Hi Matt,

This is a great theme! Glad I bought it. I have a couple of questions.

1) How do you remove the ad in the middle of the layout? 2) How do you add in the mini-menu when you click on the Review category to see the different consoles like Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and so forth? 3) Is it also possible to remove the Black Aperture logo at the top as well to add in for my site name?

Thanks so much!

1. Which ad are you referring to? There are no ads in the theme, unless you add them yourself.

2. You need to create a menu, which you can do from the Appearance -> Menu section. More on this in the help documentation.

3. Also answered in the help documentation. Head over to the Theme Settings page, where you can replace the logo with an image of your own, or plain text.

I am considering purchasing later this week. i was wondering if you are going to continue to support the theme in any ways?

As long as it’s for sale, I will continue to support it. I wouldn’t count on any new features being added at this point, though.

Hi Matt! I love your theme. I just purchased it and am getting this error after attempting to upload onto Wordpress:

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

Theme install failed.

Please refer to installation-instructions.txt found in the zip you downloaded.

Thank you! I got it.

Thank you for the reply. I already did everything the instructions informed me to do. The error came as it was uploading to Wordpress. There is no new information. I build Wordpress sites a lot. I know how to upload a theme. That is not the problem. The problem is in the error I mentioned above:

“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

Theme install failed.”

I’m not sure what the issue could be. The theme is most definitely not missing its stylesheet. I just downloaded the theme myself and double-checked. style.css exists for the manual upload, and in the zipped theme.

If you can’t figure it out, I’ll need to take a look at your server and possible WP-Admin. Please send me a message directly with the appropriate info.

All can i say about the slider in this version is: amazing.

Awesome! I debated about adding it for a long time. Glad I did!

Is it possible to add support for custom backgrounds like your Imperial theme has?

Unfortunately, it’s no easily done given the way the containers are built, and how the background images are applied. I’ve had the successor to Black Aperture in the works for some time, and it will support custom backgrounds. No ETA on when it will be released, though.

I agree with the Chunkblower, that should be amazing. But i have another suggestion too. A simple way to change the strings, my website isn’t english, so i have to change string by string manualy.

Indeed, it is a good idea, but not easily implemented. Unfortunately, none of my themes support localization, and that is definitely a major oversight. Any themes I release moving forward will support localization.

Hi, do you plan to make this theme compatible with buddypress ?

No, sorry.

Please refer to the help doc. It explains how to setup Nivo Slider.

Mattbrett: Did your Black Aperture Light theme ever come to fruition?

No it didn’t, but I started working on the successor to Black Aperture quite a while ago, and it sports a shiny white design. No ETA on when that will see the light of day, but I’m going to start focusing my efforts on theme development in the near future.

Thank You for updating the them.. I really do hope this theme continue to sell giving you more reasons to update and add more features :)

And if I have to say something negative id say that I really dont like the slider :|.. I feel its wayy too plain.. A slider with a screenshot at the bottom or the sides and maybe with a video embedd feature wouldve taken this theme to another level.. Something like this

http://codecanyon.net/item/paradigm-slider-joomla-jquery-plugin/full_screen_preview/1991850 Or maybe this wouldve been absolute AWESOME !! http://codecanyon.net/item/jquery-horizontal-image-scroller-w-lightbox/full_screen_preview/112734

Best Regards

Thanks for the feedback.

When I added the slider to Black Aperture, I wanted to use something that was easy for people to implement, and left the user with the choice of how it’s managed. Nivo was the best solution that met all of these needs, so that’s what I went with. I did play around with the thumbnail nav, as Nivo supports it, but I couldn’t get it looking decent, given the huge amount of space it takes up. The slider is very much an after thought, so it’s not as elegant as it might have been had I designed it initially.

Hey! I bought this theme some time ago and enjoyed using it so far. It is really great, good job!

I just whish one thing: I chose the three big thumbnails at the start page. The title and description is displayed on it. You use an overlay at the bottom of the thumbnails, so the text displayed on them is more readable. I would like to have a darker an a higher overlay, because the Title is not always readable. Is that possible?

/edit: And: Is it possible to update the theme without losing style-modifications I’ve done with the old theme?

The file you’re after is called showcase-effects.png and is located in the theme’s images directory. It’s a sprite, so it contains the default and hover states in the one image.

As for updates and modifications – unfortunately, there is no easy way to do this. You could view the contents of the latest update and sort if by modified date, which will show you the files that have been changed most recently. If you haven’t modified those files in your copy of the theme, you can upload them. I would make a back-up of your current theme, just in case.

I just purchased the theme and attempted to install it to my wordpress website (hosted by Godaddy) and it said that the installation failed because the file didn’t have “style.css stylesheet”

What is going on with this and how can I fix it?

Thanks for taking time to answer this question. :)

Okay I figured out how to fix the problem.

I am going to buy this theme but have a few questions. Is it possible for me to move all my posts from a current wordpress blog that is on wordpress.com or do I have to do i manually?

Seemed to only be that, what I can think of right know

This doesn’t have anything to do with the theme, and I can’t directly answer your question as I’ve never looked into it. I’m sure it’s possible to migrate from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress site, though. Google it to be sure.

Hello. I’m having a problem with my page.

When I set an image say 250×500 as featured image, it works great… However, the thumbnails are messed up(They only display part of the picture I want to display)

If you’ve used a theme before Black Aperture (in other words, if this isn’t a brand new site), you’ll likely want to install and run the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. It will go through your uploads directory, and create images at sizes specified by the theme. That should sort out the issue you’re having with the featured post images.

Love this theme to pieces! Just wondering how I can incorporate my own social networking icons rather than the ones that come with the theme.

I figure I would just replace the files with my own but it the image has all the icons in one and I’m not sure how this work when my own icons are individual pics/files.

Any advice on how I could get this done would be great and muchly appreciated! :)

It would require a bit of custom HTML and CSS to fully replace the social icons. As you’ve pointed out, I used a CSS sprite technique for the images, so simply replacing them wouldn’t work.

All good! Thanks for the help. I’ll probably replace it with an ad (as I’ve seen some people doing) and implement social media elsewhere!

Again, awesome theme!

Hi Matt, great looking theme – just wondering is it possible to have a static image on the homepage?

Not sure exactly what you’re asking. Do you want to replace the homepage with one big image, like a splash page?
