Hi Ernie,

In addition to my previous post, when I use the layout editor (in Chrome or Firefox), I do not see the ability to split the 16 column grid into 4 slots of 4 columns each or 2 slots of 8 columns each. All it allows me to do is split into 3 column or full width. I’ve been trying to get to work for the last day with no luck.

I read documentation and notice a “resize tool” arrow but did not see that in the actual layout editor. I also watched the how-to video on youtube (it is waaaaay too fast by the way) and was able to catch you dragging on some kind of arrow to resize the slots, but again, I did not see that ability in the actual layout editor.

Can you help.

Hello.

ThemeForest comments are best used for presales questions, as they’re not optimal for a support workflow.

This is the reason why the Support Forums exist.

The introduction video you saw on youtube, is not an instructional video. It’s just a video to show you the features of the theme.

I am recording a complete tutorial video that covers everything with the theme, and should be released within the next 24 hours.

Please head over to the Support Forums and post any issues you have there. I’ll follow up and will help you out.

Best Regards,
Ernie.-

WOW ! “Really I can do that”. “Oh, it’s on now”. “I’m using this for my own site”. “This is brilliant”. “Theme is underpriced”. My words exactly while doing the two-step.

I have fumbled around with quite a few WP themes, so it was truly a surprise to see all of what this theme is capable of compared to most WP themes.

Backend is awesome and intelligent; theme is elegant and beautiful”. No need for fussy CSS /HTML/PHP editing for a customized look, unless you need something exclusive.

XML import is easy and quick when you follow the directions, and if you have to do it a second time it’s a breeze because then it makes sense.

Backend can appear intimidating initially until you explore the features. No contact with support yet, so no comments. Meaning, the theme is easy to navigate AND set-up once you get started.

Brilliant Work – Beautiful Theme!!! FIVE STARS

Hi,

Is it possible to use the blog as a the landing page? I already have a website but would like a theme just for my a wordpress blog? I do not want the portfolio or homepage, the homepage button will be a link to my website.

Thanks

der

Howdy Nigel. Yes, you can do that very easily with the Layout Editor.

You can do virtually anything with the theme. It’s extremely flexible :)

Greetings! One thing I didn’t see in your live example, was that of just a simple article page – no side columns (on either side) – basically, an article with one column – I am sure this can be done – correct? Also – on that one column article page, can you adjust the margins so there is significant white-space on either side?

And if I wanted, can there be (or do you have a example of) a left nav column?

Also, on your sliders, can you control the width? I saw from the video you can control the height – but wasn’t sure about the width.

Basically, I wanted a “thin” style – with white-sapce on the side – controlling the margins and the slider graphic width will allow me to do this.

Thanks! And much props to your theme and editor – very Nice!

der

Howdy Scott,

Everything you’ve asked is possible, both by using the Layout Editor and adding some Custom CSS (which I provide on the forums) :)

Trust me, the theme is extremely configurable. You can use anything everywhere. Add Shortcodes/Content everywhere, add your own content & images anywhere within your site, etc.

As per the slider width question, this is one of the magical things of Blocked: It just figures out the width, based on the slot in which you drop the slider component. Same thing goes for videos.

So, if you use a full width slider, it will use the full width of the slot. Now, if you add a slider into an X Columns slot, then it will automatically adapt, regardless of the slot in which the slider resides.

Cheers,
Ernie.-

Presale question: If someone clicks on a photo or caption in the home page slider is it intended or possible to take them to another page on the site?

der
der Author

Yes, you can add arbitrary links to the sliders using the Gallery Manager. The slides can point to any resource pointed by a URL .

Hi Ernesto,

I contacted you yesterday via Twitter (@HotShoeDiaries). I have a few questions. 1) I’d to know is if it would be possible with your theme to make the homepage just be the slider all by itself and make it full page, just keeping the same width but taller? Or if you can you make the sliders at least 800px or more in height? I right clicked inspect element in Google Chrome and I think it said the slider was about 358px tall currently.

2) In the portfolio menu under 4 column I like that layout. What I’d like to know here is if I could label the thumbnails: landscape, fashion, sports etc. and then I’d like it to open into a full page slider again once you click on one of the portfolios to view the images. See http://www.chasejarvis.com my friends site homepage. Something like that.

der
der Author

Hi There!

