Could you really not make it anymore obvious?
Awesome theme! Just one thing avoiding me to buy it: the loading between each portfolio item takes too much time. Is there a way to remove it?
You can completely disable the ajax via the theme options. This removes all fade in / out effects as well as any in-between page loading. Basically it will become just like a regular non ajax site.
Is it possible to somehow buffer HTML5 Videos, and integrate some loading message ? Through this the video would play more fluent i think so.
Hmm it may be possible I’ll have to look into it. The javascript plugin in use is jplayer.js. Considering that I’ll be using this plugin for my next theme I’ll try and see if I can implement it in the next update.
Or maybe switch the video plugin with this one over here ? http://videojs.com/ – this workes quiet well, has subtitel support and flash fallback. However, overall it works good, but it would be awesome if there would be a way to improve the videoplayback on slow internet connections.
Hey jessengatai,
great theme! Is it possible to change the image size of the portfolio thumbnails to a 16:9 aspect ratio? Planning on using it for a client who does a lot of video production.
Thanks!
Yes but you would have to edit the functions.php file directly. Only 1 line would need to change.
Hi,
Really great theme and am using it for my new blog. I have a few questions though if that’s ok?
1: Is it possible to reduce the main blog width and increase the side bar? 2: Do you now how to centre the logo? I know how to do it the usual CSS route, but I have no experience with responsive layouts and it messes up when you view it from a tablet etc. 3: Can you tell me how to put a solid background colour (for example white) on the container? I would like a static colour there and then a diff background behind that.
Really hope you can help and great theme again, excited to get it live
Hi there,
1. It’s possible but you would have to edit way to many files. And a lot of stuff would just ‘flip out’ due to the template being responsive etc.
2. Hmm, you will have to edit the header.php directly, try placing this on line 75 of header.php
http://snippi.com/s/et5t1xq (number 2)Then center the logo via css. Please keep in mind that having the logo centered is not something the theme is made to do. And could create problems.
3. Im guessing you mean a ‘boxed’ like layout for the site? Hmm, try placing this css code in the theme options custom css.
http://snippi.com/s/et5t1xq (number 3)Again, it’s the same as number 2 though, the theme is not meant for this.
Kindest Regards Jesse
Hi! I have WP 3.5 installed on my server. I have a local LAMPP server on my Ubuntu PC. I downloaded your theme, but I have a major problem and haven’t found any single solution about it on the web after searching A LOT ! I downloaded the zip file, extracted it on my desktop and took out the “Brick” folder (I guess that’s the actual folder that contains the theme). Then I zipped that ‘brick’ folder, and used it as the installation one by uploading it on the wordpress template administration panel. WP tells me the installation went through, but if I try to preview it, or even set it as default and then view my website, only plain html text shows up (the main default article ‘Hello world’ and a couple of other things). There is NO style sheet beiong loaded or anything that looks like the theme that I bought. And it’s the theme that most matches my taste, so I’d really like to solve this. Thank you very much!
Hi, You dont need to re-zip anything. The download comes with a zip installation ready to go simply called “brick.zip”... It seems that you are doing a few uncesary steps. Also as you are using a local server (you’re ubuntu pc) why don’t you try just uploading the files directly into your themes folder. Let me know how you go. Also be sure to download the latest version of the theme which is 1.4.
I did what you told me. Used the zip called “brick.zip”, but didn’t work. Then I uploaded it directly on the themes folder. But still, doesn’t work. Again, my problem is that if I view the website, it dislpays only plain html text (article and stuff), but no style. Also, you told me to use version 1.4, but I can’t find it. I only see v 1.3. Thank you very much for your help. Hope we can find a solution. I’ll wait for your response
Hi Oktoupus I just had another user tell me they had the same problem as you but after they went into the theme-options chose a skin and hit save they problem was fixed. Are you able to try this for me? As you’re on a local server I can’t look at any of your code which is a problem.
Hi! Thanks I solved it! It worked through the method you told me. One last thing: so the squares on the homepage are related to the articles not the menu items? And how do I turn the 6-square view on?
The squares are related to portfolio items. You can change how many are displayed in the theme-options panel > home page
Thanks for everything! I like the guide you provide as well! I will positively rate this theme and your work!
No problem and thanks!
Hi, im getting the same issue as oktocous. Here’s what it looks like http://davidchiapoco.com/.
