Hi Brian, Love the theme, we are really taking off with it. One minor issue is we had a scheduled post just now, and it posted fine like it was supposed to by itself; however, it did not show at the top of the recent posts on the front page. It ended up as the 3rd post down. The dates are listed. I don’t know how to Sort the posts so that the Most recent shows at the top.—www.bokehbrothers.com

I have made an adjustment to the code as you specified on the first page of these comments in order to show all posts in the recent post area regardless of them showing up in the Sticky or Featured area.

<?php //$ids = array_merge($featured_ids, $popular_ids, $sticky); // merge all used IDs into one array ?>

In looking at it again, it is the sticky post that are staying at the very top and the new post is falling in bellow those 2. So, I think I have identified the problem as the Stickies are remaining sticky at the top of the recent posts area. Is there anyway to change this behaivor? Either to have the sticky post really not stick in Recent posts, or Have another tag type so the posts show in the Sticky panel? or,, perhaps I just need to change the code again so that Featured post show in recent along with the rest, but not have Stickies show. I hope the code you showed had that option.

Thanks

Chris

Glad you like the theme – your blog is looking nice!

It is possible to remove the sticky posts from the recently added section but include all of the other posts. Open the index.php file and locate line #64. It should look like this:

&lt;?php $ids = array_merge($featured_ids, $popular_ids, $sticky); // merge all used IDs into one array ?&gt;

Change that line to this:

<?php $ids = array_merge($sticky); // merge all used IDs into one array ?>

This will exclude ONLY sticky posts. Let me know if that doesn’t work for you.

Thanks, Brian

Hi Brian,

First off, thanks for the amazing theme. It is very user friendly and the design is flawless!

I was wondering two things. Can I remove the popular posts panel? Also I wanted to change the post date that appears next to the post. I am using this site for event listings and I would like to put the event date in that space.

Thank you again!

Thanks for the purchase and kind words!

Those two changes are possible, but will require some modification to the markup and style which I could do for you at our regular hourly rate – probably wouldn’t take too long. If you want to do it yourself and have specific questions, let me know. Or, if you want me to take care of it for me, let me know that too.

Thanks, Brian

Thanx Brian, I ended up revisiting the first page of these comments and applying the two commenting functions you have for popular and featured and removed the one I had for ‘all’. This works the same, I’m sure, as what you just listed. Yes now it works as desired and all is good. The only thing I want to add now is the drop down menus for the categories list. I know it’s been brought up before and you said it was fairly easy,, so,, here I go! Cross your fingers.

IndustrialThemes

Glad you got it working!

I’ve had one customer pay me to add that functionality for them and another customer figure it out on their own. Let me know if you need my services for the dropdowns – good luck!

Hi Brian,

The theme is great! The only problem I’m having is adding and removing widgets, for some reason I cannot click and drag them over from the widget pane to the places I want them to go. For the sidebar I can load up another theme move the widgets and switch back, but I’m at a loss on how I can change the footer without hardcoding? Any thoughts or similar issues?

Thanks!

Mike

Mike,

No, you’re up to date. I just downloaded Caulk from ThemeForest and installed it on a fresh Wordpress install and the widgets worked for me without a problem. What version of Wordpress are you using? I’m not sure why it’s not working for you. Maybe you had an error with your Caulk upload and install. Try a fresh copy and see what happens. Also, disable all your plugins to make sure one of them isn’t causing an error.

thanks, Brian

I feel stupid to say it, but it was a plugin conflict.

You had mentioned in a previous post that you had added drop downs to the categories / pages menus. I managed to get it working for the pages, but the category drop downs get interrupted by the main featured slider. Is this an issue you had?

Thanks,

Mike

IndustrialThemes

The way I’ve had to do it before is change the “overflow” property on the category menu container. Right now it’s set to “hidden” so that categories that do not fit in the header don’t break the look of the theme – they just stay hidden. The downside is that this hides drop downs (they stay hidden as well since they’re in the same container). You have to change the overflow property to enable the drop downs. Make sense?

I just wanted to note that Brian put in HOURS helping me – novice- get Caulk up and running properly. Thanks

I’m having trouble getting thumbnails to show up on the preview panes off all blog posts. Can you help identify the problem?

Brian,

Have the new theme up and it looks great.

On Featured Article in FireFox there is no mouse over happening. IE if fine. Checked some other sites listed in discussion items and it seems to work on their blogs … any ideas?

Also when I increase Popular post to show 9 only 6 display and it looks like the titles are superimposed on 3 of the initial 6.

Lastly, I had Odiogo listen plugin installed which created a conflict in FF but worked ok in IE. Any fix known for this conflict?