1) Yes, that can be done. Remember: the theme has no layout, you create the layout. Each one of the components that make up the theme, can be used independently, you also have lots of configuration options for each component.

And yes, you can set the height of the slider. Additionally you can control the height of each and every thumbnail handled by the theme.

2) Yes, you can do that. Each post can have a title + excerpt + read more link/button. You can enable/disable these independently and choose exactly what you want to display.

You can disable the lightbox and it’ll go to the post’s link (This is not currently implemented yet, but will on the next update), which should get you the full width sliders (full width that is, 960 pixels, not the entire screen).

Hope this helps answer your questions!

Best Regards,
Ernie.-

Hi,

I have looked through the comments and think I know the answers to some of my queries, but would just like to clarify…

1) Can I reduce the slider to say 3/4 width and have a 1/4 column to the side with content/buttons or whatever?

2) Can slider images have overlaid text and call to action buttons, in lieu of captions? If yes, what flexibility is there in displaying text e.g. wiping in from side or bottom say?

3) Are buttons able to be sized e.g. large column-width buttons in the case of (1) above?

4) Can a drop shadow be applied to the header (menu) row?

Thanks Patrick

der
der Author

Hello Patrick,

1) Yes, you can do that with the Layout Editor.

2) No, sliders don’t have call to action buttons.

3) Assuming you’re referring to the shortcode buttons, yes, there is a full width version of the button, which will expand to its container’s width.

4) You can achieve that by adding some Custom CSS , not by point and click.

Best Regards,
Ernie.-

Hi, how do I get the most updated version of this? I purchased it a few weeks ago, and I have version 1.0.0 installed. It’s got some bugs which appear to have been fixed, but I’m not sure how to find the latest files.

der
der Author

Go to your ThemeForest downloads page and re-download the theme. Then, remove the old theme and reinstall the new one. You need to deactivate the theme to be able to remove it in WordPress.

Just playing around with the demo. Looks very nice. Definitely one of the best on Themeforrest I’ve seen. 1. Does the theme support child themes? Would be nice to make all customization outside main theme files

der
der Author

Yes, the theme supports child themes, but have in mind that Blocked is a bit different from other themes. Since layouts are created using the Layout Editor, and the Layout Components are not part of the template files (instead, they’re part of the theme’s core).

You can use child themes to change the header/footer, and the various sections, such as post types, archives ,search, etc.

Thanks Ernie,

Couple more questions:

2) Is the slider image and/or caption clickable? Looks like the caption is clickable, but just thought I’d check.

5) Can you place an image in the page header row below the menu e.g. that’s the row that on the Contacts page has the heading ‘Contacts’ in it

6) In portfolios, can you have a horizontal menu just above the images to select different porfolios (sets of images)? I appreciate you can have a menu in a column to the side.

Thanks Patrick

der
der Author

Hello Patrick,

2) Nivo & RefineSlide support clickable images, not the Default Slider.

5) Yes, use the content component and add an image

6) The theme doesn’t provide this feature. But, with the layout editor you can create the space, and add your own menu, with the help of some custom CSS .

One more thing. I assume since you use custom post types it will be easy to implement the rest like quote, aside, audio etc….

der
der Author

The theme uses custom post types yes, but what you’re referring to are Post Formats. Blocked doesn’t use Post Formats, so you would need to hire a developer to customize the theme for you.

Hi Ernie,

Thanks for answering my questions. Watched the complete tutorial vid. Thanks so much for making it. Extremely helpful. Adjusting that slider height is built-in like you said and very easy for someone new to Wordpress like us @HotShoeDiaries.

I just have a few more questions that I wasn’t clear about from the video. 1) On the name of the theme page where you have, Blocked., is that a logo image that you created, or just text? Would we have to create a Hot Shoe Diaries logo image or could we just type it in for the business name?

Then 2) where you were telling me earlier in reply to my first post of questions you said the theme has no layout initially so is that to say when the theme is purchased is does not come with those preconfigured layouts for Homepages 1-6, then under the Portfolio tab: one column portfolio, two column portfolio etc.; under the Blog tab: blog variant 1, blog variant 2, blog left sidebar etc. as shown in the live preview?

