Hi Sergio,

I really like your clean bloq-theme. I also really appreciate your good documentation & support it’s really helpful to customize the template. I’m currently working on my portfolio:

www.florianraphaelpanzer.tumblr.com

For me it would be great to have video and photo content in one post. So for example: 3 photos and then an embedded video. But I dont want to lose the thumbnail image(like in a video or photo post). I already read in the comments and there was one guy who already asked to include this feature.

But I was wondering if there is a walk around you suggest. Or another way to get photos and videos in one post with a thumbnail image of my choise. Even a hint for a hotfix with a little coding would be great, since I want to learn & dig deeper in the HTML & CSS coding.

Merry christmas and thanks in advance for your help!

flo

PS.: Any chance to change the rotating cross on the button into other things?^^ I hope you don’t mind to push the boundaries of customizing :)

PixelMoxie

Hi Florian,

Thanks for the kind words, I hope you had a nice Christmas as well :)

Tumblr doesn’t let you post more than a single video on a Video post, but you can add the embed code for additional videos on the post caption, and add images there as well. Or you could create a photo/photoset post and add the embed code for the videos on the post caption. Look at this dummy posts to see what I mean:

http://bloq-dummy.tumblr.com/post/60906987442
http://bloq-dummy.tumblr.com/post/71662566958

You need to grab the embed code from Vimeo or YouTube and paste it in the post caption in HTML mode.

Right now I think that’s the only way to do it. The next update will let you use thumbnail images for Text posts, but there’s not an easy hotfix to do that ATM.

The rotating cross on the thumbs is a div with a class of “plus”, and it’s made with some simple CSS and pseudo elements. Let’s say you want to display an icon image that is 40×40px instead. You can upload the icon at http://goo.gl/Rtd2nH and grab the file URL from there. Then on the “Add custom CSS” box on the “Advanced options” section, paste the following CSS, including the path to your image:

#portfolio-grid .plus {
    width: 40px;
    height: 40px;
    margin: -20px 0 0 -20px;
    background-color: transparent;
    background-image: url(path/to/your/icon/image);
    -webkit-transform: none !important;
    transform: none !important;
}

#portfolio-grid .plus::after {
    display: none;
}

Let me know if that helps!

Hey Sergio,

This theme is absolutely stunning, and I love it!! I’ve installed it with no problems whatsoever, and the only question I have so far is I am wondering if it is possible to reduce the size of the CTA bar across the top of the page. I tried finding the script for it in the code, but I’m not exactly the world’s best and wasn’t able to decipher where it was located.

Thanks in advance!

PixelMoxie

Hi there!

Thanks for the kind words :)

If you want to reduce the text size for the page-hero or CTA, you can use percentages, like so:

#page-hero p,
#call-to-action p {
    font-size: 80%;
}

You have to paste the code into the “Add custom CSS” box on the “Advanced options” section of the customization sidebar.

I hope that helps!

Hi Sergio,

Love the theme!

I’d like to add a logo to the footer of my Tumblr page so that instead of reading “©2013–2014 TITLE,” it reads “©2013–2014 LOGO,”. Is that possible?

Thanks for your help! Andrew

PixelMoxie

Hi Andrew,

It’s actually possible, but of course the logo image will need to be fairly small. You need to host your logo image somewhere, for example using Tumblr static file upload:

http://www.tumblr.com/themes/upload_static_file

Once you uploaded your image, copy the resulting URL. You then need to edit the theme around line 1373, replacing the following:

<p class="copy">©{CopyrightYears} {Title}</p>

with:

<p class="copy">©{CopyrightYears} <img src="path/to/your/image"></p>

Where “path/to/your/image” is the URL you copied earlier. You can then add some Custom CSS into the “Add Custom CSS” box, adjusting the width and margin as needed:

#page-footer .copy img {
    display: inline-block;
    width: 80px;
    height: auto;
    margin: 0 10px;
    vertical-align: baseline;
}

Hope that helps!

Perfect! Thanks Sergio for the quick reply.

You’re welcome!

Hello Sergio! Thank you so much for bringing this beautiful theme to us. I’m using it on my portfolio for a long time now. My questions are:

- how to make a clickeable link in the Call to Action part? I thought that only by writing and URL, the link was done. But the url i wrote on mine doesn’t work as a link. Take a look: www.solfortuny.com.ar

- Another strange thing: when you go to Pages > Bio, suddenly the navigation appears in spanish and not in english. ¿?

