Hi, maybe some can help me with this. I’m trying to figure out how to shrink the Featured Posts boxes down a bit and to possibly add a few more. Has anyone else tried this or had luck doing this? It seems like it would be as simple as changing a couple box widths but I really don’t where to start. The boxes are just too dang big. Thanks guys!
That won’t be an easy mod, but if you’re well versed with CSS , you should be able to do it.
cant find the future for showing “entire post” when posting new things on the homesite. Everytime i post, it says at the ending “Continue reading…” ...
I want to remove that and show the entire post instead.
You will need to make a manual edit to the home.php and index.php templates to accomplish this. Look for the_excerpt and replace it with the_content.
I went to set up a new sidebar in the footer and I noticed you used “arrays” to create the left and right sidebar. I was a bit confused on just how to manipulate the functions.php but now I’m even more confused. How would I go about creating a dynamic sidebar in the footer of black aperture?
This should be pretty easy if you copy and paste some of the existing code, changing the name of the sidebar itself. You will then have to add a dynamic sidebar to the footer template (which you can grab from one of the sidebar includes).
You will likely have a bunch of styling to do as well, as this theme is not setup to have widgets anywhere but the sidebars.
I was able to register and add the sidebar to the footer. I actually went so far to create a couple sidebars. All I want to really do is make a single sidebar in the footer with very little styling that will align horizontally across the footer. It will consists of three widgets. That’s it. I’ve searched forums but everyone else wraps their CSS in Divs and they do all this stuff that I try to replicate in the Style.css but it doesn’t work. Just a point in the right direction would go a long way. Also, a lot of bloggers are incorporating footer sidebars. It might not be a bad idea to integrate it into some of your themes.
All of the CSS is contained with /css/screen.css in the theme’s directory. You’ll need to make your changes there.
Yes, the heavy footers with widget areas are very common these days. Keep in mind, Black Aperture is 2 years old. Any new themes I release will definitely have more widget zones, but I won’t be going back and making major changes to my existing themes at this point.
Hi, is there a way to have the who post show on the front page, and not just the excerpt? I have already purchased.
Please refer to the frequently asked questions.
Quick question. Is there a way to show the “review details” without the rating stars? I love having the rating displayed for reviews but I would like to display game details over cheat codes and game previews without the rating present. It appears you coded the box so it would only show up if the rating was provided though. Let me know.
Replied to this via email.
Hello Matt, I encounter a strange concern since version 1.6. The menu theme gives me no more categories. I thought it came from wordpress version but apparently not done it 3 times I reinstal my site.
That is the image of my concern: http://nsa20.casimages.com/img/2011/06/01/110601012710737820.png
I solved the problem). It was just create a menu on the theme.
Hi, I was wondering when we should expect the release of Black Aperture 2? I checked out your work over on Dribble. The new design looks great and I’d love to upgrade to it when it’s available.
I was also wondering if there was any way to add a header ad (729×90) just below the navigation and between the showcase. When I try to it doesn’t jive well. The ad hugs right up against the navigation bar on top and the header background image is behind the image rather than the showcase background image. I guess it requires a bunch of css. Currently I have replaced my social icons with a header ad but with the popularity of center-top ads I’d really like to move the ad to that location. Let me know.
At this point, I really can’t say when/if Black Aperture will see the light of day. I have the design done, but I haven’t started on the coding end. Since it’s the successor to this theme, I want to make sure people using the original theme can “upgrade” gracefully, and well, it’s going to be a lot of work. Due to full-time freelance work and ongoing health issues, I simply haven’t had time to invest in it lately.
As for the header modification, you should be able to fit it in below the navigation, but you’ll definitely have to make some adjustments to the CSS .
Bought the theme today, tried to install it on a 3.13 wordpress install, and this is what I got:
Notice: register_sidebar_widget is deprecated since version 2.8! Use wp_register_sidebar_widget() instead. in /home/heroclix/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3303
Notice: Undefined index: page in /home/heroclix/public_html/wp-content/themes/blackaperture/functions.php on line 533
I’ve asked ENVATO for a refund. I just wanted to post this here for other users to see.
Interesting. I see the notices with debug mode enabled. Everything still functions as it should, though, as these are not errors, but notices.
Regardless, I will update the widgets and push out a theme update as soon as I’m able.
I’ve purchased this theme a while back, but I was wondering if there was a way I could put an Adsense ad near the logo like this guy has on his site http://nokiagadgets.com/
Yes, but you’d have to make some manual edits to the template. In short, you would need to replace the social buttons with a new container for your ad unit, then write a bit of CSS to position it next to the logo.
I love the features and layout of this theme, but is it possible to modify the colors without great difficulty? I’d like to ease up on the black color everywhere.
Alternately, the thing I like most are the three images horizontally beneath the menu that show recent posts from specified categories because it will be a great way to highlight new episodes of my various podcasts. If this theme is not customizable, is there another theme that uses the same image posts feature as in this theme?
I ended up purchasing the theme and am very happy with it. I’ve modified the colors in screen.css. The only remaining issue that I haven’t been able to solve is where to change the hover color of the post titles in the excerpts on all of the pages (home page, blog page, archive page, etc). Since I made the background color of the pages white instead of black, the default hover color effectively makes the title link disappear when you hover over it.
Can you point me to where to make this change?
Figured it out. The color of the hover is actually hard-coded into home.php (near the very bottom).
Glad you were able to find it. You mean functions.php, though. The custom colour settings and the hover colour are injected into the head by way of functions.php around line 700.
how can i change only to new timtub from hand? i have modified one and not change the other.
Open thumb.php in the blackaperture directory and replace its contents with that of the latest version of TimThumb.
What font is the Black Aperture logo and subtext?
Does the theme fully support wordpress 3.2.1?
Depends what you mean by that. It’s compatible with 3.2.1 and has some of the latest features built in – menus, featured images, etc.
I was just wondering how I can shift the logo position over a few pixels? Which file do I need to edit, CSS wise?
Look for #logo in /blackaperture/css/screen.css
Hey guys, where do I go to change the background color of the my site?
im also just about to purchase but am wondering if i can change the colours on the theme
Only the heading and link colours. There are no additional colour schemes with this theme.
