan area?

ThemeBlvd

Helllo,

No, apologies, but there is currently no feature in the theme for this. However, this will be possible in the next update with v2.2 of the framework a couple months down the road.

Hi Jason. My client has requested a fairly simple change to the header of his Akita theme. He would like me to add text on the right side of his site’s header that includes his company name, address, phone numbers and email address. I intend on including this within the Header Start and Header End where there is the following :

<div style="float:right;width:60%;">
    <div>...new text content here...</div>
</div>

I understand I will need to add formatting to my div containing the new content. Unfortunately he is unable to provide me with the .ZIP containing the theme he purchased due to power outages on the east coast – he can’t power up his computer…

He gave me a login to his site and I’ve been trying to track down where the header gets generated. Wordpress’ editor isn’t the greatest to be doing this and it’s taking too much time. This is in header.php:

/**
* Display header elements.
*/
themeblvd_header_top();
themeblvd_header_above();
themeblvd_header_content();
themeblvd_header_menu();

I am assuming I’ll want to look at the themeblvd_header_content() function. Would you please point me to the file containing this function?

Also, if you recommend making this change elsewhere I am all ears.

Thank you very much!

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

I truly apologize for the inconvenience, but you will need to login to the ThemeForest account here in which you’ve purchased the theme to receive support.

ThemeBlvd

Ok, no problem; please just make sure to post from the account in which the theme was purchased in the future.

The functions you’re referencing in header.php are linked to action hooks. The theme framework is designed around you not editing header.php or any main template files.

So, make sure you obviously have a Child theme activated, and in your Child theme’s functions.php, you’d just hook your content to the appropriate action hook. Here’s a complete map:

http://dev.themeblvd.com/tutorial/primary-framework-action-hooks/

For example:

function my_header_addon(){
    ?>
    <div style="float:right;width:60%;">
            <div>...new text content here...</div>
    </div>
    <?php
}
add_action( 'themeblvd_header_addon', 'my_header_addon' );

Hi again Jason.

I understand your position. I hope my client will be able to get me the login/password. He’s in a bad way right now since he has no power and no way to charge his cell phone. I’ll await his reply and point you back to my question (without retyping it) once I hear from him.

Jason, I understand and want to thank you.

I’ve made the needed changes.

I’m very impressed by how you created this theme. It’s brilliant to develop a common and reusable framework across your themes. I have some recommendations to make to several clients/prospective clients and will be considering your themes for their sites.

Thank you.

Hey there, really like your theme and I was about to make the purchase but I have noticed that the slider transistions in IE8 are jerky and practically non-existant. Is there any way around this? My client’s user base will predominantly be viewing their website with IE8 (unfortunately).

Thanks

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

For the slider, we’re just using the Flexslider plugin and it has its known quirks in in IE8 and isn’t 100% perfect. Unfortunately, there’s not much that can be done about that. The “slide” transition seems to work much better than the “fade” transition in IE8 , which is something you can choose when setting up the theme.

Isn’t flexslider based on jquery library? Weird that it is fudging up in ie as I have integrated other jquery sliders into static HTML pages before with a bit more success although I will say it can be challenging. If you say I can get a better transition out of the “slide” effect – that’s the direction I will go – but before I buy the theme could you show me an example of this transition in action so I can test in IE8 ?

Many thanks

ThemeBlvd

Because a slider is made with jQuery doesn’t mean it’s coded any more similar to the next one necessarily. But, Flexslider is unique because they’ve set it up in a way where it scales down responsively as you change the browser window larger and smaller. That is not something you’re going to find in many other slider plugins, and I’m sure creating it was a pretty big endeavor. So, there is some cost that comes with that, I suppose. Hopefully it’ll improve in the future.

You can see the slide transition here: http://www.themeblvd.com/demo/alyeska/features/shortcodes/shortcodes-sliders/

Hi Jason, If it can be done, could you please explain how: 1. to change the color of the social media icons in the header, and, 2. How to change the color and, if possible, make the navigation buttons on the right side of the flex-slider just slightly bigger?

Thank you very much!

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

The color of your social icons is controlled from here Appearance > Theme Options > Styles > Main > Socia Media Button Style—You choices include dark, light, or grey. There are the only options provided to you for that.

And I apologize, but the theme does not come with any options for changing colors or sizes of the buttons of the sliders.

Anything outside of the scope of the theme’s options would be customizations you’d need to make to the theme. —

For CSS changes, it’s a good idea to use a tool like firebug or Google Chrome’s built-in developer tools to locate them and then put the edits either in your child theme or in the “Custom CSS ” option on your theme options page.

Also, here’s a helpful tutorial on how to use Firebug – http://vimeo.com/20917974. The only thing I’d suggest not doing is actually making edits to the theme’s CSS files, as it shows at the end of that video. However, the video serves as a good introduction to Firebug and how it can be used to find what CSS is effecting certain areas of your site without ever digging around in any files.

Thank you Jason…I will check into that…One other thing. I have been searching my website code, etc…and cannot find the answer to why, when I use the Text Widget and attach a link to my text, it comes out italicized. I would be so grateful if you could shed some light on that. Again, thank you much.

