Dream-Theme

hey,

Theme can be fully translate with plugins like this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/codestyling-localization/

> This one is responsive?

I will answer with the question, if you do not mind:) How do you understand the “responsive” term. And why “responsiveness” is so important/unimportant?

Default-user

“Responsive” as if is fully compatible with iPad and smartphones. That’s very important to me. Thanks!

Dream-Theme

Cardamon was developed to be browsed from iPad effortlessly.

But on handsets you will have to zoom in/out. Also javascript is heavyweight and can lag noticeably on older smartphones.

As two other members have already asked questions about “responsive design” and received the same reply, I will just reply rather than ask the same question…

From “Dream-Theme”: “I will answer with the question, if you do not mind:) How do you understand the “responsive” term?”

My Reply: “Essentially “responsive” means that it uses Cascading Style Sheets 3 (CSS3) media queries. Often a fluid proportion-based grids system is employed that adapts the layout to the browser viewport of the device being used.

As a result, users across a broad range of devices and browsers (mobile and non-mobile alike) have access to a single source (not multiple different sites) of content, laid out so as to be easy to read and navigate with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling regardless of device input methods (keyboard, mouse, touchscreen, etc).

From “Dream-Theme”: “Why “responsiveness” is so important?”

It’s very requested. Why is it so often requested? People don’t want to maintain multiple sites. Even if the site looks good on PCs / Macs, it may not on the iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, etc.

Other questions you didn’t but may have wanted to / will ask:

“Isn’t pinching and zooming good enough?”

No. Forcing visitors to pinch / zoom makes the web developer seem out of date, lazy or both in my opinion in comparison to many other sites on the web. Visitors “do” have expectations for new sites. The visitor will judge the site no matter what whether justified or not.

“You don’t really understand why you want responsive design but rather just because it’s popular / trendy, right?”

Um, no. Perhaps some might be able to say as much but not I. While an oversimplification…It’s all about supporting the plethora of mobile devices out there. Supporting multiple browsers on PCs / Macs is no longer enough from my point of view.

Let me close with, a well done theme like this needs well done mobile support. :-)

Hi,

Thank you so much for your reply and for the time you spent on it. I really appropriate it!

If you don’t mind I’ll explain why I was asking users about “what the responsiveness is, and why it’s good/bad”.

Actually I’m always asking this when I’m getting a question “is it responsive?”.

People are always answering what it is but very seldom what’s it all about

You are absolutely right! “[...]content, laid out so as to be easy to read and navigate with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling regardless of device input methods[...]”

Actually we spent hours and hours of work to dedicatedly test Cardamon WP on tablet browsers. And you know what, it is designed to be manipulated without zooming and minimal scrolling only with one hand!

So is it “responsive”? No.

Is it meets purposes of “responsiveness”, usability? Is it convenient to use? YES !

On handsets it is not as convenient basically because of the need to zoom in and heavy weight javascript. But I can assure you, we are working on it.

Now lets take a look at “responsive” templates here on theme forest. Most of theme are: clones with no design at all; you can not individualize them – they’ll remain faceless. And let’s be honest, they are not responsive. This is fake responsiveness to fool buyers Why? Here’s a great article: http://www.webdesignshock.com/responsive-design-problems/

Apple releases retina-products. Soon all vendors will do the same (it’ll be fun to see windows on retina, btw:) ). You know what can enable real, true responsiveness? Here’s what: http://html5doctor.com/html5-adaptive-images-end-of-round-one/ ...this and bunch of other technologies that will allow to serve truly optimized content for different devices.

Madness that now goes on around fake responsiveness soon will burst like a bubble. And we do not want to fool buyer with it. We do not want to create something that looks like crap, works like crap and sells like crap

As soon as we’ll be able to release REAL responsive template – we’ll do that. It requires lots of investment to study and deploy (you need to actually own all that bunch of devices with different resolutions and PPIs). But we have an “Elite” author badge not by accident. Our business is not whole above money. It’s about great products and happy customers.

Dream-Theme replied… “Let’s be honest, they are not responsive. This is fake responsiveness to fool buyers”

If you truly believe the others vendors here have implemented responsiveness into their designs to “fool” buyers (among other reasons) then you may as well accuse all vendors of intentionally deceiving buyers too. I think you potentially misrepresent all vendors here but saying such things.

