I agree 100% the effect loses some of it “awesome-ness” when its the size of a postage stamp. Tablets (7 and 9+) work great it gives you a nice smooth effect and enough room to make it look good and display the information. I ended up just building out a second slider and have it only display for mobile, and building custom slides to get the effect I wanted, but thanks for the insight and the info!

I agree, it doesn’t really make sense that it would produce any kind of behavior different from what was advertised when I saw it was just an alias query for get_posts(). It should work as I typed it, so I figured that at some point a global property or some text-filter was overriding it. Wasn’t sure if that was the theme’s doing.

Placing the query into a variable before using it (<?=themeblvd_get_mini_post_list($query, 'smaller', true)?>) Shows the query clearly as “orderby=rand&posts_per_page=3” before and after printing the list, but lists 15 or more instead.

I am 100% sure this is caused by the Paginated Post Grid I have on the homepage, as it works everywhere else, and when I remove it from the homepage it works there as well. Something is definitely overriding the posts_per_page or numberposts property somehow.

ThemeBlvd

WordPress will obviously only allow for one paginated query on a single page. It wouldn’t be possible for there to be more than one. So, possibly that has something to do with it?

Out of curiosity, have you tried this without posts_per_page at all as I originally suggested? And only using numberposts? I can’t imagine after all this you didn’t just try that, yet.

And I understand the ThemeForest commenting system is confusing, but please hit the “Reply” on your comment when responding so I and anyone else reading later can follow the conversation a little easier.

Bit strange to have to reply to my own post, didn’t know that was how it worked. Ah well, I know now.

I’ve tried with just numberposts=3, source of the get_posts() function shows that that’s moot either way though unfortunately. If what you’ve said about only one paginated query per page is right, wouldn’t that cause the post grid to be truncated to three posts instead? I assume everything is done linearly and the header is loaded first, so that wouldn’t happen, but I’m not 100% sure how this theme is coded.

I’ll look further into the source and see if I can find any mishaps, let me know if you are able to find anything within the theme itself?

Hi, just to confirm my theme folder structure is standard and I find it hard to comprehend this issue hasn’t come up before for anyone whose purchased your theme and has an extensive WP menu.

What is the max number of links (pages/custom/) you can add to your theme Mr Author?

ThemeBlvd

I’m sorry but this conversation is a little hard to follow because you keep starting new conversations. Ok, so this is your issue:

I’m adding a page and then adding another page and indenting it to act as a sub menu and after clicking save, it’s only adding the first added page but it’s changing it to custom thus there’s no link attached.

And so in light of the fact that I’ve basically never heard of such an issue and don’t really know or understand what you’re describing exactly, now you’re following up with this:

What is the max number of links (pages/custom/) you can add to your theme?

This question in itself doesn’t really make sense. Max number in what regard?

If you mean aesthetically, how many menu items can fit into the theme nicely the frontend of the site, then sure that would have something to do with the theme.

But I’m pretty sure you’re just talking about what will save under Appearance > Menus, correct?

And the answer to that is that it absolutely has no correlation to the theme. You’re talking about a default WordPress admin page. The theme tells WordPress “Yup, I support nav menus and here are my menu locations.” —Then WordPress provides you with the interface. The theme you’re using doesn’t limit you or effect what you do in WordPress’s menu builder in any way other than essentially activating it.

So, what we’re dealing with now is a general WordPress issue, that you’re going to need to do some research and solve.

I find it hard to comprehend this issue hasn’t come up before for anyone whose purchased your theme and has an extensive WP menu.

Yes, feel free to search all of the comments of this theme or any of my other themes with using Google, and try to find one person to ever have the same problem as you. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, but I’ve never heard of it, and unfortunately have no solution for you. If I knew what you were doing or what you’ve done, I’d tell you.

As I have eluded to a couple times now, the only similar issue I’ve ever heard of is when people install the wrong ZIP package and then they’re not able to save WordPress’s menu builder. If I were you, I’d first check all of the plugins you’re using. I’d make sure you haven’t done something funky to your WordPress installation. I’d get to get together some more specific information about the problem, as right now it really isn’t all that clear, and I’d post in wordpress.org support forums.

I understand the ThemeForest comment system is not great and quite confusing, but please hit the “Reply” on your comment when responding.

Loving your template! Stunning Work!!! Quick Question? Is there anyway the slider background can be a different color? (instead of the same color of what all the rest of page content is?)Make sense? THANKS !

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

Glad to hear you’re liking your purchase. These types of things that are outside of the the scope of the theme’s options are CSS customizations you’ll need to make to the theme.

For CSS changes, it’s a good idea to use a tool like firebug or Google Chrome’s built-in developer tools to locate them and then put the edits either in your child theme or in the “Custom CSS ” option on your theme options page.

