So much for my Eureka moment.

I cannot get this Portfolio page to work properly. Do I create Portfolio page or Portfolio item for the top layer? If I create it as an item for the top layer of the menu, my Portfolio thumbs work fine, but then I have a slider from one of the items overlaying the top. If I create a Portfolio ‘page’ for the top layer of the menu, then I just have a page of posts, and the Portfolio short code doesn’t work.

I haven’t ever been as frustrated as I am with this theme. I am close to binning it!

Hi,

If you’re using the same slug for the portfolio page and category – WordPress is using category template. So, try to use different slugs or first try default permalink structure (the ugly one).

I created a Portfolio category, then sub categories, e,g illustration, painting etc and created all my portfolio items, ensuring that they were linked to the correct categories.

I created a Portfolio ‘page’ and assigned that in the correct position in ‘Menus’ with the sub cat items below it.

I used the shortcode generator to create a four column layout on the Portfolio page, ensuring that the cat id was the parent category, e.g. Portfolio. It does not render, all I have is a list of posts.

I have read and read your documentation again and again, and cannot make this work. What am I missing out?

Please help?

I can see you’ve managed it out. I’ll put your tutorial to FAQ section…

So, for Sam..and anyone else reading, this is what I did.

Creating the Portfolio Page:

1. Go to the section that says ‘Portfolio Items’ and create a parent category e.g. Portfolio. Ensure that the slug (which will be the url) says something slightly different, like ‘portfolio_cat’.

2. Create sub categories, e.g Photography, Design, Illustration and assign those to the ‘Parent’ category ‘Portfolio’.

3. Go to Pages, and create a new page and call it ‘Portfolio’. Also, make sure the ‘Permalink’ at the top of your new page is slightly different, e.g. ‘portfolio_page’.

4. Go to back to the ‘Portfolio Items’ section in the side bar, and click on ‘Add New’.

5. On your new item page, add some descriptive text in the text field about your project. Then ensure (and this is VERY, VERY important) you add a ‘featured image’ (this is the one that will be included on your ‘Portfolio’ page). Then add ‘exta images, with caption and descripion. Save.

6. In the ‘Appearance’ section, go to Menus. If you have not already done so, then create your Menu and add your pages. Add your Portfolio page from the ‘Pages’ box. It will appear at the bottom of the list on the right, drag it to where you wish it to appear in your menu. Then go to the ‘Items’ box, click on each item you want to be in the menu. Then drag them up to the Portfolio box, though move the item boxes slightly to the right, so they will appear as sub menus on your site. Then save the menu.

7. Open your Portfolio page and use the Portfolio shortcode generator (which is a little icon). You must make sure that in the section that says ‘Category to show’ you have chosen the parent category, e.g ‘Portfolio’, then choose how many colomuns you wish etc and click on submit. That should do it. Make sure that in the shortcode on your page you see the correct ‘cat id’ for the parent category. You can check it is the correct id by going to ‘Portfolio Categories’, hover over the parent category and the url for that category will appear at the bottom of your browser, so you can check that the id is the same.

8. Save page, cross fingers for luck.

Thank you very much on your detailed tutorial.

Only one thing: you don’t have to use portfolio custom post type (and categories). You can use and normal blog posts and categories. There will be no difference on portfolio page, only single posts will have different layout.

Thanks Brankic, I also worked that out in the end. It does seem a bit complicated to me though.

It’s one of those things, when you know how, it seems very easy. But, some people are also new to Wordpress and how it works. I think when you write the documentation, you have to assume people know absolutely nothing and write each step as follows, 1. Open this… 2. Click on that…. 3. Create this..

Also, including as many screen caps as possible. It may seem like a lot of work, but believe me, in the long run you will spend a lot less time having to answer support questions.

Best wishes Lorrie

Hi The background on the home page is not working, it’s working only the remaining pages. And when I’m browsing the homepage, the “HOME menu” is not green (my color theme).

Sorry my bad English. Thanks.

May I see the URL of your website?

It’s localhost … but I resolved that. I think it was some code that I put on the homepage. I deleted everything and started again and it worked. Thanks.

nice theme but I have a little problem for the preview of portfolio images. I uploaded 5 images in one portfolio-item but then if I press on full-screen preview I see 7 images on the list. (does the same thing with the preview on the demo site). It’s a bug?

Hello, I have just started using the template and for some reason the search button in the sidebar is under the search field and not next to in, and in the comments box at the bottom the check boxes are above the Notify text instead of next to it. I have my browser window set wide, so it is not a responsive layout (in fact I turned it off to check that.)

Thanks

Hi,

i have a few questions: 1. Can i add invisible categories to portfolio items to apply them as filter redirecting from the clients page? 2. Can you sort the order of portfolio categories? It doesn seem to be alphabetic but rather by creation date which is kinda unhandy. 3. The preview ‘lense’ on the protfolio items seems buggy, at least on my vimeo items (which is 98% of my portfolio). 4. how do you add all the stuff you had in the footer in the example page? I seem to be missing something.

thx in advance, Xaver

Ah, one more thing. The sliding of the thumbnails in the portfolio section when switching cat# seems to behave strange once all filters have been cycled through it doesn’t slide anymore but only loads the thumbnail. Is there a way to give some sort of reset command after each step of selecting a filter.

What works: all>cat1>cat2>cat4>cat3 (nice sliding) What doesn’t all>cat1>cat2>cat1 (no sliding on last step)

I guess it has to do with preloading the image… I know it’s a small thing but the action script is so nice i want people to see it every time they switch to a category and not only the first time.

best, Xaver

Hello!

How can i move my main menu links down towards the slider? Same position, just like a padding, moving them down. Thanks in advance!

I love the theme – thanks for all your hard work. One quick question about the contact page. I am only getting a map. There is no form on the right hand side. I’ve double checked to make sure that contact form on the right page template is selected and all of the fields in Brankic Panel Contact Page are populated.

I have read the help file as well as the support Q&A and can’t seem to find a solution. Any ideas?

I’m almost done with the perfect website – thank you so much. I have one last annoying question.

On the portfolio grid, currently you have to click on the title in order to click through to the single view page. When you mouse-over the thumbnail, the entire thumbnail changes color to orange.

I would simply like to have it so that you could click anywhere on the thumbnail (instead of just on the title) and have it go to the single view page.

Could you help me out? Thank you!

Hi! Thanks so much for this great theme! I’ve searched through the comments here but couldn’t find it:

1. Is it possible to add a centered title & subtitle to a category page (so that the “Archive for blog-category” line goes away)? If not, is there a way to delete that line? 2. Where can I delete the “Posted by…” at the category-page and posts-page? 3. Where can I change the text in the “submit” and “Send message” buttons?

Thanks in advance!