3) If not, is it possible for you to provide those via the JSON code where you were showing us how to restore layouts in the video after an update as opposed to us having to manually rebuild them like you also showed in the video on how to rebuild the look of live preview? If it’s possible we would really like to have those different homepage, portfolio blog styles available as saved layouts in the theme so we can change the look of the site quickly for a fresh new feel every once in a while.

Thanks very much for your time,

Jeremy

Hello Jeremy,

1) The Logo is an Image, you can’t edit it by point and click. You do have the PSD file for the theme, so you can edit the PSD and create your own logo based on the theme’s logo.

2) The theme provides the Sample Content + Instructions, which will provide you with an exact copy of the Live Preview. It’s the 2nd section on the Walkthrough Video.

3) You already have these included on the theme’s package. See 2)

Hi there,

I’ve been looking around for a template that doesn’t go nuts when Japanese characters are inputted. Sadly, there aren’t any Japanese webfonts, so when write in wordpress Japanese characters are rendered in the default font. This is fine (the font looks fairly decent), but in some cases the default Japanese font and layouts don’t play nicely together.

This is a fairly weird request, but would it be possible for you to dump a bunch of random Japanese nonsense into your template (especially the navigation menu) and let me know if it makes the world implode or not? Hopefully not!

Thanks so much in advance.

der
der Author

I think with the proper edits the theme can work just fine. Using a child theme to edit the theme’s header and include your own Japanese fonts and encodings. This would allow the theme to be used in any language (as long as you provide your own font, which can be used via @font-face).

The theme will work fine for RTL languages, but if you’re going to use it on a LTR language then some adjustments may be needed. You would need to hire a developer to make the LTR conversion.

Thanks again, Ernie! We’re going to take the plunge here on Monday when we return from vacation. Since we are in fact totally new to sing Wordpress for our site I just have one presale question for now.

We would want to use hosting through GoDaddy (since we have everything else through them) and you have two options to choose from for hosting on GoDaddy: Linux or Windows. Which do we need to choose for GoDaddy to host your theme? Thanks! Here’s the link so you can see what we mean.

You can click on Linux or Windows and the options down below are a tad different. If either one will work and it’s just based on what we need as a company then we don’t know still so we’ll have to do some research. The only thing I can tell that changes is down in Language Support. If you choose Linux it has support for PHP , Python, Perl, Ruby etc. and then under tools it supports jquery also. The Windows option does not support any of the above languages except PHP5 . But both say they support Wordpress under the Blogs area. http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx?ci=72787

Thanks for all your extremely helpful lightning fast replies! That is a big part of what sold us. Tried calling GoDaddy support but got someone in India and couldn’t understand a word they were saying when we asked them these questions.

The theme works both in Windows and Linux environments, but I would go with Linux without even thinking of it! It’s more stable and secure.

Hi, Great Theme!

A couple questions before I buy:

1.Can I build a full contact form on the home page to get people to sign up for our monthly email coupons?

2. Can I have a picture cover the background of the site?

der
der Author

Howdy!

1) Yes. The form will get the info to your email, so you can process it.

2) Yes, this can be done via the Color Editor.

Hi,

some quick questions:
  • Colors: one of the features is a color editor/picker: is it possible to pick any RGB colour or is there a fixed set of colours?
  • Logo: in one of the posts above you write that the logo is a file and can be edited. Is it also possible to simply upload a new logo?

Many thanks

der
der Author

Hi,

1) Yes, it supports RGB , HSB and HEX . No, they are not fixed colors, you can set any color you want.

2) Yes, you simply upload a new logo and that’s it.

What I meant originally was that if you want to have a logo that looks like the theme’s logo, you would need to edit the PSD . But, if you have your own logo, just upload the logo you’ve got.

Hi,

Looks good…Questions…

How can I change the font for various elements on the same page?

Is this compatible with WP MultiSite?

How are links added to the slider slides?

Can text be added to portfolio items?

Thanks

der
der Author

Hi there!

1) Yes, you can do that via the theme options. Any extra adjustments you can add these using Custom CSS , also added via the theme’s options.

2) Yes, the live preview is running on multisite.

3) Sliders can accept various sources: Galleries, Posts and Portfolio Posts. For posts it takes the post’s permalink. For galleries, it will take the link added in the Gallery Manager (more info on the features page of the live preview).

3) Yes, you can add text, excerpt and read more button (which could also be a link).

Regards,
Ernie.-
