Hello!

For widgets, is there only one sidebar that remains consistent throughout the website? Or are there two sidebars: one for the homepage, another for everything else?

Thanks!

WPExplorer

hi there,

It’s just the 1 sidebar, but this theme should work perfectly with WooSidebars for having different sidebars for different areas of your site.

Default-user

that’s perfect! thanks!

Default-user

also, say the title of my post is long, so it takes up 2 lines of text below the thumbnail. With the size of the recent post boxes still be the same size as the others?

The thing I love about this theme is uniformity, and I just wanted to see if the recent box boxes will stay the same.

WPExplorer

Hi,

Actually the boxes won’t re-size to have the same sizes, however, it won’t actually create an issue with the grid itself. I did add a script for equal heights to make all the entries the same, but this is added for IE8 only to fix a bug there (can’t clear floats with CSS in ie8 using nth-child), however, you could edit it to function on all browsers.

Okay cool thanks!

Hi!

So I managed to change the background image for the blog entires only, but I was wondering how do I change the width of the content in the blog entry so that it fits well with the responsiveness of this theme.

Also, how would I change the background the pages? Changing the #post alone changes the homepage as well…

Thanks!

WPExplorer

If you want to target the post div for blog posts only target the “single-post” body class:

body.single-post #post{ your code }

Hello!

I using the code you provided, and used padding like you suggested previously. The problem is that the padding causes the overall container to be bigger like so: http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/7535/screenshotofgooglechrom.png

I was wondering what’s an appropriate code to provide padding but still keep the container the same size so it plays nice with the responsiveness

WPExplorer

Maybe try using the box-sizing property:

Great theme BTW, however the Jetpack ‘tiled’ Gallery is not working…

The jetpack feature to layout your photo-gallery as ‘tiles’ doesn’t work. I have disabled all the plugins and still it is not working.

Any suggestions?

Hi there, one quick question… is there a way to display some content above the posts on the home page?

thanks!

WPExplorer

Someone recently asked for this ;) Because the front page isn’t template based you need to edit front-page.php – I need to head out of the office right now, but I can add an option in the theme panel for adding some content above he posts with minimal styling for those that need it.

If you go a head and open a ticket – wpthemhelp.com I can zip it over to ya.

Default-user

would really appreciate it! thanks a lot!!! i’ll open the ticket. and thanks for the fast response!

WPExplorer

I’ll look out for it, just updated the theme ;)

Is there a way to use the front-page.php as a template for another page? I tried adding this to the top

<?php /* Template Name: Portfolio Page */ ?>

but when i selected it on the new page it doesnt display like the front page. I love this theme and would appreciate if you could help me on this. Thanks

WPExplorer

You are on the right track, but you would have to rename the file because WordPress uses front-page.php for the front page always. So if you rename to lets say template-portfolio.php then it should be ok.

However, because its not a page template it won’t get your posts automatically (unless under settings->reading it’s set as the blog page). So you’ll also have to add a query_posts() function.

Thanks it worked all i needed was the query_posts() that you mentioned. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

Sweet ;) You are very welcome, thank you for the purchase!

I’m really close to purchasing this theme, however, I have some questions that need to be answered first:

1) As “pedrogaspar” asks a few comments above this, will there soon be an option to add some text content right below the slider and above the portfolio posts on the home page?

2) Is there any easy way to alter the bg color and pattern? And, further more, the colors of menu links, tag cloud fills, and the caption background and text color in the slider ?

3) The theme mostly works good on iPad and iPhone. However, if you press on one of the posts on the home page, the enlarged image at the top doesn’t always show; only the white frame shows (trunctuated since no image fills the frame).

Thank you in advance for answering my questions!

WPExplorer

1. I will be submitting the update shortcode. If you buy before the update is ready just open a ticket and Ill give you the code.

2. This is all very easy (granted you know your way around CSS) I don’t bloat my themes with built-in theme options for things that can be changed with just a few edits in CSS – keeps your site faster and cleaner ;)

3. You mean the lightbox? I am using a fully-responsive lightbox solution called “Fancybox 2” I’ve looked on my phone and not seeing the issue…maybe you need to just give some time for the image to load?

You could easily disable the lightbox on your mobile device though by simply editing a file and using the wp_is_mobile() test to prevent lightbox from running on mobile devices ;)

Hey there,

I saw a post above asking about reusing the front-page.php file as a portfolio template. Being new to wordpress myself, I don’t really understand your comment about including a query_posts() function. Where do I put the function, and what does it include?

This may not be the right approach for what I’m trying to accomplish anyways, so maybe there’s a better way…

What I want to ultimately do is display the slider on the home page like it is, with the tiles underneath being featured images for pages representing categories. Clicking on one of these “category” tiles would then take you to a page displaying a grid view of featured images from the posts that belong to said category. Clicking on an image here would then take you to it’s related post.

Hope that’s not too confusing or out of the realm of possibility. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

WPExplorer

I do understand what you are asking. Basically you want to show a list of the categories on the homepage and have a featured image for each.

This is actually pretty complicated if you don’t know your way around the code.

What you would need to do is use the get_terms() function to loop through your categories.

And then also add a new field to the categories so you can attach an image to them (maybe there is a plugin out there for giving categories featured images, I’m not sure). Alternatively you can use a get_posts() loop within the category loop to get the featured image of the first post in that category.

Literally walking you through all the steps would take way too much time. So I hope i’ve been able to at least point you in the right direction. Maybe you need to hire a freelancer to assist you.

Alternatively, you can just manually add images for each category and link to them using HTML within front-page.php and remove the current loop in there so the posts don’t show.

Have you thought about adding a table shortcode? It would be nice for non-technical users to have at their fingertips.