Hope you can help me with this.

All the Best!

Sol

PixelMoxie

Hi Sol,

Thanks for the kind words!

1) You need to type the HTML markup for the URL to be a proper link, in your case that would be:

? new store: <a href="http://www.society6.com/solfortuny" target="_blank">http://www.society6.com/solfortuny</a> ?

2) That’s strange. When I go to “Pages > Bio”, “Tags” and “Pages” still read in English. Those strings are auto translated by Tumblr, but they shouldn’t be different only on that page. You can change the default labels for the dropdowns using the options “Pages Dropdown Label” and “Tags Dropdown Label”, anyway.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers,

Sergio

Hi Sergio,

When I embed a video from instagram the thumbnail does not display on the grid. They post for photos, but not videos. Is there something I can do to resolve this?

Thanks for the great theme!

PixelMoxie

For audio posts and videos other than Vimeo and YouTube, you need to add the image yourself. You can host the image using Tumblr by creating a photo post, right-clicking the image and copying the image URL, then setting the post to private. You can then use the URL to insert the image right below the “fake” title, as described here on the documentation:

http://goo.gl/44AgCc

Let me know if that helps,

Cheers!

thank you that helps! cheers!

PixelMoxie

No problem!

Hi Sergio,

Is there any way to increase the spacing between the lines on the thumbnails when you hover over them? Some letters on two different lines are hitting each other. Maybe the text size could just be reduced by a couple of points to fix this? Let me know if this is possible.

Thanks! Andrew

PixelMoxie

Sure, you can increase the line height to 1.2 or 1.5, for example (the default is 0.8). Add the following to the “Add Custom CSS” box:

#portfolio-grid .project-title {
    line-height: 1.2;
}

Let me know if that helps!

Default-user

Yeah, that helps. thanks a lot! Also, if I want decrease that font size, what code would I use?

PixelMoxie

To have more control over the font size for the thumbnail titles and categories, please refer to this FAQ: http://goo.gl/35umPh

Hi Sergio,

What a wonderful theme! good job! I am enjoying customizing this. :)

I have a question that is,

Using multi-tab function on iPad Safari, it is always reloaded by itself when I return back to the tab which is opened this theme after browsing other tabs even if select this theme-tab immediately. Is this a bug? or I would like you to help me to fix this problem.

Cheers,

Terry

PixelMoxie

Hi Terry,

There’s nothing on the theme’s scripts that would cause the page to reload when the tab loses focus. It sounds like a bug on mobile Safari on IOS 7. Doing a search for “ipad safari tab reload” throws some results, such as this one: http://goo.gl/fVecxH

Someone at the end of the thread suggest that deleting history and cookies, and updating Safari, may solve the issue.

Let me know if that helps!

Sergio

Hi Sergio, I have tested all I can do and I have found something.

No sites are reloading except with this theme on Safari for iPad. So, I have installed the chrome browser, It works fine. no more reloading occur. But this is not a solution. because most iPad users are using Safari.

Then, I have reset and restore iPad. It does not work. I have two iPads (one is iPad mini Letina Display, another one is 4th gen iPad Letina Display), both are same. Finally, I decided to review codes and I’ve found ‘reload()’ code in plugin.js.

if (a.ios) { b(window).load(function () { b(“body”).children().on(“click”, b.noop) }); b(window).on(“pageshow”, function© { if (c.originalEvent.persisted) { alert(“reload”); // insert this line window.location.reload() } }) }

I inserted ’ alert(“reload”); ’ and then tested on Safari and Chrome. The alert dialog pops up on Safari, not on Chrome. That means that the “pageshow” event-handling could be unnecessary.

(p[lz check this out… http://api.jquerymobile.com/pageshow/ )

I removed “window.location.reload()” line, and uploaded the plugin.js to my server. It works fine now. No more reloading whenever tab focused. How do you think about this? If you want to see the tab action, visit http://blog.terrykimphotography.com and compare with other bloq sites on iPad.

Cheers, Terry

PixelMoxie

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the feedback, and the awesome detective work! Looks like those lines of code are from the Superfish jQuery plugin, used for the dropdown menus. The plugin bundled with the theme isn’t quite up to date, and it looks like the plugin has been refactored since, so I will include the latest version with the next update. That must’ve be added to deal with some quirkiness on mobile iOS. I wasn’t aware of it, thanks for find it out!