Update – I just reinstalled the theme and the same ‘no styles’ error happened. However i then went into the theme options panel and picked a skin, saved the settings, and viola its now working.
ahh thanks david I’ll have to relay this message.
Hi – you mention adjusting fade in/fade out times to speed up loading – how easy is this to do?
To reiterate what others have said, it’s the page speed that is making me think twice about buying this. Perhaps you should upload a quicker version too, stripped for speed. I love the design, and this is THE thing that’s making me unsure.
Also, when I select a menu item on a mobile (both iPhone and Android) the page loads below, but the menu doesn’t close. This confuses the user as it seems like the page isn’t loading. Can this be changed and if so is it easy to do?
Finally – what are your response time aims?
Thanks ,
Phil
Hi there, the transition between pages takes around half a second in total. Which is fast enough.
The speeds of the fading etc have no effect on the time it takes to get to the next page really. For example, if you had the entire site saved on your local drive or if you have the entire site in your browsers cache the in-between page time would be like i said about half a second. The reason you are experience slow page load times is either because the server im hosting on is too slow, or your internet is too slow or it could be that you’re on the other side of the world while my hosting is in australia? There is an option to disable the ajax completely, so the site functions like a regular site. But changing fade out speeds isn’t something I would recommend (you would need to change a lot of files)
Hmm, I’ll have to think about the mobile menu. I just endured a week long cyclone and haven’t had power for the last 3 days. If I do update something it wont be for a while as im pretty busy.
Kind Regards Jesse
Hey. The theme looks great but before I buy may I ask if you have a button for soundcloud or if it would be difficult to implement one? I will be using the theme for a record label so its very important to have one. Also would it be difficult to implement a shop? Will the theme support plugins for this?
Thanks.
Hi, unfortunately no the theme does not support sound-cloud or any third party plugins. If you were to add shop functionality via a plugin you might have to contact a web developer to get it properly running and styled with the theme.
Hello,
I have bought your theme yesterday and I really like it. But, I have some problems with translation. I have already translated .po file, but I am not sure where to upload it to make it work. Could you please help me a bit?
Thanks,
Ondro
Hi there, you will need to create a folder called ‘lang’ in the theme folder. So your site folder setup should look something like this:
wp-content > themes > brick > lang
It is working, thanks a lot.
Actually, there are some mistakes. Even after translating in .po file, only some words are translated. (On portfolio page, “Prev” and “Next” are translated only when they are inactive, on contact page “What is ” is not tranlsated and also “Submit” button). Could you please check it?
AHh I see, are there any other areas that seem to not localize? I’ll need to put out an update and I dont want to miss any spots.
Here is the list of untranslated items (only front office):
portfolio: “All” (filters)
pulldown: “Email Us”, “Submit” (button)
contact: “What is” (math input), “Submit” (button)
porftolio: “Prev”, “Next” (when active)
There is another small bug. When you want to put three one-third columns in one row, there are only two columns in one row and the third is in the second row. (I could fix it by myself, but when you are going to update the theme, you may take a look at this bug.)
Ondro
I have found there is a special shortcode for the last item. Sorry, my fault.
Thanks for letting me know all of the non localised areas. An update will be out today with update .po and .mo’s
When will be the update available?
it’s live now
Hi, Your theme looks great! I have a couple of questions before I buy: 1. Can I add my logo at the top, or just text? 2. Is it possible to change the color of the “line/plus box/View all box” thingy? 3. Is it easy to remove the Published date from portfolio pages?
Thanks!
Hi there,
1. Yes you can add your logo. 2. All accent colors (in the demo its pinkish red) can be changed via the backend using the color picker. 3. You would have to remove 1 line of code from the single-portoflio.php
Hope that answers your questions. Regards Jesse.
Hi! I have the six main portfolio items on the home page. I’d like to have three portfolio items on one of the pages of the menu, but I don’t want those three to show on the home page. So waht I’m saying is that on the home page I’d like to se six portfolio items while I’d like to see three different portfolio items on one of the pages. Is there a way? What is it?
Hi, the only way to achieve this would be to hard code something in on your pages (int he process making a new page template), or if I were to create a short-code that somehow let you pick specific portfolio items and then display them on a page. Basicaly – no there is not a way to do this (not with out great effort).
You might have to get in touch with a local web developer.
Hi, jessengatai Brick is very nice. I have two questions. When you click on the link “reply”, the page is reloaded. Is it possible to solve this problem? And is it possible to have the newsletter widget on the Basix’s template?