Thanks

Clayton

IndustrialThemes

Hi Clayton,

What version of Firefox are you using? What is your URL so I can take a look?

Also, I do not know what the conflict with the Odiogo plugin is – I have not had anyone else have the problem. There was someone else with a different plugin conflict, but it wasn’t Odiogo. If I find out anything I will let you know.

Thanks, Brian

Brian,

Thanks for quick reply.

It is FF 3 .6. http://blog.salesopedia.com/

The social networking icons are not showing under Share and Enjoy on the feature post spot – is there a way to remove Share and Enjoy?

Also I’ve discovered if I put a podcast in the featured post spot, for what ever reason it attaches the most current podcasts MP3 file – for now I’ve removed all the podcasts from sticky or featured spots.

Clayton

IndustrialThemes

So you have a plugin that is displaying the Share and Enjoy links, and you want them to not display in the featured area?

Correct – no point showing just the title and no icons.

Brian,

I just figured out how to remove ‘Share and enjoy’ off home page – that was what creating the conflict with the ‘mouse over’ not working on thumbnail and ‘continue reading’ – so that is all working now.

Still can’t get more than 6 popular posts to show without the titles superimposing, and can’t figure out why the MP3 files aren’t attaching to correct podcast on featured spot.

Other than that it’s looking great.

Clayton

Brian, Got the MP3 displaying properly – conflict with plug in. Down to the popular posts issue – will need your insights on that one. Clayton

Hi Brian, I want to make some modification to the Share Box in the posts, I want to replace the DIGG link to a function installed in the WP-email plug in to send the post via mail, I´am not very clever in coding, so can you help me with the code I have to change for do this. I´ve just added the code in single post.php and it works, (check it: deleteall.com.mx) but I want to add it to the Share Box. I have to change of course the icon but thats just replacing the image. Thanks in advance.

IndustrialThemes

You need to modify code in single.php around lines #105 – #109.

When I set 6 or more in “Caulk options” for number of popular posts to rotate, first 6 are overlapping. How can I fix this? Please help!

IndustrialThemes

Hey, you found a bug that no one else has found yet – congratulations!

Open up the strapline.php file and locate line #81. Replace it with this:

if ($postcount == 3 || $postcount == 6 || $postcount == 9) { ?>

That should do the trick. I am going to update the Caulk theme files on ThemeForest so no one else experiences this same problem. Thanks again!

I did it as you showed. There is still a bug of not showing anything at last slide. I set rotate = yes and number of posts = 6 and 3 seconds for each slide

Hi Brian! Just purchased your theme a few hours ago. Very nice and clean. LOVE IT . Am having several issues with it, however.

I figured out the thumbnail problem in reading through the comments and the FAQ … just need to go thru several an re-save. No problem.

My sidebar and footer do not show up at all. Gone. Not sure why, unless it is a conflict with one of my plugins… ??

Which also is causing the Recently Added section to not look right in the background…

The fonts are all funky and too large that it makes the featured posts lose the “continue reading” ... I attempted to make them all a little smaller, but I’m certain you created it so it would work perfectly… for some reason mine is not and I can’t get it to work.

Now that I’ve installed your theme and re-saved some posts and fixed thumbs, my old theme looks broken. So switching back until this is fixed looks awful.

Tried to install while everyone was asleep, but now kinda stuck. Please help. Hoping I’m not being too presumptuous, I’ve sent you a login/pw to my site via email.

I’m leaving the old theme “on” for now. Got to get to bed. Thanks so much.

klosterpink

how to remove thumbnail from post page? it creates duplicate and throws the page off. thanks!

IndustrialThemes

Open the single.php page and locate the following code:

<div class="panel_left"> &lt;?php if(get_post_meta($post->ID, "thumbnail", $single = true) == "") { $picture='images/picture.jpg'; } else { $picture = get_post_meta($post->ID, "thumbnail", $single = true); } ?&gt; <a class="thumbnail" href="&lt;?php echo get_permalink($postid); ?&gt;" title="&lt;?php the_title(); ?&gt;"><img src="&lt;?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?&gt;/timthumb/timthumb.php?src=&lt;?php echo $picture ?&gt;&amp;h=160&amp;w=160&amp;zc=1');" alt="&lt;?php the_title(); ?&gt;" /></a> tagged: &lt;?php the_tags('', ', ', ''); ?&gt;<br /><br /> </div>

That displays the thumbnail and the tags underneath it. If you delete the entire block you will be getting rid of the thumbnail and the tags. You can move the tags to another part of the page if you want to retain them:

&lt;?php the_tags('', ', ', ''); ?&gt;

Or you can leave them where they are and only delete the actual thumbnail part:

<a class="thumbnail" href="<?php echo get_permalink($postid); ?>" title="<?php the_title(); ?>"><img src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/timthumb/timthumb.php?src=<?php echo $picture ?>&amp;h=160&amp;w=160&amp;zc=1');" alt="<?php the_title(); ?>" /></a>

So let me get this straight – before you replaced the “picture.jpg” image, what was happening to all of your old posts without thumbnails? Were they broken links or were they displaying the picture.jpg image as the thumbnail images? This info will help me in my future troubleshooting.