Sergio

Hey folks, purchased this yesterday & I’m so stoked with it, after 2+ years of having a wix site that I was never too happy with.

I’m slowly editing it and adding new work, but I have a quick question. On my top navigation drop down, I’d like it to say work instead of ‘tags’. I’m probably being dumb, but how can I change that?

http://www.visionincision.tumblr.com

PixelMoxie

Hi there,

Thanks for your purchase! I’m glad you’re enjoying using the theme so far :)

Simply type the dropdown label into the option Tags Dropdown Label, that should do it.

Cheers,

Sergio

Great! Thank you. Finally, is there a way to remove the arrow navigation on the slider at all?

PixelMoxie

Sure, you could hide it with some custom CSS:

.slider .direction-nav { display: none; }

Cheers!

Hey,

Awesome theme, installation was smooth and easy. I’m wondering, is there a way to open links (from the main menu navigation) in a new window?. I created some pages and don’t want the actual webpage to be replaced. Tried to throw some “_blank” but no luck at this time.

Cheers!

PixelMoxie

Hey there,

Thanks fort he kind words!

Go into the HTML Editor, and on lines 1266 and 1273, find the following code:

{block:Pages}--><li><a href="{URL}">{Label}</a></li><!--{/block:Pages}

And replace it with the following:

{block:Pages}--><li><a href="{URL}" target="_blank">{Label}</a></li><!--{/block:Pages}

That should do it,

Hi, i was wondering if there was a way to take this theme and host it on my own server (hostgator) and use my url thewordexp.com with this to turn this into a webpage instead of a tumblr blog? I really like this and i hope that you create this for wordpress.

PixelMoxie

Hi there,

Thanks for your interest!

There’s no way to do that, but you could use a custom domain on a Tumblr blog:

http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_domains

Of course it will still be a Tumblr blog and behave like that, the only thing changing would be the domain name pointing to it.

There are plans to port Bloq to WordPress, but I need to finish an update that adds a few more features and cleans the codebase first.

Cheers!

Hey! I’m thinking about buying this theme. This will be the first time that I buy a theme. How does this work? Do I get a code that I can enter somewhere or do I get a link? ‘m Curious because this is the only thing that is keeping me from buying this theme. (He is really great!)

Hi, I have a question! I would like a video in one of the slides. Is that possible? Cheers, Sam

PixelMoxie

Hi Sam,

Sorry, it’s not possible. You can’t mix videos and images on a single post. The slider is only for Photoset posts.

Regards,

Sergio

I would like to know if I can disable even the build-in mobile layout of this theme? As I like the original layout more:)

More, I would like to change the size and the wordings of the button “Permalink for this post” as it seems too big for my setting.

And if I updated the new version, would all of my customization lost?

Thank you!

Cecilia

PixelMoxie

Hi Cecilia,

Not really sure about your first question… there aren’t two separate layouts, the design is responsive, so it adapts to different screen sizes. You can try that by simply resizing your browser window. If it were to look the same on a phone as it does on a desktop computer, you would be zooming in and out constantly when loading the site on a phone.

To reduce the size of the “Permalink” button, add this to your Custom CSS and play with the font-size if you need to:

#permalink .button {
    font-size: 18px;
    line-height: 2.4;
    padding: 0 1em;
}

To change the wording, do a search for {lang:Permalink for this post} (should be around line 1140) and change the line so it looks like this:

<p><a class="button dark" href="{Permalink}">BUTTON TEXT HERE</a></p>

Lastly, when you update the theme you retain your customization —made through the customization dashboard— and your custom CSS. You will only lose those changes you made directly to the theme code.

I hope that helps!

Sergio

Hello,

I purchased the Bloq theme and am using it to display my personal portfolio. I have attempted to create several audio posts that use files have served directly from dropbox. None of them load. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Can you assist?

thanks

PixelMoxie

Hi there,

Please write from the same account you used to purchase the theme when asking for help, so I can verify your purchase, thanks!

Looks like streaming from dropbox doesn’t work too well. I followed your blog to check your posts on the dashboard, and it’s hit and miss there too. Either the file will throw an error or it will take ages to start playing. Seems to be an issue with Tumblr’s audio player and dropbox, or maybe the files are just too big.

It’d be better if you could use the “Upload” option when creating audio posts (but your MP3s should be 10MB or less), or upload your files to SoundCloud and embed their player.

