Hi there. On my site I wish to have more than one menu. On the page that visitors arrive to, they will experience the site in Norwegian. When they click on an English flag, they will be re-directed to a english page, with a english menu (containing english pages).

How do I go about selecting a different menu for a specific page?

For instance: Page 1 -> Has menu “one” Page 2 -> Has menu “two”.

Cheers Jan

Hello Jan,

This is sort of a complicated road you’re heading down, and there isn’t really a simple answer other than to say you should look into learning a plugin like WPML . By default WPML allows you to have separate versions of your posts and pages for different languages. It also comes with an addon for having separate navigations for your languages.

And after you’ve learned the basics of how WPML and this theme work, we’ve also got a website that will take you through using our free WPML Bridge plugin to combine the the two together for some extra features.

Hi Jason,

I have just updated to the latest version of this theme but am still experiencing an issue…I have configured the home page using Builder to use two wiedgets at the bottom, but they only appear every now and then, something is causing them to behave intermittently…anything you’re aware of that I can use to fix this?

Site is cambridgecityhc.org

Thanks, Mike

Hello Mike,

It’s not that the widgets aren’t showing, it’s that your entire site is dying when it tries to render the Twitter widget. Are you using the theme’s twitter widget there or a third party one?

Thanks for the reply Jason – Indeed you’re absolutely right, have just removed the twitter widget and the site comes back to life! I was using a 3rd party twitter widget, however I have just swapped it for the built in widget and it does the same thing…which seems odd? That said the layout and options of the twitter widget I was using and the built in one do seem exactly the same!

Default-user

*almost exactly the same, there are differences!

Have taken away the twitter widget entirely for now, but any advice you’re able to offer would be greatly appreciated!

ThemeBlvd

There are essentially two ways that plugins can be pulling data from Twitter.

  1. From Twitter’s API
  2. From Twitter’s RSS feeds

This theme uses Twitter’s RSS feeds, and that’s probably what the other plugin you tried uses, as well. If you’re coding a WordPress plugin/theme and you’re pulling from RSS “correctly” you’re using WordPress’s built-in system, which is an implementation of a 3rd party software called SimplePie. What it sounds like (just a wild ass guess though) is that SimplePie is breaking your server. Why that could be? I honestly do not know.

Maybe you could experiment with some more Twitter plugins? I’m sure some of them have to be using Twitter’s API instead.

Another thing, too, is that your server appears to be setup not to output fatal errors, which is sort of strange. You can contact your webhost to turn that on, as it’s a simple setting in your PHP . This way, when your page dies like that, you should be able to actually see the error given by PHP at the bottom of the page where it dies to know why it’s happening.

Who knows, it could be as simple as you’re just exhausting too much of your allowed memory by adding in the heavy process of SimplePie.

Hi Jason, I recently bought this great theme but I have a question about columns.

When I make a 50-50% column my text is all wrapped up in a single continuous box without any breaks. Even if I make a linebreak it will not show.

If I however remove the [raw] tag I see the linebreaks but then the columns (divs) are not aligned.

I tried to add the p-tag in the html tab to have the sentences to break, but as soon as I change to the Visual tab the p-tags are removed.

Is there anything I am doing wrong here?

Thanks, Alex

ThemeBlvd

Hello Alex,

The reason the columns are not aligned is because WordPress is putting line breaks in between your column shortcodes.

If you’re going to be using the Visual tab, you just need to be taking how WordPress is going to apply automatic formatting into account.

Try doing something like this:

[one_half]
Column 1
[/one_half] [one_half last]
Column 2
[/one_half]
[clear]

Notice how I end the column and start the next one on the same line. I believe that is the key to getting it to work how you want.

I got shut down by my shared hosting provider for too much CPU usage. I just enabled Jetpacks’ photon CDN . Can image resizing and thumbnailing processes be offloaded to photon as well?

ThemeBlvd

Doesn’t Total Cache allow all of your WordPress media to be handled through a CDN ? http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/

my problem isn’t space it’s CPU . I want to know if bc’s thumbnail resizing engine (plugin) can use off-site resources.

ThemeBlvd

Yup, I understand. —The Barely Corporate theme doesn’t have any kind of thumbnail re-sizing engine or anything. It’s all done by WordPress’s internal media system, which yes, you can use with a CDN by using W3 Total Cache.

You can’t offload the actual process of creating the thumbnail sizes when uploading an image. This is a PHP process that WordPress is doing. In general, you can’t offload a “process” to a CDN . The point is to about storage, meaning your physical assets are located somewhere else and being servered from there.

So by using a CDN , you will save CPU by the fact that users visiting the frontend of your website are not pulling the images from you server. How much that effects your overall site, I do not know. There are other features of W3 Total Cache that may help, as well.

Can I have unlimited pages with this theme, and will they wrap around to where I will have two rows of page links?

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

There is no actual limit on how many items you can put on the main navigation. The theme is obviously designed with the idea that you’re going to put the amount that fit on a single row, but there’s nothing to stop you from doing more, I suppose.

This is what it would look like as those items stack: http://picturestack.com/922/767/zkOScreenShotn7n.png

Also keep in mind that the theme of course supports WordPress’s menu builder. So the number of items or how they’re organized on your Primary Navigation doesn’t necessarily directly correspond to the pages you’ve created on your site.

Thank you very much for this beautiful theme. I love the new outfit of my blog.

