Quick question. Is it possible to only show one category of posts on the blog homepage? I see theme options for slider categories but not for blog.

WPExplorer

There are many plugins out there that will allow you to choose a specific category for the homepage. Take a look at wordpress.org if you can’t find any let me know. It would be best to use a plugin then to alter your code.

Hello. I see that you can use a regular page as the home page by deleting the front-page.php file. However, is there an easy way to do this and still have the rotating banner on the home page?

WPExplorer

Instead of deleting front-page.php you could just copy the layout from page.php and replace all the code in front-page.php excerpt for the slider.

Or you can delete this file then add the following at the bottom of header.php

if ( is_front_page() ) {
get_template_part('includes/slider', 'one' );
}

Thanks. I ended-up deleting the code for the posts instead and just manually inserting the text for the home page.

Thanks for your help with the text on the home page. Now, however, I’m trying to figure out how to delete the background space between the Breaking News section and the main logo area. But, I can’t seem to figure out where to change this. I’m looking in both style.css and header.php, but just can’t figure it out. Any suggestions?

WPExplorer

I see you figured this out ;)

Okay, I think I figured out how to remove the extra space. But, now I’m not sure what I’ve done as the overall width of my site is only about 885 pixels wide, where your demo site is 980 pixels wide. Any ideas what I may have done to cause this? (The width of the of .grid1 in style.css is still 980px and I have not changed anything, that I’m aware of, that would have caused this.)

You can view my test environment here… http://50.22.42.95/~sirh1/

Thank you, in advance.

WPExplorer

You sure you aren’t just zoomed out in the browser? It looks good to me!

Ugh… Yes, I had apparently accidentally hit Command + on my keyboard while I was on this tab. (I’m using a Mac and the Chrome browser.) Geez. Terribly sorry to have bothered you about this. I do have another question, however…

Is there any way to use the Featured Slider with a page instead of a post? The site I’m working on isn’t going to have any posts at all, so I need to – if at all possible – use the Featured Area on the home page with a post – or with something that does not link at all, similar to how they’ve done here… http://www.sirh.org/NewSite/

WPExplorer

You can easily edit your theme to get posts from non standard posts. Have a look at the includes folder in your theme for the files that are used for the sliders. This is where you’ll want to edit your code.

Is there any way to use the Featured Slider with a “page” instead of a “post”? The site I’m working on isn’t going to have any posts at all, so I need to – if at all possible – use the Featured Area on the home page with an actual Page – or with something that does not link at all, similar to how they’ve done here… http://www.sirh.org/NewSite/

Also, is there any way to edit the sizing of the Featured Slider image? I’d like to make it a little shorter in height.

Thanks.

WPExplorer

Yes most definitely, but you will have to edit your files. Simply change your loops to get pages rather then posts – see the includes folder for the files that output your sliders.

In regards to editing the main Featured Slider on the home page, I found this page from your site… http://www.wpexplorer.org/?s=bloggit&post_type=knowledgebase

However, when I changed the image size to the height I wanted, it did NOT change the overall size of the Featured Slider image. Is there some other file that needs to be changed to make this work?

Default-user

Okay, following up on the above… When I do change line 17 to 345 from 450, it is changing the size of the images – or at least it is trying to change them. If you look at the site now (http://50.22.42.95/~sirh1/) – you can tell that the images are being “stretched” vertically. So, the system has changed them from 450 pixels tall to only 345 pixels tall, but it is NOT changing the overall height of the slider itself.

Is there somewhere else that I need to change the height of the slider?

Default-user

Any chance there is a way to adjust the height of the main slider area?

WPExplorer

Responding via email ;)

Are there any issues with Internet Explorer on the PC? I’m looking at this test site – http://50.22.42.95/~sirh1/ – on Windows 7, using Internet Explorer and the Search box is much wider than it should be.

It is set to 100% width, just as it was originally in the style.css file. And, even when changing this to 300px, it still goes over about 50 pixels. It looks fine on a Mac and all browsers on that platform.

WPExplorer

What version of IE are you looking on? The reason it would go over if you add the width manually is because of the inner padding + border. You need to subtract these because if you are using an older browser box-sizing: border-box; doesn’t work.

Let me know if the issue is on IE8+ so I can fix it ;)

Default-user

Looks like I’m on IE 9. I have tried it without the outline that I added and it still goes well beyond 300 pixels wide.

Is it possible to make homepage full width?

WPExplorer

Oh I understand…Well it really depends. Do you simply want to remove the background so it looks “unboxed” or do you want your site to span 100%. It makes a huge difference.

jwinkles Purchased

Ideally 100%, but if I can just expand the page, I’m fine with still having some of the gray outline.

WPExplorer

Have a look at the grid-1 class, this adds the 980px fixed width to the site. You’ll want to edit this. Then of course do w/e u want with the background. If you do go full-width though you’ll probably want to also change the dimensions of the homepage sliders and the cropping for these images. Also if you look at the entries the .post-entry-thumbnail and .post-entry-details divs both have fixed widths, maybe you’d want to change these to percentages.

What you seek is a pretty large update, so unfortunately thats all the help I’ll be able to provide you ;)

WPExplorer

Great, thanks for sharing!

Graphic-Studio

It was an awesome, 6-8 hour setup (including adding all new content). Basically started from scratch, loaded the XML file, replaced with our content — and viola! I Love this.

Using the Symple Plugin – I stylized the advertising page easily!

Thank You!

WPExplorer

Great ;)

Good luck with your site!

Thank you very much for creating this awesome WordPress Theme. Planning to use it on my blog Geek Limited

WPExplorer

Thanks for the purchase & thank you for sharing your site ;) Good luck!