Kind regards,

Sergio

PixelMoxie

Come to think of it more, it seems that the file needs to be downloaded fully before it starts playing (and they are over 10MB, perhaps dropbox download speed is too slow too), and sometimes download fails.

Hi, amazing update of the theme yesterday! But since I upgraded my site to the latest version of this theme I got an error for the Ajax Posts Loading: when I try to load more posts the button shows me always the text error: “Error Loading Posts”. What I have to do for this problem? ( my site is shotfolder.com )

PixelMoxie

Hi, thanks for reporting that. I was able to reproduce it, it only happens if the filter is disabled. It’s a simple fix and I’ll submit an update today. Please send me a message through the form on my profile page so I can send you the updated files as soon as they are ready.

Thanks!

Hi Sergio, Thanks for your update. I like most new features. However, after updated, I have found a zoom bug on my iPad Safari(iOS 7.0.6). The bug makes the Safari crash when I zoom in/out one or two. Please check this bug.

Hello and thank you for your theme, I’ve been using it since October and enjoy it a lot.

I’ve just downloaded the updated version and am not sure how to proceed with installation. Am I to re-install as if a new theme from scratch? If so, will my customization be lost, or integrated into the new version?

Thank you!

PixelMoxie

Hey, I’m glad you’re enjoying the theme :)

Yes, updating the theme is just like installing from scratch, same steps, but your customization options (color, switches, text fields) should be preserved.

I tried to make this new version as backwards compatible as possible, but depending on how much you customized it, you may need to change a color or two.

Let me know if you need any help!

Hi, thank you for the update. I’m wondering is there any chance that I can make the header fixed? It slightly shrinks when you scroll down. Thanks

PixelMoxie

You’re welcome!

To keep the header the same height when you scroll down, set the options Header Height and Header Height Compact to the same value (140 by default). to prevent the logo/nav/searchbox form scaling and moving, paste the following snippet into the “Add Custom CSS” box, on the “Advanced options” section of the customization sidebar:

#page-header.small #logo {
    bottom: 25px;
    -webkit-transform: scale(1);
    -ms-transform: scale(1);
    transform: scale(1);
}

#page-header.small #searchbox,
#page-header.small #main-navigation > ul > li {
    padding-bottom: 35px;
}

Sergio

Hey Sergio, Thank you for the fast reply. I have one more question. Even when I chose the same color, the header background is darker than body background. Is there any chance to change that? Thank you

PixelMoxie

It looks that way because the header has a subtle linear gradient at the bottom. This will remove the header gradient and thin whitish border:

#page-header {
    -webkit-box-shadow: none;
    box-shadow: none;
}

#page-header::before {
    display: none;
}

Hi Sergio!

Thank you so much for creating this theme! It was easy to install, beautifully made and the documentation is very thorough and helpful for a beginner like myself! I saw you answer questions quickly and completely which was a huge buying factor for me.

I had two problems i’m trying to tackle and i’m not quite sure what to do.

Website: http://com2us.tumblr.com/

1) I went with the Rows layout mode, and some of the post have a gap between them. Is there a way to take that one gap out? If i wanted to set consistent padding between each post, where would I edit that? (Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/RNMehQI.png )

2) I enabled infinite scrolling, however when scroll down to the bottom of the page, it keeps loading pages/posts without me scrolling down further. Is that suppose to happen? I want it to stop where the user stopped scrolling.

If you need further detail or information, let me know. Thank you very much!

Sanoshi

The update is fantastic! I’m very relieved with the scrolling fix.

I have just one more problem! D: Sorry i’m asking so many questions!

When I made a new page, the top navigation bar with the links is too big. At least, the ”/” is really big compared to the text. I tried changing some of the font sizes to see if that was the problem but none of those options changed it back to the way it was originally.

Thank you again for all your help! Truly the best!

Oh! I fixed it! :]

Oh my, this might sound really dumb… how do I install the updates without losing my settings? (colors/fonts/etc).

Also, thank you for this superb theme. I’m still very very happy with the purchase!! :)

http://serenavittorianitti.me
PixelMoxie

Hi there,

Nothing dumb about it. You install updates the same way you did your initial install, copy the new code and replace the old one entirely. Your customization options (colors, fonts, check-boxes, Custom CSS) should be preserved, but if you altered the theme HTML manually, you will have to redo those changes.

Your site looks great! But are you aware that you can use custom domain with Tumblr? No need to embed the Tumblr site into an iframe.

Cheers,

Sergio