In my view, they are indeed “responsive” IMO even if they aren’t 100% true responsive designs (or “fake” as you say). I’ll take a “fake” responsive design over a “fixed” one any day. Does every site need to be responsive? No. It’s just a preference. I believe that modern themes should give a choice (responsive or not) as many themes already do. However, that’s merely a suggestion and my opinion.

Here’s an analogy (however good, relevant or neither)...

There are 3G mobile devices here in the US and there are 4G ones too. Many of the 4G devices are NOT really 4G. They’re more like 3.5G. So you could say they’re “fake” 4G. Does that mean I prefer the 3G to 4G because it’s fake? Heck, no! I’ll gladly take a “fake” 4G mobile device over a 3G device any day.

Then there’s plenty of people don’t use or want anything to do with a Smartphone that does 3G / 4G. That’s fine too. Not everyone has to use a smartphone, 3G or 4G. Use a non-smart phone or even a computer without a broadband connection. It’s all about choice. There’s certainly still a market for both people who want mobile devices / responsive designs and people who want nothing to doing with mobile devices / prefer browsing on the computer alone.

Dream-Theme

hey, I was not saying this! “most” is not equivalent to “all”.

However, you can check TF forums – there you will find lots of threads that today TF quality standards gone very low. And many “new” themes are clones or rip-offs.

I have little respect for individuals who’s ripping-off and clonning something and then jumping into ThemeForest in hope of quick and easy money. such themes tend to have low sales, poor buyer support, and are washing out sales of ones that they are copying.

I have nothing against “responsive” itself. There are very good themes from authors who care about quality. But I’m against avalanche of rip-offs, clones and crap-themes.

The more low quality themes with tag “responsive” we are getting here, the faster this trend will discredit itself and collapse.

Please, visit marketplace forums – you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

One of the best carousel sliders I’ve seen. Good luck it’s to bad the themes are now at $35 because sales have slowed down on this site.

Dream-Theme

To tell the truth, I’d be glad myself if price was $35… :)

Hi, very nice.

Before I purchase, I need to know if I’ll be able to load hundreds of portfolio items and have infinite scroll or paginate so they load easily.

Also – please explain how your “featured portfolio” items are determined. I would love the ability to have more relational type control of sorting & filtering portfolio items than most themes seem able to offer.

Thanks, Garrett

Dream-Theme

Hi,

Before I purchase, I need to know if I’ll be able to load hundreds of portfolio items and have infinite scroll or paginate so they load easily.

Pagination was designed to handle huge amounts of portfolio projects (and photos, albums, etc). Moreover it is powered by ajax (with the requirements of SEO in mind), so your visitors will not have to wait while all page reloads.

Also – please explain how your “featured portfolio” items are determined. I would love the ability to have more relational type control of sorting & filtering portfolio items than most themes seem able to offer.

Portfolio projects have categories. In each Portfolio Project you can enable displaying related Projects by Categories (from the same category or from other category(s)):

Dream-Theme

Sorry, I misunderstood you. Featured projects (in visual shortcodes and widgets) can be determined by categories:

Great template! And keep the fight against responsive themes :P Since there is an advantage in it but not nearly enough as people blow it up here. Since there is a major issue with the content structure braking down to show on the devices, and about pinching and zooming it isn’t any less annoying then scrolling and drop down menus when it brakes down and makes the page horribly long. The responsive templates in my opinion is only good for phones that do not have touch support. and that will pass. I don’t even want to start of marketing aspect on visible content.

Again amazing template, very powerful! Good luck with sales!

Congrats on an awesome theme with bountiful options.
And I have just one question. Am I able to use my own skin/background ?
As I have a client who has a hair salon and I’d like to use a different image to any that you have here as the background/skin.
Thanks.

Dream-Theme

Thanks!

Am I able to use my own skin/background ?

Sure! You can upload images for your custom backgrounds/patterns.

BTW , you can watch a screencast where our designed is building a new custom skin from sliced images in less than 5 minutes! It’s quite impressive: http://www.screenr.com/NdG8

WindyCityFella

Awesome. Thanks for the quick reply.
Just one other question. Could I add my own (purchased) parallax slider to the home page or other pages as I see that you have an option for a parallax background but not for a slider (unless I missed it).
Thanks.

Dream-Theme

We can not guarantee compatibility with third-party sliders: Cardamon is a big theme and has complicated layout and javascript – there’s a possibility for some css or js conflicts. I can recommend to experiment with it only if you feel very confident with CSS and Javascript.