Thanks
Hi there, Unfortunately the reply button and also cancel reply button cannot be ‘ajaxified’ if you want to call it that. I tried a number of ways to get it to work, but they all seemed to have problems either on different browsers and worked inconsistently. The best and easiest solution was to simply remove the ajax from this links.
There are no plans at the moment to introduce a subscribe widget. Although there are a wide variety of plugins available that do this.
I hope that helps, regards Jesse
How easy is it to add videos? A friend wants this, but they aren’t super WP users. Can you send an image of the backend or is there a video tutorial somewhere?
Is there some type of “return policy” in case it doesn’t work easy enough for them?
Awesome theme!
Thanks!
I was wondering, how do you set up the portfolio to display on the main page?
Hi there, do you mean how do you get the 6 boxes on the home page? Have you created a page that uses the template “home”. The portfolio boxes are added automatically.
Oh, do you mean “portfolio” ? Cause when I use “home”, there are no boxes. However when I choose “portfolio”, the boxes are there.
You’re going to have to send me the link to your site. It’s a little confusing talking about stuff I cant see. Also when you say main page, do you mean the first page people see when visiting the site?
Yup. jeanarousi.com
I have set up the page template as “Portfolio”. When I switch it to “Homepage” the boxes dissappear
Basically I just want to know the difference between the “Portfolio” setting and the “Homepage” setting.
When I say homepage I mean if you create a page called something like “homepage” and then use the template “home” on that page then set that page as the home page in the settings > reading tab. That is the home page that the demo uses and how it is set up. The home page can have any number of portfolio items which is set in the theme options.
When I say portfolio page I mean a page you create and call “your portfolio” and then on that page set the page template to “portfolio” ... that is the portfolio page.
I suggest you go about making the home page the first of these two options. Creating the home page and portfolio page is one of the first things covered in the theme documentation. Please take a look at that.
The difference between the pages are that the home page does not have filters and also include sidebar areas for you to add widgets. Also be sure to not set the home page or portfolio page to “blog in the settings”. Naturally this will force it to become a blog page. As for the portfolio items not displaying when you set the page tempalte to “home” please check you have saved the them options and the number box is not empty. Other than that there should be nothing stopping them from displaying.
Kind Regards Jesse
if you want to email me your log in details im more then happy to set this up for you. But please read through the documentation first.
Extremely happy with the Theme.
Q: Is there a place in the code I could tweak to make each Home page testimonial linger a little longer?
I’ve been looking here: functions/widget-hometestimonials.php
thanks, Andy
Hi andy, the speed of the testimonials is controlled via javascript. The file is reloads.js (in the js folder) and the line number is 370. At the moment it’s set to 5000 (which is 5 seconds). Changing that number will change the speed.
i had the CSS problem at the beginning but i fixed it by going into the theme-options chose a skin and hit save
Hi there, thanks for the great-looking theme.
There is one problem I’m having: even with a 16:9 ratio (960×480px) photo’s of projects, ‘Published’ is the last thing to be still seen within my (full HD) screen. I’ve had multiple compliments, but all noted that it’s quite annoying to have to scroll down éach time to see the rest of the information like ‘Client’.
I could make my portfolio images even less high, but then it would go even past 2:1 ratio, which is not desirable.
In conclusion, it would be best to decrease the huge (project)title/font and/or whitespace above it. Would this be possible for me to do myself? Or perhaps make the whole theme load at 90%?
Thanks! coloredgoods.nl
Hi Blauw,
You would need to have a knowledge of CSS to make the changes to the size of the title. If you ONLY wanted to change the portfolio title size, you would also have to edit the single-portfolio.php as well and add a separate class to the title specific to the portfolio. I would recommend getting a web developer local to you to make these changes if you are not confident in coding.
There isn’t any ‘simple’ way though to do this. another option would be to have the template never go past the size of the “tablet” width. But that would give your users more headaches in not having the nav menu readily available.
Regards Jesse
Hi,
is there any simple way, how to disable “responsivity” in this theme? I have made some changes (non-responsive, obviously) and the theme looks messed up on other devices.
Thanks
Hmm, the quicket way to disable the responsive assest of the theme would be to delete a whole bunch of lines from the style.css in the css folder. I dont recommend doing this though, but if you really really want to, delete lines 1950 > 2257.
ps. make a back up obviously. Thats a ALOT of code to be deleting.