.element-slider-standard .element-inner { background: #000; }

Also, here’s a helpful tutorial on how to use Firebug – http://vimeo.com/20917974. The only thing I’d suggest not doing is actually making edits to the theme’s CSS files, as it shows at the end of that video. However, the video serves as a good introduction to Firebug and how it can be used to find what CSS is effecting certain areas of your site without ever digging around in any files.

I have just installed The Premium All-in-One Event Calendar 1.8 plug in so that I can display calendars on my website pages.

I have it all working except for the shortcodes.

When I create a page and add the shortcode [ai1ec view=”agenda”] to raw text content in a layout, nothing displays apart from the white area where the content would appear. If I add a bit of text then that displays fine but no calendar.

Do I need to activate something to get third party short codes to work?

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

The raw input for the Content element of the Layout Builder already supports shortcodes. In WordPress there is a certain shortcode API that everyone follows, and there is a universal WordPress do_shortcode function that gets applied there. Any shortcode that is added in the traditional way with add_shortcode should work there for the most part aside from maybe styling issues or something.

I suspect that possibly your third-party plugin may be playing by some of its own rules, and simulating shortcodes on the_content filter, but I have no idea how it works, what it does, or who made it, why they made it the way they did, etc, etc.

Try troubleshooting a little by adding some other shortcodes to the content element of the builder that have nothing to do with this theme or this “Premium All-in-One Event Calendar” plugin and you’ll see that they should be rendered. Is this not the case?

Hello and thank you for your speedy response – it is much appreciated.

You hit the nail on the head as I have now discovered the following posting on the Timely website “do_shortcode function does not yet work with our shortcodes”.

I will find a work-a-round or change calendar function.

Many thanks Tony

Hi there. I just posted a question I have on the new support site, but let me know if you need me to ask if here if it doesn’t come through! Thanks!

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

I’ve responded to you over there. We’re still working on getting email notifications to go through properly for responses over on support.themeblvd.com.

I have purchased “Barely Corporate.” When I add a Home page, I get a “Home” menu tab, plus the little house “Home” tab. How do I eliminate the extra Home tab and just use the house tab for Home?

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

I think right now you’re letting the default placeholder function of just displaying all of your pages in the menu bar. What you want to do is actually create a menu under Appearance > Menus and apply it to the Primary Navigation location.

See this video: https://vimeo.com/16685579

In the menu builder for your home button, you want to add the CSS -class “home” to give it the style of showing just the house icon.

See here: http://themeforest.net/item/swagger-responsive-wordpress-theme/faq/930581

When I try to install the latest version of the Barely Corporate theme zip file using Install Themes -> Upload I get the following error:

“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet. Theme install failed.”

Please could you help?

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

Most likely you’re tying to install the entire zip package you downloaded from ThemeForest, but you need to install the theme found inside.

This video will walk you through the installation process:

Can the width of the widgets be re-sized for the Barely Corporate theme?

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

No, apologies, but there is no feature for this. These are CSS customizations you’d need to make to the theme.

Hi TB,

Just bought your theme, great one! I worked with other themes of you as well. BUT a got a few question

1. Can I only make css changes in the custom css section? Not directly in theme.css (that doesn’t work)

2. How can I remove the root (navigation) – between menu and pages?

3. I want a menu ACTIVE color that would be the same as the hover color. How can I fix that?

Hope to hear from you soon!

Regards, Arnoud

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

1. You should never be editing any theme files. Always use a Child theme.

2. I’m sorry but I’m not quite sure what you’re asking? Can you be a little more specific?

3. I apologize, but the theme has no feature for this. This will be a CSS customization you’ll need to make to the theme. See answer #1. —You’ll find that WordPress inserts many different classes you can utilize on the menu items.

Hi TB,

Thanks for your respons. About my second question: at every page (above page title/content) I see a home icon>>page title. I want to remove that. How?

Regards, Arnoud

ThemeBlvd

Those are called “breadcrumbs”—You can disable them from your Theme Options.

Appearance > Theme Options > Layout > Main

You can also disable them individually when editing pages.

Hello,

I want to make my header re-size my header. I don’t see an option in the theme for that. I want to have the logo of the website to be along with the menu items. I am looking to make something like this:

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

I apologize, but you’re right, the theme has no option for this. This would be a customization you’d need to make to the theme.

You could theoretically accomplish this CSS , but it might be easier to re-hook the “themeblvd_header_logo_default” function to be located to the “themeblvd_header_menu” location before making your CSS mods.

Dear TB, I am the owner of the site http://www.irlandaonline.com since we’re using a custom menu, we would like to know if we can use the icon ‘house’ (http://www.irlandaonline.com/wp-content/themes/barelycorporate/assets / images / menu-home.png) instead of “home” as well as in the demo. Let us know how to put this icon from ‘label navigation’ or title attribute?

Regards Domenico

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

Under Appearance > Menus, when you’re creating a menu item, under CSS class, add the class “home”—

If you don’t see CSS -class as an option when editing a menu item, it means you have it hidden. Just go up to the “Screen Options” tab at the top right corner of the screen, and turn this option on.