I’d just like to ask if it would be possible to include the Social Micropayment Flattr (http://www.flattr.com/) to the list of Social Media buttons in a future update.

Greetings, Mela

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

I apologize, but this will probably not get added as one of the 30 choices. Hopefully, in the future I can do a in-depth tutorial on how someone might filter on their own button. But I personally don’t think piling on more and more icons into the framework for everyone is the best approach.

As an alternate solution, you could possibly hook in your own button from your Child theme, or maybe replace the whole set of current buttons something like this:

function my_header_addon(){
    ?>
    your custom html...
    <?php
}
remove_all_actions( 'themeblvd_header_addon' );
add_action( 'themeblvd_header_addon', 'my_header_addon' );

So difficult to customize directly with the files…:mad: I lost so many hair to translate few words…

The english words are in the file .po Is there a quick way to change the language ?

ThemeBlvd

You should never edit any theme files. All customizations should always come from a Child theme, or you’ll never be able to update the theme in the future.

If you’re just trying to change the text outputted by the theme this plugin will allow you do to that very quickly: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/theme-blvd-string-swap/

Also, if you’d like to save some server resources and just code in your filter from your Child theme’s functions.php, here’s a complete breakdown on that: http://dev.themeblvd.com/tutorial/frontend-text-strings/

And lastly, if you do want to use WordPress’s default method for translation, known as “localization” here’s a breakdown on that:

===========

In the WordPress world, they refer to translating WordPress as “locxalization” and so this theme comes “localization-ready”.

This is the complete guide to get you started:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress

Specifically to the theme, there is a file called barelycorporate.po located in the “lang” folder of the theme. You download that file and translate the contents line by line. This process will be easier to manage if you use a program like poEdit, for example. That way you’ll be able to translate the file with a user-friendly interface and not a text editor. Then you save the file with your language code in the file name (ex: fr_FR.po for French, en_BR.po for British, etc). When you do this, poEdit will also create a second file for you with the same name ending in ”.mo”. Then you need to upload these two new files back to “lang” folder of the theme on your live site.

In order for the above process to work, you need to actually have your WordPress site set to be in your language. You do that by changing the language code in your wp-config.php file (which is found in the root directory or your WordPress installation). Here’s a guide on that process:

Hi,

is there a way to modify or remove the delay when the submenu (of a primary menu item) shows up?

thank you very much!

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

No, I apologize but there is no feature built into the theme to modify this functionality.

ThemeBlvd

This might be a helpful resource if you’re looking to alter the Javascript file where this code is setup, though: http://dev.themeblvd.com/tutorial/overriding-a-framework-javascript-file/#example-2

Default-user

Exactly, I was asking for modification directly into the js or jquery function that manage the delay.

Maybe you know to do this?

ThemeBlvd

It’s controlled with the superfish function call. Here’s documentation on working with that.

I’d like to put h2s inside [toggle title]s but it’s not working. I’ve tried the following:

<h2>[toggle title="header"]</h2>[/toggle]
[toggle title="<h2>header</h2>"][/toggle]

the toggles are also conflicting with a plugin i use called “table of contents plus”.. ideally, when clicking on an anchor link, the appropriate toggle would roll open.

neither work.

Have i missed anything?

ThemeBlvd

Nope, you can’t change the toggle’s markup from the toggle shortcode. If you’d like to edit the markup for how toggles are outputted, you can find the source function here:

I know I’m going to sound like a shill for your work but I can’t help it. I just purchased this theme for a client (this is latest – I have all your other work too) and I am still so thrilled with how flexible and easy your themes are that I felt I had to come back and post this. AMAZING WORK! 11 out of 10 – seriously. Your attention to detail, intuitive design and understanding of how to make a designer’s life easier…just great, Jason. I’ve tried others along the way but nothing compares to your work. I am a lifelong fan of your work as long as you are able to maintain this high level of quality.

I just downloaded my purchase of the theme. I them tried to upload the zip file through my wp-admin page. The upload failed. It claimed that the style.css file was missing. As I uploaded the entire unopened zip file, How do i fix this?

You’re tying to install the entire zip package you downloaded from ThemeForest, but you need to install the theme found inside.

Is it ok to install a jquery plugin into this theme? Will it muck things up? The one I am looking at is:

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

I apologize, but please understand that incorporating a javascript element is a customization that you will need to make to the theme and this is not included with support.

http://support.themeblvd.com/terms/#help

I really can’t say if this specific plugin will have any issues with the theme, but I’d assume as with any jQuery item, if incorporated properly in a non-conflicting way, you shouldn’t have any javascript errros.

Hi there,

After configuring the “home” page according to your guide, I noticed that the “home” icon on the menu is replaced by a “home” text instead. Please advise on how I can get the icon back on the menu.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers, Jason :)

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

Under Appearance > Menus, when you’re creating your menu, on your home menu item, add the class “home” to its “CSS-class” field.

Note: If you don’t see CSS -class as an option when editing a menu item, it means you have it hidden. Just go up to the “Screen Options” tab at the top right corner of the screen, and turn this option on.

I am interested in purchasing this theme but would like to know if there is a simple way to add a phone number under the logo in the header. not as an image or part of the logo, I need it to be clickable on the mobile version so i guess the number would have to be coded into the php under the logo. Thanks in advance

ThemeBlvd

Hello,

There is no feature for this in the theme. This would only be possible through customization from your Child theme.

You’d just hook your custom function displaying the phone number to “themeblvd_header_logo” form your Child theme’s functions.php