Please provide a link to the issue so I can see specifically what you’re referring to.

Thank you. here is the link…http://westbaymediatestingsite.com/.

It is the Text Widget on the right in pink Italics.

ThemeBlvd

Put this in your custom CSS :

.widget a {
    font-family: inherit;
    font-style: normal;
    font-weight: normal;
}

Hello Jason, I have created drop down menus for the top menu bar on my site. They work fine when I am on the site with a laptop computer. I have a Nexus Tablet at home running Android Jelly bean. When i click on a menu item to see the drop down list, the list drops down but i can’t select from it. I am taken to the main page of that menu item and the drop down list closes quickly. Not sure what is going on.

Thanks, Chris

Hello Jason, I am adding more to the previous question. What I am seeing is that the hover feature for the drop down menu isn’t working on the Nexus Tablet. I have to tap the menu item. Or… I may be using the tablet incorrectly.

Thanks, Chris

ThemeBlvd

Hello Chris,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with this, but this is honestly as straight-forward as a hover can be. I’m not even sure where you’d begin to change anything?

One thing you could try is just removing the click on the main nav buttons all together? That is the problem, after all, that being that these devices are interpreting your hover for a click, I guess.

Watch this video: http://vimeo.com/32559964

I guess the downside is this will be reflected on desktops, as well. However, it seems quite popular among buyers that they want to have top level parent menu items that don’t actually click through to anywhere for organizational purposes of their primary navigation.

HI. can you tell me the easiest way to overide fonts in the child theme.

I am trying something like this in the child theme style.css, but not quite seeing the results I am expecting. especially in IE (suprise suprise….)

.slide-description{ }

font-family: 'GL-Antique';
src: url('fonts/GL-Antique.eot');
src: local('?'),
     url('fonts/GL-Antique.woff') format('woff'), url('fonts/GL-Antique.ttf') format('truetype');

Thanks for your input.

I assure you the theme does not include any super-secret magical things that blocks the implementation of CSS3 fonts. ;-)

Thanks for the response, yea, the forum put the brackets in a weird spot.

I am just diving in to web fonts and wanted to make sure there was nothing on your end that made it wonky.

thanks again.

ThemeBlvd

The important thing there is have to make sure the font file paths are relative to the location of the CSS file itself.

Hey thanks for answering my last question! I want to revisit a question I asked a while ago and we found a work around… I am trying to get a single category of posts to appear on one page, but for some reason it is showing all categories, even though I am only specifying one specific Category be shown. zerodowncarmillionaire.com/betasite All of the page names in the nav match the corresponding categories. My issue, is say… trying to get the 1 category become-a-millionaire to show only the become-a-millionaire posts on the Become A Millionaire page. I have used the TB shortcode generator, but it seems to not be working correctly. Basically the work around you had told me was this : I can’t see what you’re putting into the shortcode for your category entries, but why not just link to the category archive pages themselves that WordPress already creates for you? Example: zerodowncarmillionaire.com/category/become-a-millionaire/ And then the display settings for these posts can be found at Appearance > Theme Options > Content > Archives.

That works, but I can’t modify the pages, say put stuff at the top and bottom of them. I did realized that the TB Shortcode Generator is actually displaying the correct category’s posts FIRST , but then after it says View All Posts, it shows the rest of the posts below. See this on zerodowncarmillionaire.com/appraisals There are only 3 posts on that page, and after the third you see the View All Posts, and then the rest of the posts.

Is this a bug? Is there a quick snippet of script I can put in?

If you would like access to the site, you can email me at topher@toe-fur.com

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

On that page you’re linking to (zerodowncarmillionaire.com/appraisals), you selected the post list page template and then put a [post_list] shortcode in the top of it also. So what you’re seeing is what should be happening. Change that page’s template to the default page template, and you should be good to go. —Make sense?

Hi. I am trying to load my own JS file to the header. I am using the functions.php in the child theme.

Using wp_enqueue_script and get_stylesheet_directory_uri() I haven’t been able to get it to load. I’ve rechecked various documentation on the internet to no avail.

Any direction would be helpful. Thanks.

ThemeBlvd

Ok, so I’m assuming this probably just something because of how you’re pasting this into the comments there, but you don’t have a closing bracket on your function or a closing parentheses on your wp_enqueue_script function. It should be:

add_action('wp_enqueue_scripts', 'my_scripts_method');
function my_scripts_method() {
    wp_enqueue_script( 'testi_next', get_stylesheet_directory_uri().'/assets/testi_next.js', array('jquery') );
}

So, what’s the problem, exactly? What do you mean specifically by “I haven’t been able to get it to load.”—Is the file being outputted in the head of your source code? Or you just can’t get the path right to the JS file? Keep in mind your code is currently pulling the file directly from the assets folder. Are you sure you didn’t mean to pull from assets/js/ ?

Default-user

You assume wrong. I’m a goof and didn’t close it properly. Long sighh on me!

lol ok… No worries. Glad you got it working.
