Hello! I’ve been looking at the details and previews of the Aleyska and Akita themes; both are very classy. They seem similar in many ways; is there a significant difference between the two themes? Thank you for your help! Heather

Hello Heather,

Both themes use the same framework and have the same basic features for setting up your content. The difference between Alyeska and Akita is essentially just what you see in the design and then the design-related options that come with each theme.

Question – Is it possible to change the color of the buttons under the slider to be more pronounced? Maybe, for example, if the main background color is black to have them be bright white?

I have the following issue;it takes almost 17sec to load the homepage although the photos I use is according to your instructions. Also, I have tested the server and change two companies and no speed difference. I’m not totally sure I understand what you’re asking or expecting for an answer. So forgive me if I’m misunderstanding.

You can preview all of the theme’s shortcodes by going to the live demo and looking under Features > Shortcodes from the main menu.

And I assure you the theme does not have any kind of hidden spam, or sinister alterier motives for world domination.

Presales questions: Does Akita use TB framework 2.2? If not, when might that happen, and what are the differences with 2.1?

Also, I noticed the last update for Akita shows December 8 but the changelog shows August 15th.

Hello,

Akita currently uses v2.1. No theme except Jump Start contains v2.2. I’m in the process of updating all themes on ThemeForest. I actually have Akita pretty much finished, but I want to have them all done and do the updates all at once to avoid mass confusion across buyers. I’m sorry but I just can’t say when exactly this will happen, but it’s all I’m doing at the moment. I won’t be making any new themes or doing any other projects until this is done.

The last update to Akita was on August 15. ThemeForest apparently logs any time we make any changes to the Item at all as updating the theme in that date you’re referencing. I think in that instance, I just made a change to the display image of the product to show that it is compatible with WP 3.5.

Thanks. With that, I’m leaning toward wpjumpstart. I have some specific builder elements I would like to code. Am I correct to assume that with TB 2.1 or 2.2 I’ll be able to develop builder elements that query and render custom post types (assuming dev competency of course) ?

Yeah, nothing that I can think of has changed in regards to creating your own builder elements from framework v2.1 to v2.2. You can create your own builder elements with whatever options you want and have them output whatever you want in your custom callback function.

Yup, you can put in any logo image you want. Realistically, you’ve got about 920px to work with there in the content area of the header.

Is there a way to set permalinks to postname instead of /index.php/ postname /? I would like to avoid “index.php” in the hyperlink. If I do that, I am getting errors.

The problem with the support forum is that no-one answers the posts. I am having lots of trouble with the theme:

1. I am unable to set custom permalinks 2. I had to re-install MySql and the theme layout builder is no longer working.

Is there a chance to get in touch with the developer?

Permalinks have absolutely nothing to do with the theme in any way. If you have an issue with the Layout Builder feel free to post about that in the support forum, but it sounds like you’re clearing having issues with your server setup you’re going to need to work out with your host.

Honestly though the fact that you could post a question for the first time our support forum about something that isn’t even theme related, and only four hours later come and post publicly that, “The problem with the support forum is that no-one answers the posts.”—I find to be sort of offensive as the developer and someone who personally spends 2-4 hours every single day helping people in the support forum.

Please be respectful of our system, post in the correct place like all of the other buyers, abide by our support terms, and give a reasonable amount of time for responses.

Really? My question was removed from the support forum with no answer. I think support is part of the author’s responsibility and I certainly appreciate your time answering the non-technical questions in quite lengthy manner.

For those running the theme on localhost – it is not possible to use custom permalinks, use post IDs until you are on a real server.

FYI – the font size on tablets is quite small. 11px is not very user-friendly.

The removal from the support forum was honestly an accident. I had got something mixed up on my end.

Please understand what I’m telling you. If you have a problem with permalinks on your localhost, it is something to do with your setup. The only scenario where permalinks would have to do with a standard WordPress theme is if the theme uses some sort of custom post type or taxonomy that invoked a custom permalink structure. This theme does not. I know it’s extremely easy to chalk something up to being because of the theme, but understanding how permalinks work, that just doesn’t make sense. You should really look into your setup.