Hi, This is an awesome theme!!! Quick question, How do you delete the “BREAKING NEWS You can add anything you want here, even add links with HTML check it out ?” and the “tutorials” box on the top and bottom of screen?

Thanks!

WPExplorer

Hey, glad you like it! Thank you for the purchase ;)

1. Under Appearance->Theme options (Header tab) there is a checkbox to enable/disable this section.

2. The advertisements would be deleted under Appearance->Theme options (Ads tab). Just remove the code in the fields to remove these.

Default-user

ahhhhhh i guess i didnt look hard enough, but thank you so much!!!

Loving the design! One question on the Deals Post Type can an expire date be added, so the deal is automatically removed? I was thinking of using this theme as a specialist voucher website…

WPExplorer

There isn’t any built-in function for this. But my guess is maybe there is a plugin out there for adding expiring dates to posts. You might want to have a look on WordPress.org.

Hello, I like your theme a lot. I have some questions. I am a newbie so any help is appreciated. 1-How can I place the “breaking news”(I used it as “Where I am?”) on the right side of my logo? 2-I want to use the menu item “contact” along with the main nav. But how can I place teh form down there? 3-Can I also put the social button on the right side of my logo? I am lookng to hear from you. Thank you

WPExplorer

Default-user

Yeah, sure I understansd. I try to change it from the style.css but nothing’s has chnaged. Probably I am missing sth. Thank you

WPExplorer

Make sure your browser isn’t caching the site or if you have a caching plugin active or your server has a CDN/built-in cache, that you clear this first then look.

Hello, I need one more help about the black color in teh background menu, and the header and the footer. I want to make it gray. My link is www.whiletravelling.com Thnx

WPExplorer

You’ll have to add some custom CSS for this or edit your style.css, there is no built-in color pickers for these areas.

Default-user

I’ev tried to change but it didn’t work, thanx anyway, we’ll try to find a way.

WPExplorer

Maybe a cache issue, try clearing your browser/site cache when making CSS edits ;)

Ahhh one more:( How can I place a subscription via email widget?

WPExplorer

Depends on what newsletter service provider you are using. Most of them have a code you can copy and paste to your site. Generally adding it into a text-widget works well. Or sometimes there is a free/premium plugin out there for this newsletter provider.

Default-user

Thank you

Dear sir, is it possible if you can tell me how to activate the comments under the pages? like about page and other pages. I’ve searched a bit and found code ”<?php comments_template(); ?>” but need to verify first. Please let me know if you can help me with this one? Thanks

WPExplorer

I’m answering your last comment, please look there.

Default-user

Thank you!

I’ve chacked it on the pages and the box “allow comments” are checked but somehow I can’t see any comments. Thank you in advacne..

WPExplorer

I didn’t add support for comments on pages, generally when I have in the past I get questions everyday on how to remove them…Never has someone asked me how to add them!

Anyway it is simple and you actually found the answer…

Open page.php and add <?php comments_template(); ?> where you want them to appear.

Default-user

Thanks a lot! It worked! I am glad that I hear from you faster than I expect:)

WPExplorer

Great 8-)

Hello,

Hope you’re doing ok. I’ve come a long way(in my pace:) ) since we last talked. I have some questions and your help will be most appreciated as I don’t have any friends or network to consult for the following changes, so desperate times:(

1-My page is www.whiletravelling.com . I’ve set my Front page as Static. My front page is my “home” page and post page is my “Travel Blog” page. In this way, does my home page display my lastest posts? Am I on the right track? If not, I’ve also tried to changed my “front page displays” as my “latest posts” from the settings> reading. But this time when you click on the “home” page, it doesn’t show the same page as the opening page. I can’t see the slider etc. eventhough I cleaned my cache.

2-I posted a demo content with a picture but the picture isn’t showed on the main slider on the home page and beside it is not showed on the slider below the main one. I’ve tried to read the other comments on this issue but the only thing I’ve noticed was diasbling the featured image from the theme options>blog. But this also hasn’T worked. Can t be about the size of the image? Probably not, but I don’t know how to move from here:(

I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you in advance.

Default-user

When I click other menu items like travel blog, travel tips etc and click the home again, the content is not displayed. but if I click on the logo I happen to see the content. I need your help to fix this. Thank you

Default-user

I’ve figured it out.

Hello,

First and foremost, I love this theme. It fits my exact needs and has taught me a lot though I do need help with one thing:

I have pages set up from categories (by going to appearance > menus and then selecting a category to add to the menu). I want to change the sorting of these pages to be sorted by title in ASC order. I’ve tried adding php where I see fit and I tried creating a custom category.php file to no avail.

Any idea how I can sort the posts by title? Thanks.

Default-user

And not even 3 minutes later I performed my last ditch effort of looking for a plug-in to handle this and found: “WP Post Sorting”

Problem solved… Thanks!

WPExplorer

Great ;)

Hi, i have a problem I can’t add any links to the main menu of the site, I can delete them from it, but not add it, do you know the reasons? thank you very much.

Default-user

i have started having this problem with the new wordpress update, that when I go to the menu, I add a link, but then it doesn’t save it later. I will try to de-activing the plugin and I will let you know. thank you.

Default-user

I de-actived the plugin, but I have the same problem, it happen with the main menu.

WPExplorer

I’ve never experienced any issues with the WordPress menu not updating… Did you clear your browser cache after de-activating your plugins?

If you want to send me your logins via my profile page I can have a quick look for you, although this issue shouldn’t be theme related at all, because the theme itself doesn’t add any code to this admin page.