WPExplorer

No, and the reason is because there are so many table specific plugins out there already. Tables can be quite complex, if I add a simple table short-code people will simply complain its too simple ;) So best to leave it up to the already well established plugins.

How do I go about putting posts on a page other than the home page? Like in your live preview under the Image and Video pages you have posts displayed? I’m new to WP so I’m not quite seeing how to do this. Thanks.

WPExplorer

There are several ways…

You can create categories and/or tags, link directly to time based archives or in the case of the demo I’ve simply linked to post format archives.

When in the menu dashboard (Appearance->Menu) on the top right where it says “screen options” click on that. You’ll see an option called “Format” if you check this, then the format archives will appear on the side so you can add them to your menu. Of course you don’t need them in the menu in order for them to work on the site.

Hope that helps! And thank you for the purchase.

Hi,

Is there a plugin or something that would replicate the animation this theme “http://themeforest.net/item/board-wordpress-portfolio-theme/full_screen_preview/3621559” when you click on a category and all the posts under that category shift around?

Thanks!

Hey there,

I really like that theme. It’s gonna be the theme for our around-the-world-travel-blog. I’ve got two questions:

1. Is it possible to integrate google-maps to the slider? I use the following plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/travelmap/. It would be perfect, when I could integrate the travel-map short code in the slider…

2. Is it possible to extend the post-entry-excerpt when the post has no feature-image?

Thanks from snowy Switzerland Thomas

WPExplorer

Hi there,

Glad you like the theme!

1. This slider just works with images. Of course its possible, it would require adding maybe a meta option for the slides (functions/meta/meta-slides.php) and then altering the loop (content-slides.php) to test for the new meta option and if it exists show that instead of the featured image.

2. This would be very simple. Have a look at functions.php line 162:

/**
* Change excerpt length
* @since 1.0
*/
function wpex_custom_excerpt_length( $length ) {
    return 17;
}
add_filter( 'excerpt_length', 'wpex_custom_excerpt_length', 999 );

Change to:

/**
* Change excerpt length
* @since 1.0
*/
function wpex_custom_excerpt_length( $length ) {
    global $post;
    if (has_post_thumbnail( get_the_ID($post) ) ) {
        return 17;
    } else {
        return 1000;
    }
}
add_filter( 'excerpt_length', 'wpex_custom_excerpt_length', 999 );

And of course change the values to what you want (1000 would be ridiculous, but easier to see if its working at first).

thanks for the purchase!

Hi,

When inside a post, is it possible to change the post container to have a different background like this: http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/5247/testzo.jpg

The new texture is like paper with a drop shadow. If this is possible, how will it affect the responsive feature of this theme? Is there a technique as to how to create a background that is suitable for responsive layouts?

Thanks!

WPExplorer

Hi there,

You would need to use CSS for this…example:

#post{ background: url(YOUR CUSTOM BACKGROUND); }

But you’ll want to add some padding to the post div to get that look you showed me. Adding some padding though will increase the width of this area, so you would either have to increase the width of the main wrapper or decrease the width of the #post div and adjust the width of the entries so you can still fit 3 across (better option, and better for responsiveness)

Hope that helps!

Default-user

Hi,

Thanks for the great advice. I’m wondering though, does my custom background need to be in a particular shape or form (ie: a strip that will be duplicated across the screen like a tiled pattern)... or can it just be a whole sheet of paper.

If it’s the whole sheet of paper, will it be squished when the window is resized?

WPExplorer

I think the ideal way for you to set it up is not as a background image for the whole container since you only really need it for the top torn paper look.

Rather give the #post a background a color then use the :before selector to place the torn paper background at the top.

For the shadow, you can use CSS3 to apply it.

You could hire a freelancer maybe to assist you? They could tell you right away if it would be a quick/cheap modification.

Default-user

Hi, if I sent you a template as to how I want this theme to be customized, would you be able to give me a quote? thanks

Unfortunately I don’t do any custom work. Starting up some new businesses and don’t have the time. Plus, I’m really really expensive (for most people), you can probably find someone cheaper ;)

Haha alright! thanks anyway

Hello, Before purchasing, I wanted to see if you know if this theme would be compatible with a membership plugin such as s2member? I already purchase a theme that does not work with the plugin.

WPExplorer

Unfortunately I don’t know since I’ve never used that membership plugin. There shouldn’t be any conflicts with the theme (the theme is well coded) if there is a conflict its probably going to be plugin related.

Default-user

Okay my other question is.. is there a way to make the background a slider? This is the site I am working on but the theme does not work with the plugin so am trying to find something that will come close to the layout and look.

Hi,

We’re very impressed with Bulletin! Just a quick question. We’ve tried a number of widgets in the sidebar – including Social Stickers. Despite setting the image size to 32 pixels in the plugin, the theme seems to resize the image in the sidebar to 128 pixels.

Any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Halie

WPExplorer

Hi Halie,

Glad you like the theme!

I tried the plugin locally and couldn’t get it to work. I’m guessing its a plugin issue, when I activated the plugin with debug mode turn on there are a ton of errors that popup.

http://www.wpexplorer.me/premium/bulletin/files/2013/01/sticker-errors.png

If you have another plugin causing issues and can show me the URL it would be much more helpful. In the case with stickers there was no CSS conflicts or anything, the option appeared to just not work for me.

I really like the look of them theme and everything. But I have a problem I hope you can help me with. When I use the code [symple_column size=”one-third” position=”third”]

It won’t put the text in the third column, but it stays in the second column.

If I use [symple_column size=”one-fourth” position=”third”] It puts the text in the third column, but now it thinner then the other two columns.

WPExplorer

For the last column use [symple_column size=”one-third” position=”last”] – have a look on the doc site: http://www.wpexplorer.me/symple-shortcodes/parameters/