Thanks! Brian

klosterpink

thanks, that was very helpful.

no, they showed your picture.jpg—the broken links reference was to the old site that was LIVE while i slept.

just a a side note, however, the picture.jpg that you provide looks more like something might be missing, rather than an image of something. that’s why i posted the tip. replace the picture.jpg with something that has purpose related to your site and people will at least know you meant to put that there instead of a blank picture.

hi brian. site looking great thanks to you!

question… in the excerpts (featured and body) before it adds “continue reading”... if the content is shorter than the maximum allowed amount of words/characters, the post includes junk at the end (such as the coding for “Share This” or the “tags” if they’ve been moved below) instead of recognizing that the post text has ended. ever notice that? and any ideas how can this be resolved?

you can see an example on my front page in the featured section. Tessa Shrout spelling be post… thanks!

Hey Brian-

Can you elaborate on how to set the categories in the coding. I’m hoping for one set of constant categories in the heading.

Any help?

IndustrialThemes

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. Do you want a specific set of subcategories in the categories menu? Do you want to specify which categories display there?

Default-user
durbintj Purchased

In the header, I want to designate a set of 4-5 categories that never change. As of now, every time I categorize a post, a new item in the header is created. Make sense?

IndustrialThemes

So you want to designate 4-5 specific categories to display in the header. You can do that by modifying the header.php file and locating line #172. It should look something like this:

<?php wp_list_categories('sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li='); ?>

You will need to modify that line of code to display the specific IDs of the categories you want to display. Follow this example in the Wordpress Codex to do so: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_categories#Include_or_Exclude_Categories

hey brian. with regard to my above question… fyi. looks like if you add back in a form of “excerpt string” (yours is currently set to replace [...] with “blank”), the issue disappears. cool.

IndustrialThemes

Great, I was just going to look into this today…

hi brian! something else i noticed that you might want to look into… currently, if the title of the post contains a word of all caps (e.g., KC, MO, USDA ), the result on both the single page and the thumbnail front page will contain strange code (a repeat of some of the title and ”>” characters) surrounding the post.

by eliminating the abbreviation and spelling it out (e.g. KC to Kansas City, MO to Mo or Missouri), the problem disappears.

i did not have this problem at all with my old theme. if you find the coding that is causing this problem, please let me know. it will save me oodles of time going back and editing all my titles with caps. this is especially yuck because of the “random post” feature, which showcases the yuck on old posts! ha.

i have screen captures of an example that i will email to you, as i’ve fixed it on my most recent post that did it. if you’d like, you can go into my back-end and find an old post to dissect, as i’m certain there are many more i have yet to run across.

thanks! :pink

klosterpink

cool. i’m glad i was able to determine the pattern as i was going thru and fixing the strangeness. for new blogs using the theme, i’m certain it would have taken some time to figure that one out.

just let me know. thanks!

klosterpink

i just noticed more detail of the pattern…

it will look at the title, go to the word entirely in caps, and append the front of the title with code and the remainder of the title after the caps… like so:

Orig title: Downtown Lee’s Summit sports PINK Fountains

New title: PINK Fountains”>Downtown Lee’s Summit sports PINK Fountains

I also noticed that it puts the same code right before the thumbnail/photo.

it will NOT do this on words that contain both CAPS and lowercase (e.g., MODot) hope this helps.

klosterpink

hey brian. finally found the plug-in culprit that conflicts with your theme and messes with the tiles as i described above:

wp-Typography

all better now. thanks!

Hi,

I purchased your theme and can’t get the thumbnails to show. I know others have mentioned the same thing, but I haven’t figured out the solution from their attempts.

In my theme, where the thumbnail should go, I see the link to the post (my first post in the upper right featured section).

Part of this problem may be due to my host, HostGator. I asked them to allow the timthumb script and they submitted this request. However, it is still not working.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

SoMike Purchased

I figured out the above. I was inputting the full http:// address into the thumbnail field rather than starting from “wp-”. This fixed the problem!

IndustrialThemes

Glad you got it working!