Hi, I am perspective buyer, and I tried sending comment via your profile “contact” page, however my e-mail account recieved a message saying: “please post your support related question in the forum”. I have not purchased anything yet, therfore I have no forum access——a bit contradictory. Anyway, my context is: I am brand new to html/php/website design, but have decided recently to go for my dreams and start a niche website for counseling (helpmecounsel.com). 1) My questions are: How long (in days/weeks/months) will it take to make a fully functional website? 2) How difficult is it to add donation tabs, paypal tabs, content tabs, embedded youtube videos etc., with your theme? I apologize for any confusion, but if you take a closer look at that brief email you received, it actually says this at the end of it:

... And that’s exactly what you’re doing, so let’s get to it.

1) I honestly just don’t know really know how to answer this. I don’t want to mislead you and say something generic like “It’s so easy! You’ll be up in no time with my theme.”—If you’ve never used WordPress, realistically you’re going to have to learn quite a bit starting from nothing, just in general, no matter which theme you choose. I’m not sure how to quantify this into any kind of specific time frame for you. But I can see it looks like you’re already running WordPress on your website, so you must have some working knowledge already of the process, which is going to ease things a bit.

After you’ve installed the theme in the standard WordPress way and then configured your Theme Options page, a good way to get started with the theme is to follow the instructions over on the Item Details page for this product under the title “Homepage Setup”—If any of these things are not obvious how to achieve, you can find the corresponding video tutorials in your documentation. Once you’re finished with those steps, you should have a better understanding of how the theme works.

2) These are all just sort of general WordPress things, for the most part, if I’m understanding you correctly.

I think when you reference adding “Content Tabs” you’re meaning what WordPress refers to as “Pages”—With any theme you use, this is just a matter of creating them under the Pages section of your admin panel and building them into your menu in the WordPress menu builder. These are all basic WordPress features that the theme provides full support for.

Embedding YouTube videos into pages and posts is also a built-in WordPress feature: http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds—The theme supports this basic feature and also adds onto it to make the videos responsive for mobile devices and tablets.

The theme, nor WordPress, come with any feature for directly implementing PayPal or Donations, unfortunately. I’m sure if you search over at wordpress.org, you can find several nice, free plugins to help you with this.

Thanks so much for the repsonse. Yes, this helps tremendously. Can you help me sort of refine which theme I would use according to my needs/desires? My desires are fairly simple. I want to be able to post content in categories like:
  • 1) Basic Counseling
    • 2) Intermediate Counseling
      • 3) Expert Counseling Within those categories I want content to flow in a clear fashion. I also want to be able to do blogging, youtube or vimeo clips to demonstrate basic counseling. That is for the content. I then want to be able to add-in paypal/donation features, eventually paid content, and further, I want to have a directory for un-liscensed counselors to find supervisors either in their area of expertise or local area (which would include a referral and rating system for each supervisor). I Apologize that this is so long, but I know what I want, and I am determined to find the right theme/system/platform etc. Thanks

Well, in terms of any of our themes, these ones are essentially going to give you all of the same things. I wouldn’t say any one theme is going to give you something in terms of what you want than another.

So really you just need to pick the design that suits your needs, which is what a WordPress “theme” is supposed to be (although you might be a little mislead looking at what people are posting on ThemeForest these days) :-). Then, you can get into the world of plugins to extend the functionality.

WordPress comes setup with something called “Posts”—Think of each post like an “article”. Then, you can group these posts into categories. You can link to those categories. These are all types of things you can essentially do with any theme running.

Then, our themes provide various ways you can display different posts like post lists and post grids.

This will get you setup with the structure, and then everything you’re asking about will be a matter of finding plugins. That’s one of the great things about WordPress, is that it’s so large, you can find plugins for just about everything.

I bought akita theme than I made a web site, but I can’t change background color and texture. I am choosing at menu color and texture but nothing change. Could someone help me?

Hello,

Yes you can definitely do this. The theme support WordPress default Appearance > Background screen. And so anything you do here will override the theme’s skin color/texture.

And actually in the next update to the theme a little bit down the road, the skin texture is actually removed from the theme all together. All of the skin/texture background images will be included in the theme package and the user can apply them or something else custom from Appearance > Background.
